Today's Readings
2 Maccabees 7: 1, 20-31
It also happened that seven brothers were arrested with their mother. The king tried to force them to taste some pork, which the Law forbids, by torturing them with whips and scourges.
But the mother was especially admirable and worthy of honourable remembrance, for she watched the death of seven sons in the course of a single day, and bravely endured it because of her hopes in the Lord. Indeed she encouraged each of them in their ancestral tongue; filled with noble conviction, she reinforced her womanly argument with manly courage, saying to them, 'I do not know how you appeared in my womb; it was not I who endowed you with breath and life, I had not the shaping of your every part. And hence, the Creator of the world, who made everyone and ordained the origin of all things, will in his mercy give you back breath and life, since for the sake of his laws you have no concern for yourselves.'
Antiochus thought he was being ridiculed, suspecting insult in the tone of her voice; and as the youngest was still alive he appealed to him not with mere words but with promises on oath to make him both rich and happy if he would abandon the traditions of his ancestors; he would make him his Friend and entrust him with public office. The young man took no notice at all, and so the king then appealed to the mother, urging her to advise the youth to save his life. After a great deal of urging on his part she agreed to try persuasion on her son. Bending over him, she fooled the cruel tyrant with these words, uttered in their ancestral tongue, 'My son, have pity on me; I carried you nine months in my womb and suckled you three years, fed you and reared you to the age you are now, and provided for you. I implore you, my child, look at the earth and sky and everything in them, and consider how God made them out of what did not exist, and that human beings come into being in the same way. Do not fear this executioner, but prove yourself worthy of your brothers and accept death, so that I may receive you back with them in the day of mercy.'
She had hardly finished, when the young man said, 'What are you all waiting for? I will not comply with the king's ordinance; I obey the ordinance of the Law given to our ancestors through Moses. As for you, who have contrived every kind of evil against the Hebrews, you will certainly not escape the hands of God.
Psalm 17: 1, 5-6, 8, 15
Prayer Of David
Listen, Yahweh, to an upright cause,
pay attention to my cry,
lend an ear to my prayer,
my lips free from deceit.my steps never stray from the paths you lay down,
from your tracks; so my feet never stumble.
I call upon you, God, for you answer me;
turn your ear to me, hear what I say.Guard me as the pupil of an eye,
shelter me in the shadow of your wingsBut I in my uprightness will see your face,
and when I awake I shall be filled with the vision of you.
Luke 19: 11-28
While the people were listening to this he went on to tell a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and they thought that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there. Accordingly he said, ‘A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and then return. He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, telling them, "Trade with these, until I get back." But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to follow him with this message, "We do not want this man to be our king."
‘Now it happened that on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for those servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made by trading. The first came in, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has brought in ten." He replied, "Well done, my good servant! Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in a very small thing, you shall have the government of ten cities." Then came the second, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has made five." To this one also he said, "And you shall be in charge of five cities." Next came the other, "Sir," he said, "here is your pound. I put it away safely wrapped up in a cloth because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you gather in what you have not laid out and reap what you have not sown." He said to him, "You wicked servant! Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So you knew that I was an exacting man, gathering in what I have not laid out and reaping what I have not sown? Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out with interest." And he said to those standing by, "Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has ten pounds." And they said to him, "But, sir, he has ten pounds . . ." "I tell you, to everyone who has will be given more; but anyone who has not will be deprived even of what he has.
"As for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in my presence." ’When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
R. God gives us life - to help build the
Kingdom of God –
Our lives are a witness before others.
How can we not see that people
watch those who attest
to be of God.
Example is a big thing.
We see children are watching and
how they act teaches them
how to be –
God made children and entrusted
them to parents –
Children can look like parents –
have the same ways in their
actions –
We are to see that, by example,
we teach many lessons.
We can declare ourselves to
be followers of Jesus and
then act unloving and
not working with others –
We were put here to do God's will –
If God has called us to work
with others – work things
out, to do His will –
it is very immature to not
work through problems, to
learn to give and take –
to live our lives to honor ourselves by
always living to try to prove ourselves right –
at all costs
–
"What you sow so shall you reap"
Example – who can not see – the
example of Jesus – who died
for our sins – who gives Himself
in the Eucharist in love –
Jesus did not hold back – Jesus gave
and gave and gave –
Jesus gives to us now –
Jesus gives us talents and our
life to help the world to be
better –
to invest in loving others –
to trust others He put over
us in just authority
to work with –
If everybody only worked for
themselves – the work
would not get done –
Christ is preparing us for a
heavenly reward –
We are here to love –
Our hearts were made to love –
God the Father gave His only begotten Son
so we could be saved –
Love gives –
Love works with others to
accomplish God's will –
Love is the message Jesus
gives in the Blue Books –
Willfulness against God is an
action a man chooses because
he wants his own will –
God has created us in His image
and likeness
Definition of Love
The definition of love used by Father Carter is as follows.
Love is the gift of self to promote the true
good of those loved. He states the reception of love is the receiving of the
gift of the other, so my good will be promoted.
R. Man is to seek the truth –
God is absolute truth –
God is Good –
Man is to seek truth and to
perform good acts likened
to Jesus.
Man was given a heart to love, to trust,
to communicate – to do it the
way God wants us to be –
We pray to God for the virtues of faith,
hope and love.
The opportunity is there to love –
to seek truth, to be witnesses
before our children, before
men –
Look at the earth – see its grandeur
in the way it operates –
see the baby comes and is
formed in the womb –
The little baby comes and is born
from such littleness by the
hand of God –
To follow Christ is why we were
born –
not to invent our own style
and prove how good we are –
Loving as God wants is SO Good!
Forgiving –
Working things out –
Telling the truth with our
mouth and our heart –
We are here to live in the
moment –
The goal for why we act is
to be good –
Actions are performed for goals –
Is what we do, for the goal of
building the Kingdom of God –
Are our intentions right for why
we perform a certain act?
People are watching –
We were given this life by God –
every day is a treasure –
to live with enthusiasm to
serve God as He desires –
to not squander any of the
precious time God has
given us to work to
build His Kingdom –
We are given talents to use and
teach future generations to make
the world better –
Hording things in selfishness is
not God's plan –
It is just to share our talents
for the Church and the world
to be better –
they are gifts – given from
God
– and we are to
cooperate with His plan –
Not clog the pipe for
ill intentions of selfishness –
Our time is given to us –
We are to grow in relationships
of love with God
and with others –
We are to teach our children how
to love others by our
example of how we
are in our lives –
Working out problems,
bending, not being willful
and selfish.
Priestly Newsletter Book II - September/October 1997
In all this Mary offers an example. Selfishness was totally foreign to her. She did not belong to herself. She belonged to God. She was not closed in upon herself. She was completely open to God. When God spoke, she listened. When God pointed the way, she followed. She realized that life is not a process a person masters by carefully mapping out one's own self-conceived plans of conquest, but a mystery to be gradually experienced by being open to God's personal and loving guidance.
Selfishness, then, did not close Mary off from God's call. Neither did fear. God asked her to assume a tremendous responsibility. He asked her to be the Mother of Jesus. Mary did not engage in a process of false humility and say that such a great role was above her. She did not say that she did not have the proper qualifications for this awesome mission. Briefly, she did not waste time looking at herself, making pleas that she was not worthy, telling the angel he had better go look for someone else. No, Mary did not look at herself. Her gaze was absorbed in God. She fully realized that whatever God asked of her, His grace would accomplish. She fully realized that although she herself had to cooperate, this work was much more God's than hers.
Mary's words, then, truly sum up what is the authentic Christian response at any point of life, in any kind of situation: "I am the handmaid of the Lord," said Mary, "let what you have said be done to me".

Use Your Talents
October 3, 1993 Chicago Marian Conference 11:30a.m.
Jesus: I am your Savior, Son of the Living God. I come to you that you might have life, not as the world gives you life, but My life which is life eternal. I carved you from My special carving and made you little less than an angel. I love you and cherish all the moments when you, My special child, come to sit with Me. I wait here and I hope you will choose to come, but I never force you. Your will is totally free and I give it to you because of My love and the will of the Father. I inform you in numerous ways. You do not have to guess and wonder. Come be with Me in this silence and all you need to know will be told to you. Your life is unfolding as a beautiful rose. Each petal falls and you plant My odors about as I so desire. I make your life full and sure as you trust in Me. No need for worrying, My little flower. My ways give you freedom if you listen to your heart. I am a personal God and you know Me as giving you fullness and life. You know there is some magnetism to Me and the way you crave to be part of Me. This is the work of the one, true God Who created you with a thirst that can only be quenched by Me. All roads that lead to Me give you fullness, worth, peace and joy, not as the world thinks, but as you yourself know true peace and joy. When I really touch you, you do not remain the same. I shed My Blood for you that you will have the life only I can give. What friend in this world would die for you? You, My child, were worth My dying for. I came that you will have life eternal and the gift I give is My Precious Blood for your sins. Come to Me in trouble and when you are bowed down. Come to Me in joy. Come to Me every day that you live and I will give you all you need. Seek to know Me more and more. Knowledge of Me, being with Me, are the only way to perfect peace. They lead to eternal life.
I have a divine plan for you. I created you with special gifts and talents to be used to do My work. They are not for your own self-promotion. You, My child, are nothing except as I created you. Why try to promote yourself? It is none of your own doing. I gave you the talents you are using. You had nothing to do with it. These talents were given to you to do My work. To use these talents to make yourself feel better than your brother is indeed a sin. You must realize they are loaned to you to work for Me. As you give someone a car, or loan them a place to stay, I loan you your talents to use to work for Me. If you do not work for Me and use them to make yourself better than your brother, you are offending Me. Likewise, if I give you talents and you do not use them because you think you are not as good as your brother, you are not being thankful to Me for My gifts to you. You are not using My gifts and that offends Me greatly. Each person was created by Me to do My work. Each person has all he needs to do My work. To be envious of others is fruitless. They have their job. You have yours. You are not supposed to do their work. That is why you were not given their talents.
Do your own work. Don't be envious of your brothers. Don't hide your talents. You did not earn them. I gave you your talents. You must sing because I will it. Others must do as I will them to do. It displeases Me to give you a gift and watch you hide it and make light of it. I give the gift. You must use all your gifts. They were given to you to do My work. Your brother has his gifts. Be grateful for your brother and he should be for you. You are all chosen by Me for a special mission. You know what to do. It feels right. I plant little seeds in your heart and all you do that is for you in the end feels right. You are not to be doing your brother's work or he yours. Talk to Me that you might know just what your work is and do it.
Do not hide your talents. Praise your God Who gave you these talents. Embrace and use them. This is not pride. This is My plan. I love you. I give to each of you, My precious children, as a mother who buys special Christmas gifts for each child. To buy gifts all the same for all your children is not to respect their specialness, their individuality.
Oh, I love you, little ones, so much. Please come to Me. I am so good and I wait to be with you and share My love with you. Come now. This is your top priority. All else will work when you come to Me first. I love you. You are My chosen children. Come and be filled and I make your loads light and I fill you with the Spirit of Salvation.
All roads that lead to Me are the right roads. Praise Me for I am good and I love you, little dear ones.

R.
Dear God
help us to have right - reasoning –
to live to serve You and
not hold onto bad tapes and ways
of acting that are habitual,
but destructive in our lives –
changing thinking patterns to
being as God wants is
essential –
changing our bad habits is
essential –
We pray that God will give us
grace to see the way to change –
Holy Spirit counsel me –
Build love –
Build relationship with God
and others
That is why we are here –
Mutual respect of others and
living in truth –
God has a plan
God created us –
We must pray to the Holy Spirit to know
God's will and the strength and
courage to do it –
We have one life to live –
Resentment, hatred, anger should
never be the reason we act –
Once I put my hand to the plow –
I may not be able to undo
what I did in my
hateful actions –
I can make a bed of
mud pies for myself –
and others –
I must pray to handle bad
temptations to act in
hate and anger and resentment –
not become deeper into
these defects of character –
Quick sand pulls a person in –
Acting on resentment, hatred,
anger and unforgiveness
is quick sand for myself
and it hurts others –
