Ephesians 1: 1-10

Paul, by the will of God an apostle of Christ Jesus, to God's holy people, faithful in Christ Jesus. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessed be God
the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us
with all the spiritual blessings of heaven
        in Christ.
Thus he chose us in Christ
    before the world was made
to be holy and faultless
    before him in love,
marking us out for himself beforehand,
    to be adopted sons,
        through Jesus Christ.
Such was his purpose and good pleasure,
to the praise of the glory of his grace,
his free gift to us in the Beloved,
in whom, through his blood,
    we gain our freedom,
        the forgiveness of our sins.

Such is the richness of the grace
which he has showered on us
in all wisdom and insight.
He has let us know
    the mystery of his purpose,
according to his good pleasure
    which he determined beforehand
        in Christ,
for him to act upon
when the times had run their course:
that he would bring everything together
    under Christ, as head,
everything in the heavens
    and everything on earth.

Luke 11: 47-54

'Alas for you because you build tombs for the prophets, the people your ancestors killed! In this way you both witness to what your ancestors did and approve it; they did the killing, you do the building.' And that is why the Wisdom of God said, "I will send them prophets and apostles; some they will slaughter and persecute, so that this generation will have to answer for every prophet's blood that has been shed since the foundation of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the Temple." Yes, I tell you, this generation will have to answer for it all.' Alas for you lawyers who have taken away the key of knowledge! You have not gone in yourselves and have prevented others from going in who wanted to.' When he left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began a furious attack on him and tried to force answers from him on innumerable questions, lying in wait to catch him out in something he might say.

Some people act as if they are
praising Jesus and then kill the message.
A prophet said he used to worry they
would kill his body, but then he said
they were trying to kill his body
                to kill the message.

Men try to kill the prophet to
                kill the message he delivers.

                    Letter to the Ephesians describes
the Church a great deal — especially
the marks of the Church —

                ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC

                Theme of Blood

                    In Christ we have redemption
                in Him — Christ's blood —

For the Jews — blood is a
                symbol of life

                    The prophets were killed and
                persecuted — blood referred to
their death — prophets lived to
preach God's Word from them —
                death to life

When we go to Mass — symbol
of life — eat His Body, drink
                His Blood.

God has chosen us to be holy —

We ask God to help us to grow
as we eat His Body and drink His
                Blood —

So we have greater life in
                Him.

Change is necessary - in the
                cutting back, pruning people
suffer — this change is necessary
to grow, to mature as God desires.

Christ shed His Blood and died — so we
could share in His life —

Jesus obeyed His Father to His death
                on the cross.

                    How do we obey?

How do we serve God the Father —
                God calls —— We respond

                            (1) doing God's will in love
                            (2) no response
                            (3) try to do our will —
                                seeking dominance for ourselves —

Lord You are the fountain of
                        all holiness

Jesus gives us His Body and Blood

                Some can't ever obey —
                    want to have power in
                    some way

                Never just obey willingly —
                    with a pure heart —
for the honor and glory of God

If they do what they were asked they
                    (1) can try to get a favor in
                        return
                    (2) change it - they do
                        their own thing

Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. * Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

                Peace —

                The Shepherds of Christ Mission

                    Obeying God's will

                    Not being disobedient like
                        Eve

                    Peace comes in obedience
                        to God's will

                    Disobedience to God's will
                        brings pain —
                        hardship
                        problems with God

                Obeying God is what matters

                Being people focused — forgetting
God — pleasing people - forgetting
                    God is foolish

Not connected in our heart to God
and His will — brings a bunch
                    of problems

Every act should be done for the
                    honor and glory of God

Seek God above all things - like
                    St. Margaret Mary

Killing the prophet is the devil
                    trying to kill the message.
