Shepherds of Christ:

Help Playing Wav or Midi Files

Generally, a sound board is required to play these .wav or .mid files. The songs sound best if you use a piano instrument, but you are free to try whatever instrument you chose. For users of Microsoft Internet Explorer®, the player is already configured and the songs should play as soon as you hit the start button on the Media Player.

For Netscape Navigator® Users, if you get an Unknown File Type window, the following procedure can be followed: (This was developed with Windows 95®.) You will have to do this twice. Once for the .mid files & once for the .wav files.

1. At the top Netscape Menu Bar, click on Options.
2. Select General Preferences.
3. Click on the Helpers tab.
4. Click on Create New Mime Type button.
5. Fill in the "Configure New Mime Type" form
6. In the file extensions box type: mid, midi or wav
7. Under Action Select: Launch the Application
8. The final step is to select an application to play the midi sound files.
For Windows 95, enter c:\windows\Mplayer.exe
If this file is not installed for Windows 95, you may have to load it from the original CD-ROM.
For other users, you will have to consult your sound board documentation to find the software program which handles midi sound files. Once you know the name and location of the program, you enter it the application field.
9. Click on the OK button.
10. On Netscape Menu Bar, click on Options, then select Save Options. The next time you click on a song from within Netscape, you should get to player program to pop up so that you can hear the songs! Make sure you press the Play Button, >, to make the music start. Also hit the Dismiss Button, X, on the media Player when finished. It does not go away by itself. Enjoy!
If you go through all these steps and it does not work, say a prayer to St. Gabriel, the Patron Saint of Communications Workers. If no inspiration comes, send me an email, and I may be able to help too!
