January 3, 2012 - Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus
R. The priest said at Mass today:
Our name is important —
Parents spend time picking out a name.
Scripture tells us about the importance
of a name —
Adam and Eve named the animals —
John the Baptist's name must be John —
Name - the awareness of another —
Calling by name of person, calls our
relationship to them.
Jesus - our Savior —
Jesus was named before He was conceived —
The Father named Jesus —
God the Father made Jesus our Savior —
God comes through us through Jesus —
We are to put on Christ and love one another —
We act in His Name

Let Us Pray
O Lord Jesus Christ, Who hast said: "Ask and ye shall receive; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you"; grant, we beseech Thee, to us who ask, the gift of Thy most divine love, that we may ever love Thee with all our heart, and in all our words and actions, and never cease from praising Thee.
Make us, O Lord, to have both a perpetual fear and love of Thy holy name, for Thou never failest to govern those whom Thou foundest upon the strength of Thy love, Who livest and reignest, world without end. R. Amen.
R. Men who thought they had power over Jesus
whipped Him —
The devil wants the just man to bow to him —
Many times the devil presses on those who give their power
to him, to try to force the just man
to admit the wrong deed of the one
committing evil is right —
The just man has to fight the man doing wrong
in trying to force his wrong behavior.
A man can live their whole life trying to
prove they are right — their whole reality
is this — proving they are never wrong at
all costs — they never say they are sorry
because they live a lie telling themselves
they do no wrong — pray for the evil one
working in this way against just men.
Love is truth —
Humility is admitting the good and evil in us —
Humility is truth —
A person can be bored and do something against
God's will to control another —
When one is disobedient to those over them —
they can be the devils play ground —
1 John 2: 29 - 3: 6
If you know that he is upright
you must recognise that everyone
whose life is upright
is a child of his.
You must see what great love
the Father has lavished on us
by letting us be called God’s children—
which is what we are!
The reason why the world
does not acknowledge us
is that it did not acknowledge him.
My dear friends,
we are already God’s children,
but what we shall be in the future
has not yet been revealed.
We are well aware that when he appears
we shall be like him,
because we shall see him as he really is.Whoever treasures this hope of him
purifies himself, to be as pure as he is.
Whoever sins, acts wickedly,
because all sin is wickedness.
Now you are well aware
that he has appeared
in order to take sins away,
and that in him there is no sin.
No one who remains in him sins,
and whoever sins
has neither seen him nor recognised him.
Psalm 98: 1, 3-6
Sing a new song to Yahweh,
for he has performed wonders,
his saving power is in his right hand
and his holy arm.
mindful of his faithful love and his constancy
to the House of Israel.
The whole wide world has seen
the saving power of our God.
Acclaim Yahweh, all the earth,
burst into shouts of joy!
Play to Yahweh on the harp,
to the sound of instruments;
to the sound of trumpet and horn,
acclaim the presence of the King.
John 1: 29-34
The next day, he saw Jesus coming towards him and said, ‘Look, there is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. It was of him that I said, "Behind me comes one who has passed ahead of me because he existed before me." I did not know him myself, and yet my purpose in coming to baptise with water was so that he might be revealed to Israel.’ And John declared, ‘I saw the Spirit come down on him like a dove from heaven and rest on him. I did not know him myself, but he who sent me to baptise with water had said to me, "The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and rest is the one who is to baptise with the Holy Spirit." I have seen and I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.’
R. We can either do what God wants or
follow the devil —
We can walk in virtue or
Live by vices —
Here are the 7 deadly sins:
pride, greed, envy, wrath,
lust,
gluttony,
and sloth.
1 John 3: 7-10
Children, do not let anyone
lead you astray.
Whoever acts uprightly is upright,
just as he is upright.
Whoever lives sinfully
belongs to the devil,
since the devil has been a sinner
from the beginning.
This was the purpose
of the appearing of the Son of God,
to undo the work of the devil.
No one who is a child of God sins
because God’s seed remains in him.
Nor can he sin,
because he is a child of God.
This is what distinguishes
the children of God
from the children of the devil:
whoever does not live uprightly
and does not love his brother
is not from God.
John 1: 35-42
The next day as John stood there again with two of his disciples, Jesus went past, and John looked towards him and said, ‘Look, there is the lamb of God.’ And the two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus. Jesus turned round, saw them following and said, ‘What do you want?’ They answered, ‘Rabbi’—which means Teacher—‘where do you live?’ He replied, ‘Come and see’; so they went and saw where he lived, and stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.
One of these two who became followers of Jesus after hearing what John had said was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and say to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’—which means the Christ— and he took Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon son of John; you are to be called Cephas’—which means Rock.
Sing: All the Ends of the Earth
God calls us to love —
Selfishness is slavery to satan
Hatred is slavery to satan
Doing God's will is what is important —
To seek His will —
Jesus: One can teach themselves bad
habits — living in competition
with their brothers —
making everything a game —
I am not giving you life
to see if you can raise
above your brothers —
play games —
I call you to respond to the
love I have given you
by living more and more in My
image and likeness —
In reading the writings I gave
in John — in the Mass — these
days — you see — you are to
respond in love —
Serve God —
Let go of bad competitive habits,
jealousies, envy —
seeing life this way is
choosing satan's vision
not your heavenly Father's
vision —
A woman married and had many
children and she had to care for
them. When they were little she
had to protect them from harm
for little ones can hurt themselves.
Your life is to be lived in loving
and giving love to others — helping
others to get to heaven, sharing
what you were given to build
relationships furthering the
Kingdom of God —
With the man doing evil his focus is
himself. His counsel is not the Holy Spirit,
he can listen to the evil one
so much he develops vices and
bad habits — punishing,
manipulating others to be in
control.
People who abuse others through
constant manipulation are unloving
to their brothers and operating
as satan wants them to.
Their response is not to God's
love — They are seeing through
the eyes of satan — eyes of
jealousy, anger, envy, seeking
dominance for dominance sake —
I call you to give, to service
in love, to joy, to helping others —
If you can see a concerned mother
loving her children, going out
to them, helping them to know
God, she is not one seeing her
children for how they will serve
her.
The person rooted in vices
is turned inward, the more
they play self seeking prideful
games — the further they go away
from union with God and others.
they are hating themselves most,
because they are not acting
according to the Plan of the Father
of serving and loving, of going
out to others — in living a
virtuous life of faith, hope
and love and seeing through the
eyes of God the Father —
the man steeped in vices is
hating himself for he is sinning —
being a rival to God's will —
not living as God intended with
his talents to help build
the Kingdom —
the man steeped in vices, has
distorted thinking and it
gets more and more distorted
as he serves satan and
not God.
Everything is seen through this
blindness and it is doing
what satan prompts him to do
or he does from his viceful
ways.
He is not following in My
ways. He has made himself
a rival to God's will. He has
become enslaved to satan.
I am the way, the truth and
the life.
Excerpt of The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, by Louis J. Puhl, S.J.
136. THE FOURTH DAY
A MEDITATION ON TWO STANDARDS
The one of Christ, our supreme leader and lord, the other of Lucifer, the deadly enemy of our human nature
PRAYER. The usual preparatory prayer.
window at a former Jesuit Seminary137. FIRST PRELUDE. This is the history. Here it will be that Christ calls and wants all beneath His standard, and Lucifer, on the other hand, wants all under his.
138. SECOND PRELUDE. This is a mental representation of the place. It will be here to see a great plain, comprising the whole region about Jerusalem, where the sovereign Commander-in-Chief of all the good is Christ our Lord; and another plain about the region of Babylon, where the chief of the enemy is Lucifer.
139. THIRD PRELUDE. This is to ask for what I desire. Here it will be to ask for a knowledge of the deceits of the rebel chief and help to guard myself against them; and also to ask for a knowledge of the true life exemplified in the sovereign and true Commander, and the grace to imitate Him.
FIRST PART
THE STANDARD OF SATAN
140. FIRST POINT. Imagine you see the chief of all the enemy in the vast plain about Babylon, seated on a great throne of fire and smoke, his appearance inspiring horror and terror.
141. SECOND POINT. Consider how he summons innumerable demons, and scatters them, some to one city and some to another, throughout the whole world, so that no province, no place, no state of life, no individual is overlooked.
142. THIRD POINT. Consider the address he makes to them, how he goads them on to lay snares for men and bind them with chains. First they are to tempt them to covet riches (as Satan himself is accustomed to do in most cases) that they may the more easily attain the empty honors of this world, and then come to overweening pride.
The first step, then, will be riches, the second honor, the third pride. From these three steps the evil one leads to all other vices.
SECOND PART
THE STANDARD OF CHRIST
143. In a similar way, we are to picture to ourselves the sovereign and true Commander, Christ our Lord.
144. FIRST POINT. Consider Christ our Lord, standing in a lowly place in a great plain about the region of Jerusalem, His appearance beautiful and attractive.
145. SECOND POINT. Consider how the Lord of all the world chooses so many persons, apostles, disciples, etc., and sends them throughout the whole world to spread His sacred doctrine among all men, no matter what their state or condition.
146. THIRD POINT. . . .

Micah 5: 1-4
But you (Bethlehem) Ephrathah,
the least of the clans of Judah,
from you will come for me
a future ruler of Israel
whose origins go back to the distant past,
to the days of old.
Hence Yahweh will abandon them
only until she who is in labour gives birth,
and then those who survive of his race
will be reunited to the Israelites.
He will take his stand
and he will shepherd them
with the power of Yahweh,
with the majesty of the name of his God,
and they will be secure,
for his greatness will extend
henceforth to the most distant parts
of the country. He himself will be peace!

INTRODUCTION: The capital of Assyria was in what is today, northern Iraq. The Assyrian army was powerful and was famous for its savagery. They had destroyed the northern kingdom of Israel and did considerable damage to the southern kingdom. They surrounded Jerusalem and were calling for its surrender. Naturally the citizens of Jerusalem were terrified. We hear in today’s first reading words of hope spoken to God's people by the prophet Micah. The book of the prophet Micah is very short and this is the only time in three years we hear from him. He promises salvation would come out of an unimportant little village about seven miles south of Jerusalem, the birthplace of King David: Bethlehem. This savior would rescue God's people and lead them to peace.

HOMILY: Soon we will begin our celebration of the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. The liturgy today invites us to set aside for an hour from all our busyness and to experience with Mary the wonder of God's coming to us.
Today’s gospel of the visitation is preceded by the story of the annunciation. The angel Gabriel who asked Mary if she would be the mother of our Savior also informed her that her aged cousin Elizabeth, after years of wanting to have a child, was finally going to have one. “In haste” Mary left Nazareth and made the trip of about 65 or 70 miles (probably a four day trip for her) to the home of Elizabeth and Zechariah near Jerusalem. No doubt the youthful Mary was a big help to her cousin in the three months she stayed with her.
To any observer, here was a young girl coming to help out her relative who was six months pregnant. But the Holy Spirit revealed to Elizabeth what was unable to be seen: Mary was carrying within herself the long awaited savior of God's people. God comes to us in simple, ordinary ways, ways our eyes cannot see but in ways that can be seen through faith and the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth wonders how she should be so honored with a visit from Mary and Jesus. We must ask the same question. How is it we should be so honored that Christ has come into our lives, that he speaks to us through the Scriptures, that he feeds us with his own flesh and blood in the Eucharist, that he hears us when we pray (even if he doesn’t always do what we want), that the touches us through the kindness of another.
Sometimes I hear the argument from those who support abortion that we don’t know when the human soul comes into a fetus. Jesus could have been only a few days old, for the gospel tells us Mary went to Elizabeth “with haste” after the annunciation. John the Baptist, still unborn, and Elizabeth recognized Mary was carrying within herself something infinitely more than just a blob of tissue. They recognized the wonderful presence of the Son of God and they were filled with joy.
The whole passage is bursting with joy. Elizabeth was excited by Mary’s visit. John the Baptist, three months from being born was jumping for joy. The Church has taught that at that moment John was set free from original sin and filled with God's grace. Christ came to him before he was born, he was as it were, baptized or christened. Generally the Church celebrates the feast day of a saint only on their date of death, because that’s the day they are born into eternal life. But there are only three holy people whose birthday the Church celebrates, Jesus, Mary and John the Baptist, because they were already in God's grace when they were born. But as Christ came to John before his birth, Christ came to each of us on the day we were reborn through the sacrament of baptism. That should cause all of us to jump for joy, knowing that Christ has come to us, that he has given us his grace and has chosen us to be children of God.
Elizabeth said to Mary “Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” The Greek word used here for “blessed” also means “happy.” Mary was happy because she truly believed what the Lord had spoken to her and if you get out your bibles and read what follows today’s gospel passage, you will see how truly happy she was. She sang a beautiful hymn of praise to God, a hymn known as the Magnificat. It is this song of praise that we will use for our offertory hymn. Do we really want to be happy? This is the key, do not doubt God, do not doubt his love, do not doubt his presence, do not doubt his teachings. He doesn’t always do things the way we think he should, and we don’t always know what he thinking. That’s why we just have to trust him. Mary didn’t always know either what he was up to, but she trusted him always and was always ready to say as her son would in his own life “Behold, I come to do your will, O God.”
In a short time we will celebrate the birth of Mary’s son. May we always feel the joy that his birth can give us, the assurance that in Jesus God is with us and God loves us. Amen.
R. I like the joke Fr. Joe said on Christmas
December 25, 2007.
A tune to shop by: Angels we have heard on high; sing so sweetly while we buy.
Demons, too, who lobby hard; for maxing out our credit card.
R. because it tells of the demons
lobbing hard — that is what
they do - to tempt and press down,
manipulate, confuse, lie to
get a soul to sell themselves —
listening to satan and forming
vices is misery because it is
opposing God's will for us and
distancing ourselves from God.
The Mighty God who made this vast
universe, who made men and
women and wants unity and
love, who commands us to love
is telling us we must love and
we disobey Him when we hate and
give into the deadly sins,
pride, greed, envy, wrath,
lust,
gluttony,
and sloth.
and turn inward.
We see the example of the New
Adam and the New Eve. We see
how Christ allowed Himself
to be treated doing the Father's will
and we too are to follow
in Jesus' footsteps dying
and rising in Him and following
the commandments. Life is found
in Him.
We see Pharaoh, at the time of
Moses, who served himself and
enslaved others, we see the Plagues
God sent to get him to change,
but he would not — even after
the angel of death took his
first-born —
But it says in scripture
the Lord made Pharaoh obstinate —
OBSTINATE —
Let us pray for healing so we
are not obstinate against
God — like this Pharaoh was
And what happened —
God divided the Red Sea
and it says
Exodus 14: 8-9
Yahweh made Pharaoh king of Egypt stubborn, and he gave chase to the Israelites. The Israelites marched confidently away, but the Egyptians, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, his horsemen and his army, gave chase and caught up with them where they lay encamped beside the sea near Pi–Hahiroth, facing Baal–Zephon.
Exodus 14: 17-31
while I, for my part, shall make the Egyptians so stubborn that they will follow them, and I shall win glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and all his army, chariots and horsemen. And when I have won glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and his chariots and horsemen, the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh.’
Then the angel of God, who preceded the army of Israel, changed station and followed behind them. The pillar of cloud moved from their front and took position behind them. It came between the army of the Egyptians and the army of Israel. The cloud was dark, and the night passed without the one drawing any closer to the other the whole night long. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea back with a strong easterly wind all night and made the sea into dry land. The waters were divided and the Israelites went on dry ground right through the sea, with walls of water to right and left of them. The Egyptians gave chase, and all Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea after them. In the morning watch, Yahweh looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the pillar of fire and cloud and threw the Egyptian army into confusion. He so clogged their chariot wheels that they drove on only with difficulty, which made the Egyptians say, ‘Let us flee from Israel, for Yahweh is fighting on their side against the Egyptians!’ Then Yahweh said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand over the sea and let the waters flow back on the Egyptians and on their chariots and their horsemen.’ Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and, as day broke, the sea returned to its bed. The fleeing Egyptians ran straight into it, and Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea. The returning waters washed right over the chariots and horsemen of Pharaoh’s entire army, which had followed the Israelites into the sea; not a single one of them was left. The Israelites, however, had marched through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water to right and left of them. That day, Yahweh rescued Israel from the clutches of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the sea–shore. When Israel saw the mighty deed that Yahweh had performed against the Egyptians, the people revered Yahweh and put their faith in Yahweh and in Moses, his servant.
R. What happens when God gives
us good and good and then
we become a rival to
God and fight God in His
plan for us —
Satan tells the man what is
right is wrong and
what is wrong is right —
Then a man that tries to change
the rules that are good rules —
uses some force —
pressing down —
holding out —
creating tension —
to change just rules —
The evil one does in changing
or trying to change a plan
sent by God for their own
power and control can
be seen in story after story in
the Bible
and how in the end the man
fighting for truth and God's
rules wins and the
Pharaoh's whole soldiers
were swallowed up by
the sea because of his
obstinacy —
Hell can be seen like the
sea swallowing up the
bad guys and
the good guys passing
through to the Promised Land.
The more one is consumed with
selfishness, power and control
for vain glory, affections for
oneself — being right even when
they are wrong — the more the
devil is working and using this
man's power to do his work
through him —
Just as God gives us grace and
we do good because of God's
grace —
The man doing evil, sees more and more
through these eyes of punishing,
getting even, jealousy,
anger, pride and control for
his own vain glory.
Seeing through jealous eyes
can be habits of how people
act —
They fail to be reaching for God's
special plan for them in
their lives, loving it,
giving themselves in loving
God and their neighbor
and in serving God —
God is our God.
When one is hating his brother
trying to block God's will
for the brother —
they are a rival to God's will and
they will have unhappiness,
darkness and sacrifice
their intimacy and love
for God and others that
bring them real joy —
authentic love is living
in God's truth —
Serving God to help build
the Kingdom —
Fr. Carter says in Response to God's Love
Excerpt from Chapter 5 - Christian Virtues
Love
. . . Our own greatness in Christ, our own growth as Christians, can develop smoothly and joyfully because, from time to time, we experience the goodness and love within the hearts of others, and this makes it easy for us to love as we should. Sometimes, however, the less wholesome side of both humanity and the human condition crowds in upon us, and we find it rather difficult to go on loving as we should. In the same way that Christ suffered because of others, we, too, as we try to love, suffer because of others. We suffer because others do not always understand us—this can be true even of those who dearly love us. We suffer because some do not appreciate what we do for them—and sometimes what we do exacts great personal cost. We suffer because others either reject us or make us the objects of their meanness and selfishness. We suffer because there are some who ignore us. At times we suffer so much that we are tempted to quit loving as we know we should. We are tempted to withdraw from the pain of giving ourselves in love into an egotistic enclosure of self-seeking, where, we think, we will no longer suffer at the hands of others—or at least we will not suffer so much. To surrender to such a temptation, however, is to forget what Christian greatness really is—namely, a life of love for God and man, a love that does not shrink from the pain that results from loving in an imperfect world, a love that is meant to become greater and more selfless regardless of the way others might treat us. Love, then, accepts both the joy and the pain of life and carries on under both conditions.
Another characteristic of this highest Christian virtue is its concentration upon the present—love is now. Love is more concerned with the present than it is with the past or the future. Although love does not fail to give proper attention to either the past or the future, its main emphasis is upon the present.
We are past-persons, present-persons, and future-persons; however, we are mostly present-persons. The past, after all, is forever gone—we cannot bring it back and relive it. We can learn from past mistakes and otherwise profit through a proper reflection on the past; however, we must not allow our legitimate recollections of the part of life that has passed us by to deteriorate into morbid preoccupations concerning what has been, but now is no more. We must think of the future and properly plan so that we will enter the days ahead reasonably prepared for various eventualities. Thinking about future goals can also spur our present enthusiasm and endeavors; however, to live too much in the future is a detriment to present achievement. Excessive thought about the future dilutes the energy we should be expending on the present.
Love is now. The more love matures, the more it concentrates upon the present. Love welcomes each day with a fresh joy and a renewed gratitude to God for the opportunity to once again be and become for him and for others. Love realizes that it does not fully possess the past or the future—it can only fully grasp the present, and it loathes to waste any of the preciousness that "the now" offers.
Love is gentle, love is tender. Love is sensitive to the gentleness in nature; it is moved by the softness of the freshly fallen white snow, the coolness of an autumn breeze tenderly stroking the brow, and the softness of the grass in May-time greenness. Much more important, love is sensitive to the needs for gentleness, for tenderness, in human affairs. Consequently, love gently comforts the grief-stricken parents of a child so tragically and suddenly snatched away in death; love gently encourages those to whom life seems hopeless; love sensitively tends to the needs of those who are so often and so easily forgotten; love rejoices in the tender embrace of a black boy and a white boy in their prejudice-free playfulness. Yes, the gentleness of love manifests itself in these and in many other ways, and, in so doing, imitates the gentleness, the tenderness, of Jesus himself. "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, murderess of prophets and stoner of those who were sent to you! How often have I yearned to gather your children, as a mother bird gathers her young under her wings, but you refused me" (Mt 23:37).
The fact that love is gentle does not mean that it is not strong. It is precisely this, and the blend between its tenderness and its strength constitutes a facet of its attractiveness. Love is strong in many ways: It is not discouraged by the evil in the world that threatens to thwart the accomplishment of love's goals; it realizes that the strength of goodness is mightier that the force of evil, and that, ultimately, love wins out. Love is also strong in bearing with the temporary failures that are experienced in the pursuit of its purpose. Although love may be disappointed, it nevertheless realizes that the only failure it cannot conquer would be love's refusal—love's failure—to go on loving, and true love will never quit. Love is strong in its willingness to take the necessary means to achieve its goals, even though this might entail great personal cost, or cause misunderstanding or even hurt among those who are the recipients of this love.
Love is not jealous. It is, of course, tempted to jealousy, but true love refuses to yield. Love is not jealous of another person's affections, nor is it jealous of another person's talents. Love always realizes the important distinction between one's jealous feelings, which cannot always be willed away, and one's will, which can refuse to consent to the evil suggestions of jealous feelings.
Love is secure. A person who properly loves is in touch with his or her true self and realizes that he or she is tremendously loved by God. The person who properly loves feels secure in his or her exercise of love toward others. He or she feels secure enough to extend love towards others in various ways, even in those relationships in which little or no love is returned. In doing so, however, this person loves prudently and appropriately. That is to say, he or she does not try to force the love of friendship upon a person who does not seem to want this type of love, but rather, will love that person with a different, more appropriate love.
Closely allied to love's feeling secure is love's intuition in realizing the evils of possessiveness. Feeling reasonably secure of his or her self, the authentic lover does not try to possess the persons whom he or she loves, but leaves the other free. In fact, authentic love for the other makes the other more free and helps the other to grow in all ways—including growth along the paths of real freedom. The authentic lover leaves the other free to grow in all sorts of ways, to relate to other people, and to undertake new things—activities that might well make the loved one much less accessible.

From a Lenten Homily, March 24, 2000
Live in the Moment
Today’s Gospel in its story certainly points ahead to Jesus in His Passion and death. And as we read passages such as this during the Lenten season, we are reminded once again that the Church in her Liturgy of the Word gives us an opportunity to undergo a purification, an ever deepening cleansing of ourselves so that we may be a more fit instrument for receiving the great graces which are to be given to us at the time of the Resurrection memorial on Easter. And so all in all, Lent is a time of purification to prepare us for ever-greater gifts of the Lord. It’s a time of self-discipline, a time to renew our efforts to be self-disciplined in the service of the Lord. Self-discipline is an aspect of purification. And I suggest that one of the most difficult acts of self-discipline in the spiritual journey is to concentrate on the present moment. We have a very strong tendency to disregard the importance of the present moment by focusing in a wrong way on the past or in a wrong way on the future. There are proper occasions for thinking of the past and the future. For example, we have to learn from the past and we have to prepare for the future, but our great emphasis has to be upon the present. There is a Latin axiom which says, age quod agis, age quod agis, which means: do what you are doing, concentrate on the present. And of course we are familiar with that term in the history of spirituality: the sacrament of the present moment. And so the discipline of Lent certainly encourages us to include in a deeper self-discipline a greater determination to get as much as we can out of the present moment. People with a terminal illness have an opportunity as they prepare for death for increased prayer, contrition, love of God. However, some are taken very, very quickly. But for those who have the opportunity of knowing with some certainty the time of their death, I’m sure as they look back on their lives, they are saddened by the many times they did not use time and opportunities for the service of the Lord properly, and are overjoyed at those times in which they did use the present opportunity properly. A great means we have of living in the present properly is a greater focus upon our Lord. For if I have that awareness of the fact I am united with Jesus here and now, why should I be concerned so much about the future or the past? Yes, a great help in living in the present and deriving all the good we can from it for ourselves and others is an ever greater focus upon Jesus, because the more I focus upon Jesus and the more I live with Him in the present moment, the more I am satisfied with the present moment. And so let us in our Lenten activity resolve to grow in that self-discipline - which is very difficult at times - to really live in the presence with the fullness of our being as much as is possible, with the help of God’s grace. Now is the day of salvation. Now is the day of salvation.

Excerpt from July 5, 2011 Rosary
Transcribed live from a tape
Clearwater, Florida
At the end of the rosary:
Mary speaks and she says: Count the stars if you can. Can you my child, count the stars in the darkened night? Why can you not count the stars? Oh, you can't do it. Think of that my child. How many things you do not know that are impossible for you to know on your own. For God has given to you great insights in these two days of retreat, and great grace has been granted to you, if you will cooperate with the grace, that your hearts will know Jesus, more and more fully, that you will be transformed more and more, in the image of my Son Jesus. Do whatever He tells you, my child. Let Him work in your life. Do not try and control what is opposed to the will of the Father, for it will bring you great unhappiness.
It is in seeking the will of God. It is in wanting to study and to know your God. It is in coming as a docile, small child, ready to be taught, that you will have the greatest happiness in your life. And the light of Jesus will shine from you, and others will see His life in you, and they will be touched, because God will use you as His instrument to witness to His love in this world. The world belongs to God and you belong to God. Do not fight the plan of the Father, by trying to be willful, by running your life against what He has planned for you.
For you have been given great talents to make a contribution, on this earth that will last long after you are gone, if you do not fight the plan of the Father, but that if you are docile to His touch, trying to seek, to know all that God wants you to know, that you will live as God intended you to live, to further His Kingdom, to spread love to others, and to grow in your purity and love of God yourself. I am Mary, your spiritual Mother. My Spouse the Holy Spirit wants to fill you now with His wisdom, with His grace, with His love, with His gift of discernment, but you must be docile to His touch. Come to my Immaculate Heart and He will work in your lives forming you more and more in the image of Jesus.
Oh my precious little one, I watched my Son as He died - for you — out of love for you. He rose on the third day that you could share His life, that you could be filled more abundantly at every moment with His life, that you could live out the plan of the Father in your lives, and be at peace even in suffering. I am your Heavenly Mother and I speak to you now. I speak to you, really speak to you. Study this message. Study this message and your life will be a life of peace. I am the Queen of Peace. I am the Queen of the Universe. I am Our Lady of Clearwater, your Heavenly Mother. Now my children, pray for all your needs. Ask the Holy Spirit to pray for you, now, for what you need, and then say loudly - Amen. Amen.
Hail Mary
Sing: Come unto Me all who are weary and find rest for your soul etc.
Jesus: I am Jesus your Savior and I am with you in a special way this night. Stop now and focus on God: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who fills your graced, baptized soul. Let go, little one. Know Our presence with you. For you do not walk alone. I am with you and I love you. To My death on the cross, I loved you, dear and sweet precious one. Gift of My Heavenly Father to this earth. Do not listen to satan. Pray to know the truth. The truth that God created you uniquely special, to make a contribution that goes far beyond your days on this earth. For He has made you great, for His purpose. He has created you and you belong to Him. Why would you fight this, for your own foolish whims, for the misery that you cause yourself when you oppose the Father's will — little sweet and dear loved ones.
Sing: I come to you with greatest love (A Song from Jesus)
Sing: I love you this day (God's Love)
Jesus: I give you Myself in the Eucharist. I long for you to come to Me, to be with Me. You who have given your lives to this service, be at peace. Know how much I love you. Do not be anxious, that what you convey to others is your joy at serving Me, at knowing My constant presence with you, of giving yourself to your Divine Bridegroom. I am the Bridegroom of your soul. Come to Me little sweet one.
And the sky was rolled back. It was rolled back, like the white cloth, rolled down the isle, for the bride to walk, to the bridegroom. Do not leave your bridegroom, betrayed at the altar of your life. Every day walk the isle, My precious bride, to My waiting arms and give your day and your life to Me. I long for you. I long to share every moment with you, that I am with you, around you, in you, and you are never alone.
Do not give into fear or going to the closet of fear and locking the door. When I knock on the door, there you are, with the old bad habits of fear. Or nurturing the old habits of 'poor me' and 'it's your fault'. Turn over your lives and your wills to God. Pray for the grace this night, the grace that I want to give to you, the healing grace that you will be My witness in this world, a light to the people in the market place, for they will see My light in you. They will know My love, and they will be touched as I operate through you.
Mary: Oh children, listen to Jesus. This is the building of the Two Hearts, and We are with you in a special way. Let the Holy Spirit fill you now. Be one with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Know that the Lady of Clearwater has never left this building, that I am here and that special graces are given to all who come, graces of healing, graces of being touched in their hearts, strength in the midst of adversity. Tremendous gifts are given to you from this place, from the statues with the glass. When you pray the Shepherds of Christ prayers you will know great healing in your homes, for your families and for yourself. Have faith, my little ones. I am your Mother, your spiritual Mother, Our Lady of Clearwater. The waters that were given to you, the Jesus Water and the Mary Water are special waters — waters of healing — waters to ward against satan. Use the waters wisely and know that God will grant to you special favors, for your faith, but your faith must increase. You must pray to God to increase your faith. I am Mary your Mother and I love you.
Hail Holy Queen
The Memorare
Mary: Come to the building, especially on the 5ths, and come and pray during the retreats. For your Heavenly Father wants you to help make reparation in praying, because the human race has majorly offended God. But your prayers weigh heavy in the heavenly courts. Be holy my chosen one. That the message that you give to others, is a message of love, that they will be touched by your holiness. And know that God is at work there. So they will seek Him and love Him, and find what they were created for - life in Him. I am your heavenly Mother, and I am here in this building. I am present with you now. I appear in great white light that you will know I have never left, and my Son, Jesus is here with you. Thank you for your prayers, for the human race. Pray with the prayers in China this month on retreat. I love you. I am your heavenly Mother. Your prayers weighed heavy in the courts of God. When you listen to the call of Jesus to pray here as He has requested, as the Heavenly Father has requested, as I have requested, and the prayers in China in the retreat ending on the 13th. Pray my little one, for you please your Heavenly Father greatly. I am Mary your Mother and I am with you now. Take a moment to just sit and feel this special time that God wants to touch your soul. I am Mary and I am with you. Jesus is with you. Pray now for your needs. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. God Bless America.
Please. Amen.

Reflect on the Word
Guiding Light homily series -
Reflect on the Word - Cycle B — The Word leaves
an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are
born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts
presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a
sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in
this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual
entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman
Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are
ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at
us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect
upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $15

Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A — The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15 | ||

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C — In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15 |
Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B — At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15 |
