R. God made human creatures
male and female —
Jesus, the most perfect
man
How is Jesus?
Jesus is God.
Jesus is love.
God loves us and He wanted
so much that we
know about God —
Jesus came to this
earth to teach us —
to communicate to us —
to teach us of His
love and mercy and
forgiveness —
Jesus is meek and tender in
heart —
Meek means not combatal —
not looking for a fight —
competitive - fighting to win —
Jesus is gentle and loving —
God is all powerful —
God is just —
Song: I Am a God of Justice
R. Jesus came to serve —
Jesus came to teach —
Jesus came to teach us about
unity, respect,
order, harmony —
Jesus is the King —
God created us in His image
and likeness
When we don't think we need to
be taught to be more like Jesus
then we cease to be a disciple
of His —
Disciples of Jesus - follow Him —
Disciples of Jesus are eager
to die to their ways
not likened to Jesus and
rise in ways likened to Jesus
Perfect harmony of will —
We see the Perfection of the
Trinity —
Love is courageous —
Love is like the Heart of
Jesus —
Love knows order and authority
and it obeys the will of God —
We see in the Readings of Mass
how Saul disobeyed and
how his disobedience led
to his downfall and hurt
so many souls.
Prayer from St. Ignatius
Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing
that I am doing your will.
Soul of Christ
Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me
Blood of Christ, inebriate me
Water from the side of Christ wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
O good Jesus, hear me
Within Thy wounds hide me
Permit me not to be separated from Thee
From the wicked foe defend me
at the hour of my death call me
and bid me come to Thee
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee
For ever and ever. Amen.
R. The lesson of the Perfect Handmaid
of the Lord —
the Perfect Servant, disciple
of God is Mary who says
"Do whatever He tells you"
Mary lived her life to please
the Father — Mary
crushed the head of satan
satan who said "I will not serve"
Where Eve wanted to be equal
to God, we see her pride and
vain glory, her selfishness,
her obedience to satan
and disobedience to God
who was so good to her —
Mary is the New Eve —
Jesus is the New Adam —
Jesus obeyed the will of
His Father - Perfectly
Mary lived in obedience
to the Father's will —
Yesterday we heard the story of
David and Goliath and David slew Goliath,
the Philistine.
Saul was angry, jealous and envious
of David's popularity. This
jealousy, hatred, evilness was
Saul's ruin —
1 Samuel 18: 6-9; 19: 1-7
On their return, when David was coming back from killing the Philistine, the women came out of all the towns of Israel singing and dancing to meet King Saul, with tambourines, sistrums and cries of joy; and as they danced the women sang:
Saul has killed his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands.Saul was very angry; the incident displeased him. 'They have given David the tens of thousands,' he said, 'but me only the thousands; what more can he have, except the throne?' And Saul watched David jealously from that day onwards.
Saul let his son Jonathan and all his servants know of his intention to kill David. But Jonathan, Saul's son, held David in great affection; and Jonathan warned David, 'My father Saul is looking for a way to kill you, so be on your guard tomorrow morning; go into hiding, stay out of sight. I shall go out and keep my father company in the countryside where you will be, and shall talk to my father about you; I shall see what the situation is and then tell you.'
Jonathan spoke highly of David to Saul his father and said, 'The king should not harm his servant David; far from harming you, what he has done has been greatly to your advantage. He took his life in his hands, he killed the Philistine, and Yahweh brought about a great victory for all Israel. You saw for yourself. How pleased you were! Why then sin against innocent blood by killing David for no reason?' Saul was impressed by Jonathan's words. Saul swore, 'As Yahweh lives, I will not kill him.' Jonathan called David and told him all this. Jonathan then brought him to Saul, and David remained in attendance as before.
R. Saul was so jealousy of David —
Saul wanted to kill David —
Saul told his whole household
and his son Jonathon —
Jonathon loved David and he
told Saul - David is
faithful to you —
Why do you want to
kill David and have his blood
on you
In God I trust I shall not fear.
Psalm 56: 2-3, 9-14
Those who harry me lie in wait for me all day,
countless are those who attack me from the heights. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you,
Then my enemies will turn back
on the day when I call. This I know, that God is on my side.
In God whose word I praise,
in Yahweh whose word I praise,
in God I put my trust and have no fear;
what can mortal man do to me?I am bound by the vows I have made, God,
I will pay you the debt of thanks,
for you have saved my life from death
to walk in the presence of God,
in the light of the living.
Alleluia Verse
Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed
death and brought life to light through
the Gospel.
R. Jesus told me to not fear, He was
there — over and over again
Jesus said "Do not be afraid,
love God and serve God as God
has commanded you"
Mark 3: 7-12
Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lakeside, and great crowds from Galilee followed him. From Judaea, and from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea and Transjordan and the region of Tyre and Sidon, great numbers who had heard of all he was doing came to him. And he asked his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, to keep him from being crushed. For he had cured so many that all who were afflicted in any way were crowding forward to touch him. And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, would fall down before him and shout, 'You are the Son of God!' But he warned them strongly not to make him known.
R. These two readings have a common
theme —
These have the theme of jealousy
and envy —
Saul was jealous of David because
David got so much praise
Saul didn't want David
to threaten the Kingship
of his son —
Jonathan loved David like
a brother —
Saul had tried to kill David,
but somebody talked him
out of it —
several times Saul wanted
David killed —
In the Gospel the devil recognized that
Jesus was the Son of God —
Jesus came to teach, to do
miracles and to cast out demons
but He came to die for us —
He came our Savior —
Jesus rose from the dead —
Jesus came for this!
Fr. Joe says there is a slight difference
between jealousy and envy
Envy is when somebody has something
we would like to have —
Like somebody has a beautiful house
and we are envious —
Jealousy is when we have something
and we are afraid someone
will try to take it away —
Like a jealousy husband
who is afraid someone
will steal his wife —
Dear God help us to recognize
the blessings You gave
us and don't waste time
trying to get what we don't
have —
help us not to rebel against
Your plan, but respect
Your order and recognize
our blessings from You —
It is our duty to give You
thanks God —
to unite with angels and saints
and to pray to be holy —
not be like Eve and Adam —
but be like Mary and Jesus
Help us to be holy —
Dear God I love You so much —
I give myself to You —
Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.
Come unto Me all who are weary
and find rest for your soul.
Come unto Me, all who are burdened,
I will comfort you!
Oh God You give me Yourself —
A Prayer before the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
Let me be a holy sacrifice and unite with God in the sacrament of His greatest love.
I want to be one in Him in this act of love, where He gives Himself to me and I give myself as a sacrifice to Him. Let me be a holy sacrifice as I become one with Him in this my act of greatest love to Him.
Let me unite with Him more, that I may more deeply love Him. May I help make reparation to His adorable Heart and the heart of His Mother, Mary. With greatest love, I offer myself to You and pray that You will accept my sacrifice of greatest love. I give myself to You and unite in Your gift of Yourself to me. Come and possess my soul.
Cleanse me, strengthen me, heal me. Dear Holy Spirit act in the heart of Mary to make me more and more like Jesus.
Father, I offer this my sacrifice, myself united to Jesus in the Holy Spirit to You. Help me to love God more deeply in this act of my greatest love.
Give me the grace to grow in my knowledge, love and service of You and for this to be my greatest participation in the Mass. Give me the greatest graces to love You so deeply in this Mass, You who are so worthy of my love.
-Mass Book, December 27, 1995
R. From Your plan we came, Oh God —
Our parents brought us forth —
They married to give us love
and bring us life —
Oh God my mom and my dad gave me
life and they gave my brothers
and sisters life too —
Our lives were to be as loving
brothers and sisters — not in
competition, but knowing
unity and working as one in
love — to live in peace and
love in our hearts —
To follow Your plan and to be
united in our hearts with
those You called us to work
with —
That our hearts are united more
and more to the Trinity —
That we are united as one —
In the ecstasies I knew profound
oneness — our lives are lived
to work as God wants us to work
together —
To discipline ourselves to use our
free will to choose good and not
evil —
The devil said I will not serve —
God told Fr. Carter He wanted
Servants and Handmaids of the
Good Shepherd —
When we go to meet God - how will
we be judged on how we obeyed
God, obeyed those over us —
loved and served God as Servants
and Handmaids of God —
Mary, the perfect handmaid of the
Lord said —
"Do whatever He tells you"
"Do whatever He tells you"
To live to love and serve God as
He wants —
Saul used his position to try to
kill David because of his
anger at David for his
accomplishments —
Saul didn't care what David
was doing to promote God's
Kingdom —
Saul was envious of David —
He only wanted his glory —
He wasn't King to serve God
because he was willing to
kill David because of his anger,
and jealousy and envy —
Saul was ready to condemn himself
eternally to take out David —
David was pure and selfless —
David did what he did to further
God's Kingdom —
David doing what he was supposed
to do in doing God's will —
angered Saul who wore the
title King —
When God calls us to serve — we care for
God's will —
Not our vain glory —
To use the job to do evil as Saul
was doing was wrong —
His heart became corrupt —
He didn't want God or Samuel
telling him anything —
Saul disobeyed God and when
given a second chance
disobeyed God again —
Then Samuel said —
"You cannot disobey the God
of Israel"
Samuel was told to anoint David —
David was loving, doing
God's will —
Saul didn't even care about anything
but what he looked like —
thoughts of helping God's Kingdom
meant little —
He only saw through jealous eyes —
burning in anger —
for David doing God's will
made Saul not look as good —
His goal was his own vain glory —
Saul thought, David was to serve Saul for
Saul's glory not to do
God's will —
Saul had twisted thinking —
Satan prowls about the world —
like Eve in the garden —
Satan lies —
He appeals to man's pride —
He tempts them to covet power and
control
He presses on them to be
jealous of men doing
God's will —
The devil tempts the man to
use their job against
God's work —
Then not love becomes the way,
but seeking power for
power sake —
A man had a vineyard and wanted to
produce fruit —
He left the vineyard in the
hands of a man - who
tore the vineyard apart
for his anger and jealousy —
David had trouble later with his
son Absalom —
Absalom was evil and he wanted to
rule the Kingdom —
David didn't want all he had
built in Jerusalem
burned down in 3 days because
of Absalom's greedy power seeking
ways —
David loved what he built and he
wanted to preserve it —
Absalom only cared for his power —
he would have watched all
David's work burned to the
ground to get power for
himself —
David was God's anointed —
God was behind David —
When satan comes to attack he wants
to tear apart — satan tempts
people for power and control —
They rebel against the order and can
make an enemy out of those
over them doing God's will —
They use their job for satan's
work —
to tear apart —
to tear down —
A husband and wife can marry for
love — have children
— then
the spirit of tearing apart can enter
one or both parties
The home they were building becomes
a battle ground and can be torn
apart by one who is stubborn
and work selfishly for power
and control —
When they tear apart their own
home they were building first
they lament the tragedy of the
consequences and mourn
and can continue to do this
over and over again with the
blessings and honor God gives —
Wisdom builds a house
We see at the time of Jeremiah
that the King would not obey
Jeremiah —
The King obeyed the false prophet and
we see the devastation in the
Babylonian Exile —
The Jews could return to their own
land and it was torn apart —
Jesus: Satan presses on people to do things
that tear apart — on their own
land, what others have built —
They are tempted by satan to tear
apart because of their anger,
power to control, they don't
even see the job at hand —
they only want their wrong doings
to be accepted as right —
Satan presses on men and women married
with this tearing apart spirit —
R. Hamon was evil and the King of Persia
listened to Esther or more Jews
would have been wiped out
because of Saul's disobedience
long before —
There was consequences as Samuel told
Saul —
You can't disobey the God of Israel —
Saul disobeyed —
Saul used his Kingship for his power and
to avenge David —
Joseph's brothers hated Joseph for
being good —
they wanted to destroy him —
Cain slew Abel for doing what
God wanted
These facts in the Bible are to
teach us about the deadly sins of
our fallen human nature
jealousy, seeking dominance
for dominance sake, envy,
slothfulness - anger etc.
—
When we hold out and punish others
it is passive-aggressive —
shunning to control to do our way —
to force our rules —
The person rooted in God - is serving God,
not their own selfishness —
arm-wrestling for power and control —
Jesus: Rise up Jerusalem, your time has come
—
A man after My own Heart is a man
that lives to serve God —
That sees I died obeying My Father —
A man acting in anger and jealousy against a
plan built by God is like a
man throwing ice balls at God —
God made the ice and the man —
the consequences of trying to tear
apart and destroy what God has
built, be it a marriage or a
community, a country, a church,
The angry man cannot see clearly — his
blindness from his sin and angry
energy leads him to attack
whether rising above authority passively or
attacking head on — It is the sword front
or
back that invisibly pierced My Mother's heart —
While they put the lance in My Heart —
rising up over authority to serve
satan and not God —
Love is giving, like I gave on the cross —
And the jealous man comes and pierces
My Heart after all I did —
attacking for vain glory, power and control —
I paid for your sins with My Blood.
R. We see Peter when He tried to
walk on the water —
When he focused on Jesus
he can walk on the
water —
When he doubted Peter started
to fall in —
Jesus says
"Why are you afraid, oh
men of little faith?"
R. We see the Apostles afraid in
the boat with Jesus when
a storm comes up —
Jesus was sleeping tired from
the work of ministry —
They wake Jesus and tell Him
they are drowning —
With a command, Jesus quiets
the storm —
Jesus: Why are you afraid, you of little
faith?
R. When we are weak, when we
recognize our weakness
we are strong in Him
God has all the power —
1 Corinthians 15:20-28
In fact, however, Christ has been raised from the dead, as the first-fruits of all who have fallen asleep. As it was by one man that death came, so through one man has come the resurrection of the dead. Just as all die in Adam, so in Christ all will be brought to life; but all of them in their proper order: Christ the first-fruits, and next, at his coming, those who belong to him. After that will come the end, when he will hand over the kingdom to God the Father, having abolished every principality, every ruling force and power. For he is to be king until he has made his enemies his footstool, and the last of the enemies to be done away with is death, for he has put all things under his feet. But when it is said everything is subjected, this obviously cannot include the One who subjected everything to him. When everything has been subjected to him, then the Son himself will be subjected to the One who has subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.
R. Jesus came a little tiny baby
So little —
Born in poverty —
Out of love - He took flesh

Guiding Light homily series - Reflect on the Word - Cycle B The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $15 |
|
Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15 | ||
|
Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15 |
Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15 |
|
Guiding Light - The Word Alive in Our Hearts. - Cycle A (partial) Homilies by the Reverend Joe Robinson given at St. Boniface Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is a tremendous honor Fr. Joe has allowed us to share these great gifts with you – for greater holiness and knowing more and more about God. $10 |
