R. We see the Old Testament and the Plan of God.
                We see in the Gospel how Jesus fulfilled the plan
                and He came our Savior.

                    In this Isaiah scripture Jesus is the branch of the Lord.

                    Jesus is the Messiah –

                    Jesus protects us –

                    Jesus brings us to holiness.

                    We must endure the trial –

                    We must survive to follow God –

                We do not give into the trials of life
                    or the temptations of satan –

                A child comes into the world and may
                    grow up in a dysfunctional family –
                    He must rise above this and grow
                    in holiness.

                The Father is the perfect Father –
                    The child loves His Father and can obey
                    the Father and be a light showing how
                    God the Father wants him to be –
                    We must endure the trials of life –
                    We must grow in holiness –
                    We must fight the good fight and
                        endure as we are building the
                        Kingdom of God and
                        spreading the Good News.

                It is up to us.

                God protects us.

                Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament.

                Jesus shows us how He survived the
                    trials of life and how He lived
                    in love to serve the heavenly Father.

                Jesus showed us service.
                Jesus showed us sacrifice.
                Jesus showed us love.
                Jesus showed us perfection and holiness.

                Do we walk in the footprints of Jesus
                    living according to the plan of our
                    heavenly Father?

                Do we see that this is the way Jesus lived?

                Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

                We are the sons of God.

                We must endure the trials and live
                    to be more and more perfect as our
                    heavenly Father is perfect –

                We grow in holiness –

                We endure the trials of life and we
                    are blessed by God the Father –

                He has a place for us in heaven –
                Our heavenly reward for living
                    according to the plan of the
                    heavenly Father.

                Jesus is our model –

                Mary is the perfect handmaid of the
                    Lord.

                We see how men had to survive the exile
                    in salvation history and how
                    they were led out.

                We say to God –
                I am an unworthy servant –

                ‘Sir, I am not worthy to have you

                just give the word and my servant

                We see respect of God's power in the Gospel –
                We see respect of authority –
                We see humility in the Gospel
                    (not pride)

                We see the centurion's faith.

                There is a discussion of authority and servants –

                We see we are to be servants of God –
                    to have faith –
                    to come and go as God wants us
                    as a servant to be –

                Jesus says

                    ‘In truth I tell you, in no one in Israel
                    have I found faith as great as this.
                    And I tell you that many will come
                    from east and west and sit down
                    with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob
                    at the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;'
                                            Matthew 8

                Jesus came in a manger –

                Jesus took flesh –

                Today God gives us baptism – we
                    receive a sharing in His life –

                Jesus comes to us more and more in
                    grace – Jesus gives us a
                    greater sharing in His life –

                Jesus comes to us today – in the sacraments –
                    in grace –

                We long for this grace –

                We long for Jesus to fill us more and more
                    abundantly –

                R. We receive a sharing in His life in baptism,
                    but we receive Him more and more
                    abundantly as He fills us with
                    His grace more and more and more –

                Come Lord Jesus fill us with Your grace –
                    fill us more abundantly –

                    Father wants us to be
                    Christ in the world –

                    and love and walk with the Lord –
                    even in trial, our hearts are
                    full of God's love and we have
                    peace in Him – even in suffering –

                We come out of the dysfunction
                    of our past life to grow in
                    holiness – more and more likened
                    to Jesus –
                    in the image and likeness of God.

A shoot will spring 
    from the stock of Jesse, 
a new shoot will grow from his roots. 
On him will rest the spirit of Yahweh, 
the spirit of wisdom and insight, 
the spirit of counsel and power, 
the spirit of knowledge 
    and fear of Yahweh: 
his inspiration will lie in fearing Yahweh. 
His judgement will not be 
    by appearances. 
his verdict not given on hearsay. 
He will judge the weak with integrity 
and give fair sentence 
    for the humblest in the land. 
He will strike the country 
    with the rod of his mouth 
and with the breath of his lips 
    bring death to the wicked. 

Uprightness will be 
    the belt around his waist, 
and constancy the belt about his hips. 

The wolf will live with the lamb, 
the panther lie down with the kid, 
calf, lion and fat–stock beast together, 
with a little boy to lead them. 
The cow and the bear will graze, 
their young will lie down together. 
The lion will eat hay like the ox. 
The infant will play 
    over the den of the adder; 
the baby will put his hand 
    into the viper’s lair. 
No hurt, no harm will be done 
on all my holy mountain, 
for the country will be full 
    of knowledge of Yahweh 
as the waters cover the sea.

That day, the root of Jesse, 
    standing as a signal for the peoples, 
will be sought out by the nations 
    and its home will be glorious.

Luke 10: 21-24

Just at this time, filled with joy by the Holy Spirit, he said, ‘I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children. Yes, Father, for that is what it has pleased you to do. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.’ Then turning to his disciples he spoke to them by themselves, 'Blessed are the eyes that see what you see, for I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see, and never saw it; to hear what you hear, and never heard it.'

                R. Jesus fulfilled what the heavenly Father
                    wanted of Him.

                We hunger for God's grace in us:
                Going to the Eucharist, doing adoration –
                God gives to the man who seeks Him –
                Man must beg for His grace, hunger
                    after His grace –
                We long for God's grace –
                We prepare ourselves for Christmas –
                We want God to fill us –
                    to come to us –
                    to be the Lord of our hearts – 

1 Corinthians 4: 5

For that reason, do not judge anything before the due time, until the Lord comes; he will bring to light everything that is hidden in darkness and reveal the designs of all hearts. Then everyone will receive from God the appropriate commendation.

                R. We see God prepares for His faithful
                    the heavenly banquet –

                It is a banquet –
                    God feeds us –
                    God fills us with His grace

                We see in the Gospel how compassionate
                    Jesus was – He healed the sick,
                    the mute, the blind, the
                    lame, the deformed –

                We see ourselves going to Jesus and being
                    filled by Him – filled with Him –
                    filled by His grace –
                    and we go out and operate in love
                    and compassion as servants
                    of the Lord –
                    We go out –
                    We are open –
                    Not frozen and closed down
                        in selfish pride and jealousy and
                        anger and envy and slothfulness –

Matthew 15: 29-37

Jesus went on from there and reached the shores of the Lake of Galilee, and he went up onto the mountain. He took his seat, and large crowds came to him bringing the lame, the crippled, the blind, the dumb and many others; these they put down at his feet, and he cured them. The crowds were astonished to see the dumb speaking, the cripples whole again, the lame walking and the blind with their sight, and they praised the God of Israel.

But Jesus called his disciples to him and said, ‘I feel sorry for all these people; they have been with me for three days now and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them off hungry, or they might collapse on the way.’ The disciples said to him, ‘Where in a deserted place could we get sufficient bread for such a large crowd to have enough to eat?’ Jesus said to them, ‘How many loaves have you?’ They said, ‘Seven, and a few small fish.’ Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks he broke them and began handing them to the disciples, who gave them to the crowds. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they collected what was left of the scraps, seven baskets full.

                R. We are filled with joy when we
                go out and live our lives to love
                and serve God and others. We are
                generous in our hearts –

Prayer from St. Ignatius

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;   
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing
                    that I am doing your will.

                R. We have one life to live – to withstand

                Who is blind?

                    to bring light and life to the world.

                    God is with us.

                    The incarnation goes on in us.
