Today's Readings
1 Maccabees 2: 15-29
The king's commissioners who were enforcing the apostasy came to the town of Modein for the sacrifices. Many Israelites gathered round them, but Mattathias and his sons drew apart. The king's commissioners then addressed Mattathias as follows, 'You are a respected leader, a great man in this town; you have sons and brothers to support you. Be the first to step forward and conform to the king's decree, as all the nations have done, and the leaders of Judah and the survivors in Jerusalem; you and your sons shall be reckoned among the Friends of the King, you and your sons will be honoured with gold and silver and many presents.' Raising his voice, Mattathias retorted, 'Even if every nation living in the king's dominions obeys him, each forsaking its ancestral religion to conform to his decrees, I, my sons and my brothers will still follow the covenant of our ancestors. May Heaven preserve us from forsaking the Law and its observances. As for the king's orders, we will not follow them: we shall not swerve from our own religion either to right or to left.' As he finished speaking, a Jew came forward in the sight of all to offer sacrifice on the altar in Modein as the royal edict required. When Mattathias saw this, he was fired with zeal; stirred to the depth of his being, he gave vent to his legitimate anger, threw himself on the man and slaughtered him on the altar. At the same time he killed the king's commissioner who was there to enforce the sacrifice, and tore down the altar. In his zeal for the Law he acted as Phinehas had against Zimri son of Salu. Then Mattathias went through the town, shouting at the top of his voice, 'Let everyone who has any zeal for the Law and takes his stand on the covenant come out and follow me.' Then he fled with his sons into the hills, leaving all their possessions behind in the town.
Many people who were concerned for virtue and justice went down to the desert and stayed there,
Psalm 50: 1-2, 5-6, 14-15
The God of gods, Yahweh, is speaking,
from east to west he summons the earth.
From Zion, perfection of beauty, he shines forth;Gather to me my faithful,
who sealed my covenant by sacrifice.
The heavens proclaim his saving justice,
God himself is judge. PauseLet thanksgiving be your sacrifice to God,
fulfil the vows you make to the Most High;
then if you call to me in time of trouble
I will rescue you and you will honour me.
Luke 19:41-44
Lament for Jerusalem
As he drew near and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it and said, ‘If you too had only recognised on this day the way to peace! But in fact it is hidden from your eyes! Yes, a time is coming when your enemies will raise fortifications all round you, when they will encircle you and hem you in on every side; they will dash you and the children inside your walls to the ground; they will leave not one stone standing on another within you, because you did not recognise the moment of your visitation.'
R. In salvation history – we see the
fervor of the martyrs who went
before us not to abandon God.
Men throughout salvation history have
been persecuted and the enemy have tried
to force them to worship false gods.
We see that Jesus came and died
for our sins. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
goes on all over the world and we can
unite to this.
We are members of the mystical
body of Christ and Christ is our
head.
We see the witness of those who
lived in faith and would not abandon
God, the one true God.
We see the blood of the martyrs
in the Church.
We know that Jesus shed His
blood for us – this is giving –
that Christ died for our sins.
We have been given the Mass,
the sacrifice of Calvary, sacramentally
made present. As we see these times
of trial – we know that we should
especially unite to the Mass all day and
pray for the world.

Say Daily
R. We know that as trials increase
in the world –
We need to go to daily Mass – Mass
is the sacrifice of Calvary sacramentally
made present –
We need to pray as we have never
prayed before –
Jesus gave Fr. Carter these prayers to
pray.
John 10: 11-15
I am the good shepherd:
the good shepherd lays down his life
for his sheep.
The hired man,
since he is not the shepherd
and the sheep do not belong to him,
abandons the sheep
as soon as he sees a wolf coming,
and runs away,
and then the wolf attacks
and scatters the sheep;
he runs away
because he is only a hired man
and has no concern for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd;
I know my own
and my own know me,
just as the Father knows me
and I know the Father;
and I lay down my life for my sheep.
R. Please help us spread Fr. Joe's Book
now and the Prayers of the Shepherds of Christ –
I printed 10,000 prayer brochures and
it cost $600.00 – you can help by
praying for the spread of these prayer
chapters and your donations –
Also the Mass Book, Blue Book 15
especially are on the Mass – Help me
spread them.

The Eucharist
At the Last Supper, on the night He was betrayed, our Saviour instituted the Eucharistic Sacrifice of His Body and Blood. He did this in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the Cross throughout the centuries until He should come again, and so to entrust to His beloved spouse, the Church, a memorial of His death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a paschal banquet in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us (Vatican II, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, No. 17)2
The Church, therefore, earnestly desires that Christ’s faithful, when present at this mystery of faith, should not be there as strangers or silent spectators. On the contrary, through a proper appreciation of the rites and prayers they should participate knowingly, devoutly, and actively. They should be instructed by God’s word and be refreshed at the table of the Lord’s body; they should give thanks to God; by offering the Immaculate Victim, not only through the hands of the priest, but also with him, they should learn to offer themselves too. Through Christ the Mediator, they should be drawn day by day into ever closer union with God and with each other, so that finally God may be all in all. (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, No. 48)3
Through the Eucharistic Sacrifice Christ the Lord desired to set before us in a very special way this remarkable union whereby we are united one with another and with our divine Head, a union that no word of praise can ever sufficiently express. For in this sacrifice the sacred ministers act not only as the representative of our Saviour, but as the representative of the whole Mystical Body and of each one of the faithful. Again, in this act of sacrifice, the faithful of Christ, united by the common bond of devotion and prayer, offer to the eternal Father through the hands of the priest, whose prayer alone has made it present on the altar, the Immaculate Lamb, the most acceptable victim of praise and propitiation for the Church’s universal need. Moreover, just as the divine Redeemer, while dying on the Cross, offered Himself to the eternal Father as Head of the whole human race, so now, ‘in this clean oblation’ He not only offers Himself as Head of the Church to His heavenly Father but in Himself His mystical members as well. He embraces them all, yes, even the weaker and more ailing members with the deepest love of His Heart. (Pope Pius XII, Mystici Corporis AAS. XXXV, 232-233)4

R. Dear God the Father, we offer You this day all
our prayers, works, joys and sufferings
united to Jesus in the Holy Sacrifice
of the Mass, in the Holy Spirit through the
powerful intercession of the angels and
saints and the souls in purgatory –
We give ourselves entirely to You and
ask for help now in this world
situation. Help members of the mystical body
of Christ to go to Mass, daily if possible,
and pray for the world and the Church.
Help priests and hierarchy to encourage
people to go to daily Mass and pray
for the Church and the world.
Help us when we are at Mass to remember
these intentions for the priests, the
Church and the world – to be deeply
united in our hearts.
We pray for our leaders, leaders all over
the world – making decisions for
mankind – to be just and prudent
and for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
At the hours of 3, 6, 9, and 12 we
wish to spread the Blood of Jesus
on the world – as we pray at these
hours for the protection of the
Blood of Jesus, shed for the sins
of men.
We desire to Consecrate the whole world
as far as we are able to the Sacred Heart
and Immaculate Heart. We pray for the
whole world in our Morning Offering.
We believe – God is with us –
We listen to Jesus and pray the prayers
He gave Fr. Carter, S. J. and ask others to
pray them giving devotion to the Sacred Heart
and Immaculate Heart –
Jesus please help us –
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus we place our trust
in You –
Please help us God –
We love You and thank You for
all Your gifts to us –
Help us to be holy –
Help us to be people of prayer –
With a grateful heart – we ask
Mary, Queen of Peace –
Mary, Our Lady of Clearwater
Please intercede for us.
We must be witnesses today of what
it means to live according to the
Commandments God has given us
and live according to His Word.
His Word teaches us how Jesus
gave. We are to give of ourselves
in prayer and work and
sacrifice in spreading the Good News.
We are to love God above all things
and love our neighbor as ourselves.
The Lord wept over Jerusalem –
R. There are so many that reject
God and turn to false gods today.
We pray for the priests, the Church
and the world –
We pray that the whole world will
make the Sacred Heart, the King and
Center of their Hearts.
We want to spread this Consecration
to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary to the
whole world –
We pray for this increase of faith, hope and
love in all of us and the whole mystical
body of Christ.
We pray for the mystical body of
Christ to be witnesses to Christ,
and this leaven to lift men
up in the world – through their
witness and their lives.
We believe, we believe, we believe.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus we place our
trust in Thee –
We answer the call of Jesus to
pray at 6:20 daily from our
centers and to realize as leaders of the
Shepherds of Christ it is our responsibility
to see that this is accomplished.
We are not concerned with our
control, but with God's will.
We have been called to put aside
our bad habits of controlling and
know – living as God wants us
to be, takes hard work.
We must learn to forgive and
put aside selfish control to help
what needs to happen, that God
wants to happen –
We have one life to live –
one day at a time –
one hour at a time –
one minute at a time –
How can we waste all these minutes
and seconds – holding out –
not living –
acting in resentment and hatred –
God has called us to love –
God has called us to give –
God has called us to spread the Good News –
God has called us to open our hearts and to pray
for the priests, the Church and the world –
It takes prayer to beg God to help a
person who is addicted to
controlling to let go of that
addiction. It takes grace and
realizing dependency on God
to let go and seek God's will
in love –
Let go and let God –
A person can live their whole life
trying to have power over
everything and everybody –
Really the Serenity Prayer is an
important prayer –
Serenity Prayer
God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change...
Courage to change the things I can
and Wisdom to know the difference.
R. In working the 12 steps for dysfunction,
for AA –
they learn they are powerless
to control everything–
They have to work hard to get over
the addictions in their lives –
being addicted to power and
control, being selfish, not
trusting others, is not living –
God put us here and He is in
control, but He gave us a
free will –
the man who eats chocolates
all day – or drinks too much,
or uses sex in the
wrong way –
has problems –
Addictions are a problem –
St. Ignatius gives us the purpose of the spiritual
exercises –
From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius,
by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. p. 1121. SPIRITUAL EXERCISES
Which have as their purpose the conquest of self
and the regulation of one's life in such a way that
no decision is made under the influence of any
inordinate attachment
R. A person must want to change themselves –
A person must pray for grace to
change to be likened to Christ –
A person can saddle up a horse –
so heavy the horse cannot
help the man saddling get
where he wants to go –
Trying to make others co-dependent on
us is a sickness when they
are lived day after day after
day by a well-able man or
woman who needs to change –
After years of trying to force others
to put more and more weight
on the back of another for
our sins and unforgiveness –
It is like Jesus, He put on His back
our sins and He carried the
cross laden with the sins
of the world –
Jesus paid the price, Jesus
fell 3 times on the way to Calvary –
Jesus gave Himself as a sacrifice
on the cross –
It is wrong to use others like a
horse saddling them with our
dysfunction –
Abuse is a way to force others
to put up with our
dysfunction by holding
out on what they need.
Holding out is abusive – like
a child of 5 holding their
breath to get their way –
We have one life to live –
one day at a time –
we are here to serve God –
every day –
to make Jesus the King and Center
of our hearts.
To do this we have to want to serve
Him – not hold on to dysfunction
and use others to pad our pride
and dysfunction –

R. Recovery is hard work –
Mary told us at Fatima we must
convert –
Christ calls us to die to those ways not
likened to Him and to rise
in Him.
The Pascal Mystery
Death/Resurrection –
We are here to grow – to seek
God's will – to be responsible
and accountable for our
actions –
God is order –
God is love –
God has a Plan –
We pray to the Holy Spirit to counsel us and
give us wisdom to know what
we need to know and
fortitude to do God's will and
understanding and fear of God
(that we don't want to offend
God with the smallest sin)
We have power to change our own
bad habits – to look at
ourselves and want to grow
more and more in the image of God.
We must accept the situations of things
that happened in our lives that may
have hurt us and move on – not
live in resentment for 30 years
punishing ourselves, our children
and all we touch.
God has called us to be wounded-healers.
We are to spread the Good News. We are
to forgive.
We are here to die to our
tainted ways, unloving ways,
resentful ways and to live
in God.
God gives us baptism – a sharing
in His life –
Why live your whole life fighting
everybody – when you can
depend on God and change an
unloving angry heart. Every
man is given a heart to love –
We have a free will to love or
not love – We must live to
change ourselves – not try to
force others around us to help
us live our dysfunctional ways,
unloving, resentful ways –
God wants us to unite to Him and
to know His love and guidance
in our lives – We must seek
God to fill our hearts with
His love – with His plan – with the
grace we need to change bad
habits that we saw before as
the only way to be and need to
change to serve God in love.
God has given so much to us –
We pray for the attitude of
gratitude –
We beg God to help us to change
the things in our old destructive
patterned behavior that
needs to change –
We can pray to God to enlighten us
to change our negative thoughts
that may have plagued our lives –
First to thine own self be true –
The gift of knowledge of the Holy Spirit
helps us to know what we
need to change in ourselves.
Sing: Let There Be Peace on Earth –
Act of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
"Lord Jesus, Chief Shepherd of the flock, I consecrate myself to Your most Sacred Heart. From Your pierced Heart the Church was born, the Church You have called me, as a member of Shepherds of Christ Associates, to serve in a most special way. You reveal Your Heart as a symbol of Your love in all its aspects, including Your most special love for me, whom You have chosen as Your companion in this most important work. Help me to always love You in return. Help me to give myself entirely to You. Help me always to pour out my life in love of God and neighbor! Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You!
"Dear Blessed Virgin Mary, I consecrate myself to your maternal and Immaculate Heart, this Heart which is symbol of your life of love. You are the Mother of my Savior. You are also my Mother. You love me with a most special love as a member of Shepherds of Christ Associates, a movement created by your Son as a powerful instrument for the renewal of the Church and the world. In a return of love, I give myself entirely to your motherly love and protection. You followed Jesus perfectly. You are His first and perfect disciple. Teach me to imitate you in the putting on of Christ. Be my motherly intercessor so that, through your Immaculate Heart, I may be guided to an ever closer union with the pierced Heart of Jesus, Chief Shepherd of the flock."
