Matthew 22: 36-40
'Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?' Jesus said to him, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets too.'
Dear Holy Spirit, strengthen our will and
move like a Divine breath in our soul, to
be docile sons and daughters of our
Heavenly Father. Amen.
Alleluia.

Sorrowful Mysteries

The Agony in the Garden
1. Jesus took Peter,
James and John into the garden. Jesus saw before Him the sins of the
whole human race. Jesus knew how He would suffer, in His Divine
knowing. Jesus said "yes" because He loves us so much.
2. Adam and Eve listened to the devil, the devil is the Father of
lies.
3. The devil tempted Eve in the Garden.
4. The devil told Eve if she disobey God, she could be equal to God.
5. Sin offends God who created us and is all worthy of our love.
6. The bad angels said they would not serve God.
7. In the Garden Jesus knew all that would happen in the bitter
Passion and He sweat blood.
8. Jesus is the New Adam, He said "Not My will, but Thine be done.
Jesus’ will was perfectly aligned with His Father’s will.
Jesus said “yes”.
9. Mary always obeyed the will of God, if carrying a pebble or a
boulder. Mary is the New Eve.
10. Jesus told the Apostles to pray and they slept. He tried to wake
them 3 times to pray.

The Scourging at the Pillar
1. They bound Jesus to
a pillar and men took turns whipping Him. Jesus was whipped like
this for our sins.
2. The devil is the Father of lies. The devil tempts men to disobey
God, put their will before what the Father is calling them to do.
3. The devil is relentless. They kept whipping Jesus on His already
wounded skin. They treated Jesus, not with respect and dignity, but
with violence and anger and abuse. Jesus did nothing wrong. Jesus
was the innocent Lamb, led to the slaughter.
4. Jesus was whipped on top of old wounds and torn flesh by these
evil men, and Jesus’ skin so boldly wounded by the anger of these
men - Jesus bled and bled and bled.
5. Jesus was forced to take their abuse and violence. Jesus was
bound at the pillar as they whipped Jesus who could not move.
6. Satan tries to tempt men to act out anger and hatred on innocent
others.
7. God created us in the image of Jesus to love and forgive and have
mercy. Who is in our heart? Who owns our heart?
8. Jesus paid for our sins with all these lashes because God loves
us so much and wants us in heaven with Him forever.
9. God created us in love to someday go to our Heavenly Father,
forever in heaven.
10. God gave us a free will so we would freely love and serve Him.
Freedom is in doing God’s will.

The Crowning with Thorns
1. After they had
brutally scourged Jesus at the pillar, they mocked Him as a King,
they gave Him a dirty, purple robe, a scepter, and pounded a crown
of thorns into His head.
2. Roses are beautiful, yet roses have thorns.
3. Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus is the Son of
God.
4. They blasphemed Jesus, mocked Jesus, spit on Jesus, and wacked
Jesus’ precious crowned head of thorns.
5. Jesus shed the last drop of His Blood and gave the last beat of
His Heart for love of us. Jesus gave His all.
6. The Mass is the sacrifice of Calvary, sacramentally made present.
7. We unite in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with Jesus and offer
ourselves in purity to our Heavenly Father.
8. Jesus loved the men so dearly that abused Him and these men
brought violence on Jesus.
9. Many people today treat Jesus with no respect.
10. God is love. We are commanded to love God and others as
ourselves.

The Carrying of the Cross
1. Jesus in carrying
the cross felt abandoned and fell under the heavy cross, but love
for us, "His Beloved" consumed Him, because He wanted us with Him
forever in heaven.
2. Jesus carried the heavy cross laden with our sins.
3. Mary could hardly stand to walk the way with Jesus. Can you
imagine her sorrow in watching this happen to her Son?
4. Mary rocked Jesus as a baby. Hear the thumping of the cross as He
walked!!! Mary, Oh Mary… I am sorry.
5. When I go to Mass, I offer a sacrifice. God wants our all. He
wants to be first in our life. He asked Abraham to sacrifice his
son.
6. Jesus suffered so during the passion. He was bound, whipped at
the pillar, crowned with thorns! He could have stopped every-thing,
but He endured the suffering for our sins.
7. Think of laying your crowned head of thorns on the pillow.
8. In the Mass, we offer ourselves to the Father, united to Jesus,
in the Holy Spirit. God outpours His blessings to us, we become
greater one in Him in the Mass.
9. The Mass is the perfect sacrifice we offer to the Father, in
which God pours out His blessings, and we are one with Him, and with
all others in a profound expression of love.
10. Jesus went with love for us, love for His Father, to the cross
to pay for our sins. Jesus consumed with Divine love, emptied
Himself, gave Himself, suffered abuse, violence, rejection and
death, so we could live and share in His life in Baptism and be one
in Him.

The Crucifixion
1. ...The endurance is
seen by Jesus when we meditate how He endured the suffering, how He
gave the last beat of His Heart. He never gave up, Jesus beaten and
worn went to the hill of Calvary and was stripped of His garments,
arms and legs stretched and nailed to the cross, then the cross
pounded into a hole, as Jesus hung for 3 hours to His death.
2. This is an excerpt from the Mass Book and it goes
something like this, I see the man hanging on the cross and He does
not speak a word, for we do not hear the words that He speaks to us,
but we can study Him. Yes He hangs on the cross. We hear His message
loud and clear.
3. Jesus came so we would have life, life in Him.
4. Jesus gives us Himself in the Holy Eucharist and He wants our
love, so we should give our love to Him.
5. Jesus died a brutal death so that we could be forgiven for our -
sins. Jesus loves us so much to endure all He did in the bitter
passion.
6. Jesus wants our love. Jesus wants us to open our hearts to Him.
Jesus wants to be our best friend. Jesus knows when we suffer, and
Jesus is always there loving us.
7. Study the crucifix and think about how much Jesus suffered for
us. Jesus I love You so much, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, I love You
so much.
8. From Blue Book 15
The Sacrifice of Calvary is sacramentally made present in the Mass.
When we pray the Morning Offering Prayer, united to the Holy
Sacrifice of the Mass, we act as intercessors, pleading to God that
great graces be released all day through our prayerful actions as we
act in love according to the Father’s will. Whether we are eating,
taking care of a sick parent, enjoying time spent with a friend,
working at our job, we can help bring down great graces for the
world.
9. Jesus was crucified with a thief on each side. One was sorry, one
would not budge!!
10. Mary stood beneath the cross of her Son, and her heart was in
such pain for she saw Him before her eyes. She saw Him covered with
blood. She saw Him die. Think of how terrible her sufferings were.
She couldn't do anything.

Guiding Light homily series — Reflect on the Word — Cycle B The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $10 |

Guiding Light homily series — Steadfast to the Son — Cycle A The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $10 |

Guiding Light — Focusing on the Word — Cycle B At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $10 |

Guiding Light — Feed My Soul — Cycle C In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $10 |
