Genesis Chapter 3

 The Fall

   Now, the snake was the most subtle of all the wild animals that Yahweh God had made. It asked the woman, ‘Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?’ The woman answered the snake, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden. But of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden God said, "You must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain of death." ’ Then the snake said to the woman, ‘No! You will not die! God knows in fact that the day you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good from evil.’ The woman saw that the tree was good to eat and pleasing to the eye, and that it was enticing for the wisdom that it could give. So she took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realised that they were naked. So they sewed fig–leaves together to make themselves loin–cloths.

   The man and his wife heard the sound of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from Yahweh God among the trees of the garden. But Yahweh God called to the man. ‘Where are you?’ he asked. ‘I heard the sound of you in the garden,’ he replied. ‘I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.’ ‘Who told you that you were naked?’ he asked. ‘Have you been eating from the tree I forbade you to eat?’ The man replied, ‘It was the woman you put with me; she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.’ Then Yahweh God said to the woman, ‘Why did you do that?’ The woman replied, ‘The snake tempted me and I ate.’

   Then Yahweh God said to the snake, ‘Because you have done this,

    Accursed be you of
    all animals wild and tame!
    On your belly you will go
    and on dust you will feed
    as long as you live.
    I shall put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and hers;
    it will bruise your head
    and you will strike its heel.’

     To the woman he said:

     I shall give you intense pain
        in childbearing,
     you will give birth to your children
        in pain.
     Your yearning will be for your husband,
      and he will dominate you.

   To the man he said, ‘Because you listened to the voice of your wife and ate from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat,

     Accursed be the soil because of you!
     Painfully will you get your food from it
     as long as you live.
   It will yield you brambles and thistles,
     as you eat the produce of the land.
   By the sweat of your face
     will you earn your food,
     until you return to the ground,
     as you were taken from it.
     For dust you are
     and to dust you shall return.’

   The man named his wife ‘Eve’ because she was the mother of all those who live. Yahweh God made tunics of skins for the man and his wife and clothed them. Then Yahweh God said, ‘Now that the man has become like one of us in knowing good from evil, he must not be allowed to reach out his hand and pick from the tree of life too, and eat and live for ever!’ So Yahweh God expelled him from the garden of Eden, to till the soil from which he had been taken. He banished the man, and in front of the garden of Eden he posted the great winged creatures and the fiery flashing sword, to guard the way to the tree of life.

   

Messenger:     When we go into a room — a lot goes on — we may
                            put ourselves in a place as where are we —
                            are we above you, are you under us, who
                            is in charge?

                        A family that is dysfunctional is very aware of the
                            unspoken structure — who is the head, who
                            is under, whose ideas are accepted,
                            who is the scapegoat, who should not
                            have any ideas and should not speak —

                        Before the person even speaks, there are very
                            predefined rules. Who is accepted, who
                            is to be made fun of even laughed at —
                            no matter how good the "under-dog"
                            is they cannot rise up in such a
                            structure for it is dysfunctional and
                            the people leading the group of people
                            want everyone doing their dances
                            properly (as they see it) one dances
                            like a leader in a dysfunctional
                            family, one is the hero, another the
                            scapegoat, in an alcoholic family
                            there is the alcoholic, the enabler
                            and every one dances around their
                            steps — important needs are not
                            met because the people in
                            charge focus on themselves much
                            of the time.
  
   

Jesus speaks:  I call you to oneness like this.

                        I call you to be one happy family.

He Remains with Us, Truly Present

    God sees us as one family, His beloved creatures. He loves us each with the deepest personal love. He sees us united. It is our love for one another that pleases Him. There is not division in God. He loves each of us and knows our uniqueness. He loves all of us as His creatures. We are all members of His holy family. He wants all His children to inherit the Kingdom of God.
 
   I find refuge by dwelling within His most precious Heart. I feel the inner glow, the heat. I feel the calm beating of His heart. It is there I am wrapped in His burning love. It is there I am united deeply to my most beloved Father. It is there I am joined with the permeating, moving action of the Holy Spirit.

    It is my refuge, in this dark and troubled world. It is my heaven on earth, to be joined in love with all He has created, to have perfect peace and know God's chamber of peace and love.

    I see the darkness, the vileness of this world, and I go to His Heart. I see, with rose-colored glasses. I see as He wants us to see with eyes of love. I want to love and see as He sees. It is in this deepest chamber of His Heart that I have found the Kingdom of God on earth, for He has said, the Kingdom of God is within you. The Kingdom of God, our little heaven on earth, is in dwelling deeply within Their Hearts. In His Heart is love and in His Heart is peace, in His Heart we are all one as He intends us to be. "But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, 'Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?' And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." (Matt: 12:48-50)1 We draw in our beloved sisters and brothers by the love that radiates from our eyes, our gentle touch, our loving concern.

    Strip yourself of the attachments to this world. Find peace in the freedom of living according to His will, living *In Him, *in this magnificent Heart.

    He came, He walked the earth, for love of us. He took on a human body. He gave His adorable Heart that we could live *In Him. He no longer walks this earth, He gives us Himself in the Holy Eucharist. He gives us a human *heart, pierced with a lance, crowned with thorns and holding the cross. The way to this fiery furnace, the way to life in Him, is through much suffering and pain. We identify with Him in all our actions, all our joys and sufferings, united to Him as we live our lives in Him. We walk the Passion, we feel the joys, the deep love in His Heart for His Mother, for all His beloved creatures. We carry out His life in our life.

    I am Yours, my Lord. I love You with my whole heart, my whole soul, my whole being. I have found the Kingdom of God on this earth. I have found life in You. When I see the darkness in this troubled world, I go to the deepest, hottest chamber of Your Heart and I am bathed in your abundant love. I take with me my troubled brothers in my heart and I plead for their return to their God who is all worthy of all honor and love and adoration.

    I am Yours, Lord, I consecrate my heart to You to live forever in this holy place. I want to die to all that is not of You, that I can be united in the deepest way to You, that my heart will know Your love, that as I live in this world I can truly say, "It is no longer I who live, but He who lives in me."

    O, Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I give You my all. I come to You surrounded by the pure and loving heart of Your Mother. I know You won't refuse me in my wretchedness when I come to You in the heart of Your beloved Mother.

    The Holy Spirit permeates the very depth of my soul and I enter into the deepest chamber of His fiery Heart. It is there I feel so little, as a little child, and I unite to my most beloved Father. I feel in Your fiery heart the presence of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in the deepest, whitest chamber, in the center of the deepest love. I unite with God and I know my dwelling in You is truly a little heaven on earth.

    The Kingdom of God is at hand. There will be an era of peace. We will all be one in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. We will be one happy family where there will only be love: love of God and love of one another.

    And the city shone with the brightest light for within their hearts they knew the love of God and it radiated into the world. There was no longer darkness that covered the earth, but light, radiating from those dwelling within the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. And the star shone over His bed at Bethlehem. He is truly the light of the world and the light shone in the darkness and all who came to this light lived in the light and lived according to the light.

    It is in this that we trust, that in all the darkness of the world that the light will shine when men are dwelling in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

    And, He says: I am the way, the truth and the life. He who abides in me will have the light of life. He came, He was born a baby, He died on a cross, but as He hung on that cross on Calvary, He was the light that shone as the brightest light to the world, withered, beaten and bloodied. He was the brightest light in the darkened sky. It was through His death all men were promised a chance for real life, for eternal salvation.

    And the light came forth from the tomb in power and glory, adorned in bright, glistening light. He stood before them with His glorified wounds: His pierced Heart of endless love and He gave them the newness of life-life in Him. The light shone in the darkness. He gave them a sharing in His Divine Life through Baptism and ascended into heaven to prepare a place for us, but He remained with us, truly present, in His Eucharistic Heart. He feeds us with His own Body and Blood. He gives us the Bread of Life. He is the Savior of the World and we live in newness of life because God first loved us!

Jesus speaks:  In communities there can be dysfunctional
                            structure — before a person gets
                            on the phone it can be understood
                            where they are in the community.

                        All in religious communities should work
                            for the honor and glory of God.

                        Parishes, families should be
                            examples of the Holy Family.

                        There is structure, but the
                            family works to promote the
                            honor and glory of God, employing
                            their God-given talents living
                            according to God's will.

                        I have set up My Movement that
                            you would operate effectively
                            as one family — living as one —
                            operating and one to help
                            promote oneness in the world.

                        Dysfunctional behavior patterns stop
                            the oneness of the community
                            if leaders enforce them.

                        Carol was in charge of a house

                            in the community. She was controlling

                            and herself, did not like to mix —

                            she didn't want to follow directions

                            of those over her — she wanted to

                            make her own rules and do things

                            the way she wanted.

                        She was in charge of one segment

                            and a house in the community —

                            whenever she was asked to do

                            something by those over her, she

                            got control by trying to emotionally

                            control the situation, she was

                            tired, she didn't have the

                            materials, they couldn't do it

                            in the time allotted etc.

                        Put Carols part in the community mixed

                            with all the other "leaders" with

                            similar controlling attitudes and

                            not much would be accomplished by that

                            community. All the time would be spent

                            in working with the dysfunctional people

                            and since they were not working on

                            changing, no real improvement was expected.

                        In alcoholic families they are dysfunctional

                            but they function, they may think they are

                            normal, but in effect they just don't

                            even know what normal is, what

                            they think is normal is in-effect

                            very abnormal.

                        They try to get those around them

                            to live in these abnormal patterns.

                        Some people have a life-time of

                            bitterness stored up in side. Then

                            they project their bitterness on new

                            partners in similar ways they have

                            in the past or watched their parents do it.

                        Some people who lived alone do not even realize

                            their dysfunctional ideas until they are asked to

                            live with others.

                        Some people are so caught up in their problems

                            working with others they cannot really

                            effectively focus on problems to promote

                            God's honor and glory.

                        The devil wants this, he wants people

                            being crippled, bound-up like

                            tied with a rope.

                            Satan can blind people into
                                thinking that unusual amounts of time
                                spent between people working on
                                personal problems can be good for
                                the community.

                            Really, the people weren't
                                working on community
                                problems they were
                                hardly ever even seeing the
                                problems of the community.

                        Kara and Joan sat next to each other in
                            a mailing. Joan was a strong willed
                            person, feeling very superior about
                            herself. Kara was working for the
                            good of the community. The whole
                            time the work was going on Joan
                            spent in trying to establish her
                            superiority.

                            When she left very little focus
                                was really spent on the mailing,
                                Joan was the focus.

                            Later it was seen that the books
                                put in the mailing were
                                completely the wrong material,
                                but since all the person
                                saw was themselves and
                                their self-promotion and
                                the opportunity they were
                                "like"-"blinded" to anything
                                but themselves and where
                                they were with the others
                                (their level of importance)

                        Have you been there?

                        Where a person only focuses on themselves?

                        Please help Me do this work.

                        Satan can tie the person up in emotional
                            ropes that they are more binding
                            than real - ropes.

                        What rules are unspoken, but so vividly
                            observed and cause enormous problems?

                        In dysfunctional families, businesses etc.

                            people can operate dysfunctionally

                            with out progress of operating

                            in ways that promote healthy

                            union in which the focus is the

                            work at hand. Some businesses

                            will hire and fire people as others are

                            brought in and forced to follow

                            aggressive, controlling even

                            abusive patterns of behavior

                            to remain. In today's culture

                            some provisions are offered

                            for abuse.

                        But dysfunctional families are dealing

                            with babies, children who

                            are forced to obey many unspoken rules

                            and sworn to secrecy. These rules can

                            be enforced through force or other

                            means. Many rules are unspoken.

                        Many children who go home for Christmas

                            experience tremendous trauma

                            before knowing they will be put

                            back in that inferior position of

                            the family scapegoat. If they

                            were a president of a company

                            they would have trouble rising

                            above the unspoken structure

                            of who is the hero — on down

                            to them.

                        Years and years of dysfunction of how

                            to relate and handle problems

                            is taught to babies and passed down

                            generation after generation. Sometimes,

                            and very often, children of alcoholics

                            marry other children of alcoholics

                            so they can carry on the dysfunctional

                            patterns. They both understand these

                            dysfunctional patterns and that is how 

                            they behave. 

                        A person growing up in a "normal" family

                            won't stay around often times when

                            the one who grew up in an alcoholic

                            family tries to establish some of

                            these "bizarre" behavior patterns.

                        So children of alcoholics may very

                            often marry children of alcoholics —

                            they think the same, they act with

                            similar behavior patterns.

                        People that work honestly with others,

                            recognizing their own faults rather

                            then blaming others have a greater

                            chance of growing in greater

                            perfection.

                        The Persons of the Trinity are One.

                        They are Perfect.

                        People in marriages are to strive for 

                            oneness.

                        Two people get married. If they are to

                            grow in love, they help each other

                            through the imperfections.

                        I tried to work this way in the Movement,

                            establishing a security for people

                            who have had a fear of abandonment,

                            but what happens is some use

                            emotional ways to get control

                            and do not want to change or

                            work on themselves and the

                            priest advised me, they, if they

                            remain, will hurt the community.

                        Adam and Eve and their imperfections —

                        The New Adam, the New Eve ——

                        God says love one another — we get

                            out of these imperfect

                            patterns from childhood when

                            we relate with others in honest

                            loving ways to be more perfected.

                        Our Heavenly Father is perfect.

Matthew 5:48

...You must therefore be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.’

                            do so to get love —

Chapter 8 

...Many persons who choose marriage say they do so out of a desire to be loved. Notice, they say that they marry out of a desire to be loved, not to love. In fairness to these persons, perhaps we should presume that they realize they in turn must also offer love. Yet, is it not revealing that they explicitly mention as the reason for marrying a desire to be loved? Could there be a close correlation between this phenomenon and the extraordinarily high divorce rate that prevails in our culture? If it is common that both partners enter marriage more from a need to receive love than from a desire to give it, do we have to look further for the reason to explain why so many marriages are plagued with various degrees of unhappiness?...

The Christian Encounters Others and the World
 

In various ways, we have already discussed the Christian's encounter with others and the world (see chapter 3, for example). We now wish to continue this theme of encounter with greater specificity and extensiveness.

The true Christian is imbued with consciousness of others. That is to say, the true Christian is keenly aware that, to a great degree, God intends each of us to press on toward maturity in the spiritual life through a proper encounter with others. Indeed, the Christian imperative reminds us that we are to walk life's path, not in   isolation, but hand in hand with our fellow human beings.

Messenger:     People that stay to themselves because

                            they can't get along may

                            be missing a golden

                            opportunity to grow

                            in greater perfection.

                        Two men were in charge of 2 separate

                            locations in a community.

                            They couldn't get along

                            they were both controlling and

                            each previously owned their own

                            business. They fought and 

                            fought wanting their own way —

                            arguing to get their way.

                        How much unity would their

                            be between these 2 locations?

                        Some people never admit they have

                            any problems because they

                            see themselves as superior

                            and/or always right and/or 

                            always perfect.
