At the beginning of Mass we say
we are sorry, but if the basic respect
for authority is not there
— there is the
problem.
A child is to obey their parents
this is the fourth commandment. Today
authority is challenged
— the respect
for the pope, the president — they
are constantly discerned by those
under him.
Even the commands from God
are challenged and disobeyed. The Word
of God is criticized.
The Pope is the Pope why
don't we trust him.
God is in charge.
The Pope is in charge of the Church.
If we are always ready to fight
with our boss who pays us and we
try at every stance
— then we may
get fired.
There is not mutuality between
me and my boss
— usually. There
should not be this mutuality of
ours judging the pope.
We are to respect the pope's
position in the Church if I
am a Catholic.
Because we have had
this lack of respect for authority
in the world
—
Many people are always fighting
—
trying to get mutuality — then
comes fighting with authority —
challenging authority — there is
tension between many children
and parents —
They even watch cartoons
— with the
fight — the "under-dog" is made
powerful — over those in
authority —
children in shows are made
smart, parents — not so smart —
The focus is empowering those
under authority
— to being wiser
than those in authority —
Basic trust for authority is challenged.
Letting go and trusting God is not
emphasized.
And did not Christ show us how they
crucified the ultimate authority
—
King of heaven and earth and they
put Him to death
gave Him a crown of thorns
whipped the King
challenged Him.
Sunday's Gospel
John 18: 33-37
So Pilate went back into the Praetorium and called Jesus to him and asked him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ Jesus replied, ‘Do you ask this of your own accord, or have others said it to you about me?’ Pilate answered, ‘Am I a Jew? It is your own people and the chief priests who have handed you over to me: what have you done?’ Jesus replied, ‘Mine is not a kingdom of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men would have fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. As it is, my kingdom does not belong here.’

Look at how Mary is dishonored
by many.
Mary appeared so beautiful in
rainbow color
—
The sign of the covenant
— in
rainbow color and
Mary's head was knocked off
Should we challenge authority
—
Should children be taught by
the television to challenge
parents.
Are basic rights challenged
— like
the baby in the womb that is
aborted.
Did you ever think a day like today
would come when people would murder
a baby in the womb for their own inconvenience.
How are our priests treated because
some have sinned?
This great gift God gives us.
How are we in trusting
—
trust worthy others —
those over us?
do we always challenge and never
just obey like we should —
Do we constantly challenge the
Church?
How were the apostles Christ picked?
Did they have a degree from a
high faluting institution
—
And yet they are responsible for
bringing us the Word of God.
They had to fight many to do their
work
—
Look at Adam and Eve in the garden
—
they wanted to be equal to God —
Is this not the same flaw in the
human nature today when
we challenge the pope and the
Church.
Jesus loved His Heavenly Father
Jesus trusted His Heavenly Father
Jesus obeyed His Heavenly Father
Jesus served His Heavenly Father
Today in an institution, a family, we
can serve as Jesus for the
good of souls, for the honor and
glory of God
— respecting
authority and being in the light
bearing fruit, obeying the
Commandments and living by God's
Word.
We can fight
— always fight the
authority — do things for our own
honor and glory — disobey, not trust
those over us, i.e., parents, the pope —
When we fail to see anybody right over us
—
we have a big problem —
we have reduced ourselves to
building the whole thing — OURSELVES —
that's a big job isn't it —
to carry the responsibility for everything on
our shoulders —
We have a big load to haul
WE THINK.
We are right.
We are in control
and THAT is the pay off
— WE DON'T TRUST
anyone to be over us.
The wise person
— believes God
works in structure.
God gives us the Church —
God gives us the pope —
God gives us parents
God gives us priests — Some may sin —
But the element of trusting authority
must be there
—
TRUST we must obey the commandments.
TRUST we live by the Word of God.
TRUST the pope.
People who are like Jesus are
good
holy
loving
Some people would trust the paper,
the news
— more than the
pope, the Church.
Do we follow the world.
Do we follow Jesus.
The Church was established by
Jesus to give grace
—
What is life?
How do I have a good caliber of life —
I trust authority
I trust the Church
I trust the pope
I obey the commandments —
I live by the Word of God.
I follow the way of the saints.
If we are on the top
— we are always
discerning — always testing —
trusting no one — including
the Church.
We have little time to meditate on the
mystery of the rosary
—
we are too busy testing everything —
Look at the Passion of Jesus —
The Son of God was surrounded by
angry men and condemned to death
who was right? Jesus or the men.
The Son of God was whipped by men
who was right? Jesus or the men.
The Son of God was crowned with
thorns
who was right? Jesus or the men
who crowned Him.
When a ship sails on a big ocean
— all
alone with no connection with anyone —
wanting to have a little island
a float —
It is a lonely road —
a wavy life —
All of a certain group of individuals
boarded a boat to be free
— They were
united in this — they were sick of people
that were imperfect telling them what to
do.
They took provisions for the journey —
At long last they were in the middle of
the vast ocean and it was quiet
— all one
could hear was the thrashing waves against
the boat — it was so peaceful —
One man brought a lot of wine and
began to drink and get drunk
— he
began to yell —
Another woman got mad at something
some one said and was screaming
—
Another man hit some other guy
And on and on and on ...
And the little boat now bulged
with the imperfections of those on
board
—
Where they thought they would live in
perfect peace and harmony was utter
pandemonium because of the imperfect
men.
What should we do
— one said —
throw the trouble makers over board?
A wise man of them all (but not too wise
or he would not be on the journey said)
No in time they will mostly all act-up
and no one will be left to do the
duties of caring for the boat and
we will all die —
Let's go back to the land and
work among the people we left
— for
we have the same problems here on this
boat as we had there.
A priest once said that about a
church
— we need to work here on the
problems — rather than think of
leaving and think things will be
different somewhere else.
God gives us our family
— We
are related by blood — a mom, a
dad, children — how many 2 year
olds would have left for not getting
their way — if they could have —
We have permanent ties in the
family
— dad and mom are in charge —
children are children —
God set it up that way —
They came into the world helpless —
Mom and dad are bigger —
the children depend on mom and dad
for life.
the children come from mom's
body.
Is there not a big lesson in this —
How we come from God
—
our creator and
We are dependent on Him
for our life
—
But out of great love for us —
God gives us a free will —
To choose what He wants.
But we can make ourselves supreme
—
like Adam and Eve tried to do in
the garden.
God teaches us about so many things
—
a family is forced to work together —
forgive and love because of the
blood connection (some may not,
but most families work together — we
all have a mother and father).
Look at the fig tree.
See it bear fruit.
Look at the wormy apple.
See how a worm can eat the apple
and make it rotten
—
What of the snake in the garden —
Man can eat the forbidden fruit
—
disobedience to God
disobedience to authority
LYING
PRIDE
JEALOUSY
ANGRY HATING of others
ENVY
POSSESSIVENESS
GREED
Are these and more not forbidden fruits
—
like a worm eating an apple to
the core — and it gets rotten —
The devil can tempt us to give into
our imperfect ways, but we
cannot in the end bear
fruit if we do not adhere to
authority
— trust — love.
I can carry the weight of the world on
my shoulders and
then I can think I am in control —
I can judge how I will use
the commandments, my way,
I think and then I am in control.
I can interpret the scriptures
my way and then I am in control.
I can make cartoons that make
right
— wrong
and wrong
— right
to confuse children and then I
am hurting people —
I can give into worldly ways and
form my moral code by
imperfect others —
sex out of marriage —
improper clothing —
lying —
greed —
deceit
and I am working against
building God's Kingdom.
I can use others for my own personal
gain and then I can rationalize why I am right.
A holy person is one who is like
Jesus
— who loves to be like Jesus —
who does not listen to the snake
by the apple tree and the negative
tapes in their head.
Not recognizing good authority
—
not obeying the commandments —
is not loving oneself and others —
God works in structure.
Look at the babies
— God gives
to parents — they are little — dependent —
they need the parents for eating and changing —
Jesus came a baby —
The Son of God — born a baby
inside of a human person —
what is the lesson in this??
Why are we so high and mighty.
Jesus was under Mary and Joseph.
What is the lesson in this?
I heard the Lord say
"Who will I send?
Who will go?
And I said
"Here I am
— Send me."
We can live by the truth —
We can follow Jesus —
Jesus says "I am the way, the truth
and the life."
God gave us a sign —
the Son of God came a baby in
the womb of Mary.
Where is our humility?
Do we do things for God's honor and glory
or ours.
Isaiah 9: 2-3
You have enlarged the nation, you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you as people rejoice at harvest time,
as they exult when they are dividing the spoils. For the yoke that weighed on it, the bar across its shoulders,
the rod of its oppressor,
these you have broken as on the day of Midian.
Isaiah 9: 6-7
to extend his dominion in boundless peace,
over the throne of David and over his kingdom
to make it secure and sustain it
in fair judgement and integrity. From this time onwards and for ever,
the jealous love of Yahweh Sabaoth will do this. The Lord has launched a word at Jacob
and it has fallen on Israel;
Isaiah 11: 2-3
On him will rest the spirit of Yahweh,
the spirit of wisdom and insight,
the spirit of counsel and power,
the spirit of knowledge
and fear of Yahweh:
his inspiration will lie in fearing Yahweh.
His judgement will not be
by appearances.
his verdict not given on hearsay.
Isaiah 11: 5-6
Uprightness will be
the belt around his waist,
and constancy the belt about his hips. The wolf will live with the lamb,
the panther lie down with the kid,
calf, lion and fat–stock beast together,
with a little boy to lead them.
Isaiah 11: 12
He will hoist a signal for the nations
and assemble the outcasts of Israel;
he will gather the scattered people
of Judah
from the four corners of the earth.
Isaiah 12: 1-4
And, that day, you will say:
‘I praise you, Yahweh,
you have been angry with me
but your anger is now appeased
and you have comforted me.
Look, he is the God of my salvation:
I shall have faith and not be afraid,
for Yahweh is my strength and my song,
he has been my salvation.’Joyfully you will draw water
from the springs of salvation
and, that day, you will say,
‘Praise Yahweh, invoke his name.
Proclaim his deeds to the people,
declare his name sublime.
Isaiah 14: 3
When that day comes, and Yahweh gives you rest from your suffering and torment and the grim servitude to which you have been subjected,
