Isaiah 55: 1-11

Final invitation

Oh, come to the water
    all you who are thirsty;
though you have no money, come!
Buy and eat; come, buy wine and milk
without money, free!
Why spend money on what cannot nourish
and your wages on what fails to satisfy?
Listen carefully to me,
and you will have good things to eat
and rich food to enjoy.
Pay attention, come to me;
listen, and you will live.

I shall make an everlasting covenant
    with you
in fulfilment of the favours
    promised to David.
Look, I have made him a witness
    to peoples,
a leader and lawgiver to peoples.
Look, you will summon a nation

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ
is a child of God,
and whoever loves the father
loves the son.
In this way we know
    that we love God's children,
when we love God
    and keep his commandments.
This is what the love of God is:
keeping his commandments.
Nor are his commandments
    burdensome,
because every child of God
overcomes the world.
And this is the victory
    that has overcome the world -
our faith.

The source of faith

Who can overcome the world
but the one who believes
    that Jesus is the Son of God?
He it is who came by water and blood,
Jesus Christ,
not with water alone
but with water and blood,
and it is the Spirit that bears witness,
for the Spirit is Truth.
So there are three witnesses,
the Spirit, water and blood;
and the three of them coincide.
If we accept
     the testimony of human witnesses,
God’s testimony is greater,
for this is God’s testimony
which he gave about his Son.

In the course of his preaching he said, ‘After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, and I am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals. I have baptised you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’

It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John. And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, like a dove, descending on him. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.’

INTRODUCTION – (Isaiah 55:1-11; 1 John 5:1-9; Mark 1:7-11) Many kings, prophets, and holy people served God in Old Testament times, but in four places in the book of the prophet Isaiah, God speaks of someone with whom he is especially pleased. This servant is not identified by name, and because the passages are in poetic form, they are usually referred to as the servant songs. They were written about 500 years before Christ. Perhaps the passages refer to someone who was alive at the time of the prophet but, amazingly, although they were written 500 years before the time of Christ, they describe Jesus so perfectly. At Jesus’ baptism, the voice of God is heard, introducing Jesus to the world, as not only his servant, but as his beloved Son.

HOMILY – Today we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of our Lord. Even though it is an event that took place roughly 30 years after Jesus’ birth and the coming of the Magi, it is a feast that fits with the theme of Epiphany. Epiphany means to cause something to be seen, to show, to illuminate or manifest. In last week’s feast God revealed his son to the world as represented by the magi. God again reveals his son at the baptism by John the Baptist with his declaration from heaven: “You are my beloved son; with you I am well pleased.” So, if you think we are a little slow about removing our Christmas decorations, they are still appropriate to the season. On Monday, Ordinary time begins. It is then that the Christmas/Epiphany season is over. Since they are still so beautiful, we may keep a few poinsettia’s around for another week or so. John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. It’s hard for us to understand why Jesus, the sinless one, God’s Son, came to John for a baptism of repentance. Even John the Baptist had difficulty understanding why Jesus came to him for baptism. As John said “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?” Because it is difficult to understand, various explanations have been offered as to why Jesus was baptized.

    1) Some of the early Church Fathers said Jesus went into the water of the Jordan, not in order to be made holy, but to make the water holy so that all the waters of the world would become life giving through the sacrament of baptism.

    2) It crossed my mind that another possible reason Jesus went to be baptized was to show us what his baptism would do, that his baptism would bring the Spirit down upon us and we would become God’s beloved children.

    3) Inauguration is on everyone’s mind these days. Perhaps we can see Jesus’ baptism as his official inauguration as he began the work the Father had given him. He was ready to proclaim the gospel, the good news, that for those who turned their hearts to God, God’s Kingdom was there for them. The Father and the Spirit put their approval on him and would guide him in this ministry to the world.

    4) The last possible explanation I have is perhaps Jesus went to be baptized as an example to us that we are to be baptized in order to become God’s sons and daughters. Right before Jesus ascended into heaven he sent his apostles to continue his work (and that by the way is what the word “apostle” means: one who has been sent). He told them: “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” If these were his last words, as St. Matthew tells us, baptism must be really important to our Lord. Most of us do not remember our baptism. We don’t remember most of the things that happened to us in our earliest year. Yet those are the things that gave direction to our lives: how we were to treat others, what kinds of food we were to eat, how to care for ourselves, how to act in public, how we were to be educated. In taking us for baptism our parents were setting a direction for us, setting us on the path to holiness through faith in Jesus Christ. Sometimes parents take their child for baptism because they think they should, but they fail to see the life of Christ that baptism gives has to be nourished and to have opportunity to grow. You might have heard the story about the family who took their second child to church for baptism and after the baptism the older child who was three years old sobbed all the way back home.

    His father asked what was wrong. He said, “the priest said he wanted us to be brought up in a Christian home and I want to stay with you guys.” Baptism gives Christ’s life, a life that needs to be nurtured and given the opportunity to grow just like the baby’s physical life does. Some more fundamental religions say let the child grow up and get baptized when they’re older so they can make their own choice as to what religion they want to belong to. Parents don’t do that with anything else that’s important. They don’t say we won’t send you to school and when you’re old enough you can decide what you need to learn; or we’ll let you eat whatever you want until you’re old enough to decided for yourself. Baptism gives God’s life and sets the direction for that life. The child, when he or she is grown, will have to make his or her own choice as to if and how much he or she will be faithful to Christ. When they see their children begin to drift away, that’s when a lot of parents do some heavy praying. If this happens, don’t give up hope for them and don’t stop praying. I feel as if my thoughts have drifted in various directions and I know much more could be said about baptism. I just want to leave you with one thought. Even though most of us may not remember our baptism, we should thank God, for in it he gave us life and the Spirit and he gave us a loving parent or parents to guide us in the ways of God.

                R. Sometimes God gives us a cross to bear that
                we cannot understand. A cross can be in being
                in a bind with someone who has power in
                a situation and yet we cannot move things to
                free ourselves and our job, livelihood,
                others involved in the situation are dependent
                on us enduring what we must to continue
                doing God's will. We can ask ourselves if it
                is a cross God has allowed us to endure or
                is satan trying to stop what God is asking
                us to do. Satan, indeed, presses down and
                tries to make confusion, defiance from others
                who try to force us in a situation, but God
                allows us to endure suffering in living out
                the pascal mystery of death/resurrection.

                    Life indeed is a mystery and God helps
                us to find the road map He intends us
                to follow. Some days are cold, like now,
                so cold, some days are icy and can
                be a threat to just get in the car to go
                to work, some days are storming, windy
                and some days are beautiful and sunny.
                But the weather doesn't determine everything,
                as unpredictable as the weather can be,
                so is diseases, sufferings we have to
                endure that are unexpected.

                    Life is a mystery and we cannot
                control events, the weather, other people –
                we live every day, the best we can, and there
                are crosses, the evil one, other people
                etc. that can test us on our way.

                    It is certainly true that God is teaching
                us in our lives and we can learn from
                suffering, that suffering can lead to greater
                life.

                    I am not a theologian and haven't been
                trained in the school of theology, except
                from God. God has given me
                messages and these writings, infused
                knowledge, visions and gifts He has asked
                me to write about.

                    After seeing the Virgin Mary for 20 years,
                I can honestly say that a lot of the
                writings were not in the insights from
                seeing things as from mystical locutions
                or experiences where God allowed me to
                just know something so deeply etched in
                my soul –

A Prayer for Intimacy with the Lamb, the Bridegroom of the Soul

Oh Lamb of God, Who take away the sins of the world, come and act on my soul most intimately. I surrender myself, as I ask for the grace to let go, to just be as I exist in You and You act most intimately on my soul. You are the Initiator. I am the soul waiting Your favors as You act in me. I love You. I adore You. I worship You. Come and possess my soul with Your Divine Grace, as I experience You most intimately.

Prayer for Union with Jesus

Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.

    I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.

    I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.

    When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.

                R. But God allows us to endure crosses that
                do lead us to greater life in Him.
                God allows people in our lives that can
                make so much suffering, but seem to
                control, to block what God is showing
                us is a path He wants us to build on.
                And the question is – is satan working
                in it to block God's plan –
                or is God allowing us to suffer the disobedience
                or stubbornness of others to help us
                define what is His will, what is pure,
                what He wants by allowing us to suffer
                disharmony and disobedience of others –
                if the disharmony was removed we could
                experience the unity of men doing God's
                will and living in love and harmony
                and peace as God wants of us.

                    We can pray for God to help change
                a situation, but in His permissive will,
                because of men's free wills, God
                doesn't change a man's free will – and God
                in His permissive will may allow suffering.

God gives us a free will –

God gives grace. We can ask
Him and He can help us –

                    We can choose the evil and
                try to force others to live under
                our unruly, disharmonious, willful
                ways.

                I look at the warning of Our Lady of Fatima
                    and I look at World War II when men did
                    not obey her warning.

                    Why would Jesus come to this earth and
                do all He did, our Savior, and not try
                to send Mary as a messenger at Fatima
                to warn the events of World War II with its
                devastation and loss of almost 66,000,000
                lives that were lost.

21 years ago in Blue Book II –

Sufferings Will Befall You

January 19, 1994 4:45 a.m.

Jesus: I write a message for the world. I write this message for you. I want to tell them to pray and not to underestimate what sufferings will befall them all. Pray constantly. You suffer this weather, you see the earthquakes and you still do not comprehend a power greater than yourself. I have all the power. I want men's minds and hearts to turn back to God. I want God first in their lives, but they are so blind. What do they need to shake them to such great power!

All things are under My control. There is not one thing that happens that I do not allow. You are so comfortable in such evilness. Why are you not on your knees asking, "Lord what is happening?" One suffering will come after another and you will, in your blindness, have to admit to My Might. My mother comes and people pay no heed. Spread these messages. Spread her messages. Do not think of what others think of you. They will know soon enough of their blindness. Do not spend a day without telling someone news about the Blessed Mother and why she comes. Tell all of My might and tell them to pray. Prayer is your weapon in a sick world. Open up the minds of your friends. What will rock these children off their rockers? If the earth moves under them, they still stay steadfast in their ways. So stubborn, indeed. They want to be blind because they do not want to change to the ways of God!

I am He Who comes to you this way. I am He Who wants you to pray constantly. I am He Who is calling out an alert for a change in your lives. I am He Who wants you to pray, yet you sit. You idle and hold on to such trivial things while the earth moves under your feet! I will rock the heavens. I will tell you of My might. Sit, you idle ones, but you will suffer for not praying. I am God. I am Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, and I am ever present in your midst. You are blind and look for idle pursuits.

You have become so comfortable in this evilness that you do not even sit up and take notice. "Oh, it is okay. I don't like it, but it is okay." Your children are being poisoned by the world, as if someone gives them constant poison, and you worry about your sports and what have you!

Where in the world do you think you are going? Man thinks he is here to stay. He spends his days making his life "better" he thinks: more things--more things, more money, better bodies, clean breath, better smelling feet--oh, such insane pursuits! Let's make these bodies so perfect! Our lives should reflect the perfect life! Our children run races for glory every day, not even knowing the Ten Commandments! You make every moment a pleasure in itself. Make yourselves happy. Eat, drink, be merry, be beautiful, be smart, be perfect. Forget God--who is He? We have a life going on here and we are going to enjoy every moment! This society is sick, sick, sick. What they are enjoying is destroying their souls. Children are not even aware that I exist and their lives are totally secular. They are so blind. Oh, America, I lament everything you do. It is senseless and without meaning!

The Son of Man is in your midst and you do not even know who He is. What more can I say. Spread My good news that Jesus is Lord and He is Coming, that you had better turn your lives back to Him now. Mary, My mother, is coming. The sun spins. What do they need? Such attachments to their sick ways! Pray constantly. Tell others about Me. Tell them to read the Bible and amend their ways. Tell them that I am God and that they need to turn their lives back to Me. Tell them to repent and pray. My mercy is great and I am waiting with open arms.

Pray, America, pray. You will soon know My might if you continue your foolish ways. Every soul who is fixed in Me is My messenger. Go to the highways and byways and tell all: Jesus is Lord and He wants you to amend your lives. He will rock the earth and you will know His might. Time is short. Repent and pray constantly. What do I do to shake you? This earth is very insecure, here today, gone tomorrow. The only things that remain are the things of God.

I am Jesus, Son of the Living God. Hear Me, America. Listen and be attentive! I do not come to give a message for one or two. This is My message for all. You will know My might in big proportions. I will rock you off your rockers. You must turn your lives to God. You are not here for fun and sin and whatever you are doing. Oh, little ones, you miss My tremendous love for you. You have missed all the good I have for you. You are stubborn and willful. You are silly and sick. Pray for your brothers. Pray, pray, pray, pray, pray, pray. Offer everything you do as a prayer and know I never ever leave you! I love you, My child. This message is an act of love!

I gave Myself that you might live. I am He Who comes to deliver this message to you and you are blind. Look beyond the cup and the drink. This is your miracle, that I am truly present in the Eucharist.

I am here. Open your eyes and see Me here in your midst. Come to Me all who labor and are heavily burdened and I will give you rest. I am your God and I comfort you on your way. I am waiting for you to come and be in union with Me.

You, My faithful ones, can no longer be silent. Don't worry. Speak out. Others need you!

                such an experience as God revealed to me
                He was really talking and I cried because
                I hadn't done more.

                    After I left the Church and had the
                experience Jesus gave me of the awareness
                of this message – people ignored me
                and I really couldn't have done more –

                    It reminds me of Moses and Pharaoh –
                Moses warned and warned, but the
                obstinacy of Pharaoh was so obstinate
                he wouldn't listen.

                    When Mary appeared on the building

                I thought people would listen –

On March 1, 2004 Mary's image
head was destroyed in Clearwater.

All these occurred in March –

God has allowed saints to suffer stigmata's –

Jesus was put to death and suffered –

St. Paul had persecuted the Christians –

                God in His permissive will allows good men
                    to suffer at the hands of men who
                    disobey and use their position in
                    ways that tear at other's lives –

                World War II is something to study – how Mary
                    warned at Fatima and the devastation
                    of that war is beyond anything we
                    could even imagine would happen –

God the Father: My plan will unfold despite the willfulness of any of My children. I am the Father. I have guided you in all of your activities.

    I am telling you that the members of the Shepherds of Christ must be made aware of the importance of living the Blue Book messages.

    Planning is up to Me. This is My plan and it will unfold. Men plan for the future. I AM.

    I am directing the Shepherds of Christ Movement through these messages.

    I am angered at the lack of response on the part of some to back these messages. You must support these messages so they are lived by man.

    These messages are given from the Hearts of Jesus and Mary to bring about the reign of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the triumph of My beloved Mary's Immaculate Heart.

    You are given all you need. You must adhere to My plan.

    I am the Father. I AM WHO AM. I was in the beginning, I am now and I will be forever.

    I am telling you to obey the directions given by Jesus in these messages.

    My plan will unfold. The completion of the Fatima message will greatly come through the Shepherds of Christ Movement.

    You must circulate the tape, Mary's Message. You must circulate the messages given to you in God's Blue Books and Rosaries from the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

    The renewal in the Church will greatly come through the newsletter and the books published with the imprimatur. You must publish all books on the Mass with the imprimatur. Prayer chapters must be started in the churches.

    The instructions for the priests will come from doing as I have requested. I beg you to circulate the Priestly Newsletter Book to the priests as soon as possible. The priests must be made aware of the Mass Books.

    The Children's Rosary Book must be published immediately. Your work, Fr. Carter and Rita, is to publish this material.

    Heaven has contacted the earth primarily in these messages to bring about the reign of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the triumph of Mary's Immaculate Heart.

    The plan will unfold. It is My plan. You must be obedient to the directions I give to you here. The Movement is a great star of light to this world. From the Movement the earth will be covered with stars of light and the earth will be lighted through your efforts, Fr. Carter.

    I will give you all you need. The plan will unfold. It is My plan to turn sinful men into obedient, loving children.

    I have delivered this message that you will know My plan is unfolding. Many will be lost because of their willfulness. I demand obedience to My requests. The plan will unfold. It pleases Me greatly that you obey My messenger. She is delivering these messages to you from the Son, My beloved Son, God-made-Man.

    The messages of the love of God will be written on the hearts of men through the writings of Fr. Carter and Rita to bring about the reign of His Most Sacred Heart.

    I am displeased with those who have blocked these messages. Anyone continuing to block My messages given through the Hearts of Jesus and Mary will receive a shock that will envelope them.

    The time is very urgent. The time has run out for sinful man. I am angered at the way the world has treated their Mother. Willful children must be punished. I demand obedience. Mary gave to her children her peace plan and she was ignored by the Church and her children. Mary is Mother of the Church and Mother of her children. Willful children must be admonished. Children must obey their Mother.

    Mary appeared on the building in Florida as Mother of all. You have made money your god. You have ignored God and made this world your end.

    I am God. I AM WHO AM, without a beginning, without an end. I am today, tomorrow and always. You do not comprehend My ways with your feeble minds. You must obey the messages given by My Son and His Mother. These messages I give to you as a gift and a great revelation from heaven. You must be thankful and cherish this gift given. I will not remove My gift to you for I know you will obey Me. I will admonish you when you do not respond as you should.

    I have called you and anointed you, My holy priest (Fr. Carter), to lead this world to the light. The Light of the world is My Son, Jesus. His Heart will reign and the heart of your Mother will triumph. I beg you to surrender and obey and watch My plan unfold. There will be a great era of peace very soon, My little children. All you do today will help to save many souls. Many souls will know the love of God through the Shepherds of Christ Movement. Many souls will love God with burning love.

    I give you this gift. Your writings, Fr. Carter, and the writings of My messenger, Rita, will help greatly to bring about the reign of the Sacred Heart.

    I am the Father. I am the Almighty God. You must believe I have chosen you. I have called each member here this day to hear this message. I have called you to be the apostles of the new era of peace. I have called you by name. You will lead men to the Heart of My Son. You must listen and focus all of your attention to this mission I have given to you.

    I am the Father. From the day you were conceived, I formed you in your mother's womb, knowing the great mission I would call you to today. My children, My children, do not be distracted by the evil one to lead you astray. I am counting on you, My beloved shepherds. You must not be led astray by doing other good works. I have called you, this is My plan, it is unfolding. You are a major part of the success of this plan for the renewal of the Church and the world.

    Your work in the Shepherds of Christ Movement greatly pleases Me.

    I AM, WHO AM. I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the Almighty God. You must be obedient children. It is through your obedience that the consecration will spread to many souls on the earth.

    It is through your obedience to help spread the priestly newsletter and start prayer chapters in churches that many priests will love God with the greatest love in the Mass. I am asking you to spread the Mass Book to priests and sisters. Please pray for the priestly newsletter, the quick spread of the material given in the newsletter and for the priests reading the newsletter.

    Heaven has contacted the earth. The light will shine in the dark corners of the world. Men will respond to the Shepherds of Christ Movement. You must not be afraid. You must do as I have asked you.

    I have called you by name, My chosen ones, from the beginning I formed you and I gave to you the talents needed to accomplish this mission on the earth.

    Your talents are gifts from Me to be used for this purpose. You are the Shepherds of Christ. You are the apostles of the new era.

    There will be a new earth, there will be love on this earth as I intend it to be. My children will love one another, you will walk hand in hand, loving God and one another in harmony and peace.

In the beginning was the Word:
the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through Him all things came into being,

life that was the light of men;

A man came, sent by God.

to bear witness to the light,

John witness to him. He proclaims:

one gift replacing another,
for the Law was given through Moses,
grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God;
it is the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart,
who has made him known.

R. We do not even see Our Father as so important to us.

    A little child is always aware of their father. A little child knows how dependent he is on his father, always wanting to please his father.

    A little child is always aware of his mother and obeying her. A little child loves his mother. Look at how unloving we are to Mary.

    We are children of God, with God the Father as Our Father and Mary as our heavenly Mother.
