Prayer for Grace for our Country
Dear Father united to Jesus in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Sacrifice of Calvary sacramentally made present, celebrated around the world, in the Holy Spirit. We offer up all we do united to the Mass. We unite in one mind and one heart as members of the mystical body of Christ, with Christ our head in the pure and holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary, through the powerful intercession of Mary with all the angels and saints and souls in purgatory, and we beg for the saving grace, for our country, the United States. Please help us. We further pray for unity to always do the will of God in love. We spread the Blood of Jesus on the leaders and people of the United States and cast the devil into hell. We consecrate our country to the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart and all our dioceses, and beg for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. God help us. We pray for our families, the priests, the Church and the world. In the Name of Jesus please hear us, we pray. We pray for our old president as he leaves office and our new president as he takes office.

R. God gives. We know God has given to us abundantly.
God gives love. We were created in the image and
likeness of God. Since God has made us in His image
and likeness we can more and more give
in generosity and love according to the Plan of our
heavenly Father.
Mary shows us her selflessness –
Priestly Newsletter Book II - September/October 1997
In all this Mary offers an example. Selfishness was totally foreign to her. She did not belong to herself. She belonged to God. She was not closed in upon herself. She was completely open to God. When God spoke, she listened. When God pointed the way, she followed. She realized that life is not a process a person masters by carefully mapping out one's own self-conceived plans of conquest, but a mystery to be gradually experienced by being open to God's personal and loving guidance.
Selfishness, then, did not close Mary off from God's call. Neither did fear. God asked her to assume a tremendous responsibility. He asked her to be the Mother of Jesus. Mary did not engage in a process of false humility and say that such a great role was above her. She did not say that she did not have the proper qualifications for this awesome mission. Briefly, she did not waste time looking at herself, making pleas that she was not worthy, telling the angel he had better go look for someone else. No, Mary did not look at herself. Her gaze was absorbed in God. She fully realized that whatever God asked of her, His grace would accomplish. She fully realized that although she herself had to cooperate, this work was much more God's than hers.
Mary's words, then, truly sum up what is the authentic Christian response at any point of life, in any kind of situation: "I am the handmaid of the Lord," said Mary, "let what you have said be done to me".
Genesis 1: 26-27
God said, ‘Let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves, and let them be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle, all the wild animals and all the creatures that creep along the ground.’
God created man in the image of himself,
in the image of God he created him,
male and female he created them.
R. God is over us. We are under God. God created us
in His image and likeness and gave us a free will.
We can love God and recognize our dependence on
God or we can disobey the heavenly Father's plan
for us and seek INDEPENDENCE from God's
Plan - filling our heart with the deeds we have
done in rejecting Him and seeking this INDEPENDENCE.
If we follow God the Father's Plan for us
we live to seek His will and to know our place
under Him. He is our Master and we seek
to be disciplined and obedient to God.
St. Ignatius tells us about the First Principle and
Foundation. When I did the St. Ignatius retreat with
Fr. Carter for 8 days I meditated on 4 meditations
every day during retreat from the St. Ignatius
Spiritual Exercises. Each meditation
was for an hour. There was a prep prayer
to pray for the grace needed to understand the
meditation.
This is the Purpose of the St. Ignatius Spiritual
Exercises.
From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius,
by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. p.1121. SPIRITUAL EXERCISES
Which have as their purpose the conquest of self
and the regulation of one's life in such a way that
no decision is made under the influence of any
inordinate attachment
R. There can be some attachment we hold onto –
another Jesuit called it a pondus.
EIGHT-DAY RETREAT
Based
on The Spiritual Exercise of St. Ignatius
by
Francis Xavier McMenamy S.J.
edited
by William J. Grace, S.J.
18. The Three Classes of Men
St. Ignatius assumes that the spiritual life, in as far as we live it, consists in finding God in all things, that is, in recognizing the holy will of God and in embracing the known will of God. Advancement in the supernatural life means therefore a fuller and more complete finding of God in the details of one's life. Now the Exercises are designed and so constructed as to assist one in finding God either in his vocation in life or in some detail of his life.
The Saint further assumes that what hinders the soul from finding God is some ill-regulated attachment—a "pondus," as he calls it, or dead weight — which holds back the soul from embracing God's will, or even recognizing it. Hence what the Exercises aim at primarily is to remove this "pondus" or attachment. For if this impediment is put out of the way the sincere soul will surely find God; that is, it will recognize and embrace the will of God for the right ordering of its life. This purpose of the retreat is made clear from the very beginning. For just prior to the statement of the First Principle and Foundation we find the heading, "Spiritual Exercises to conquer oneself and regulate one's life, and to avoid coming to a determination through any inordinate affection."
All the exercises of the retreat which we have followed up to the present are directed toward the removal of attachments. To this end we have searched for incentives based on reason, on fear, and on love. Love of Christ, which is the more excellent way for a Christian, is also the normal way provided by Providence for overcoming disordered attachments to creatures and finding God in peace. Hence, after the few exercises which are given in the First Week, the Ignatian retreat consists for the most part in contemplation of Christ. This contemplation has as its purpose to engender in the heart of the exercitant an ardent personal love of our Lord. We seek that quality of love which insures courage and complete sincerity in setting aside impediments or attachments by the time when the election or choice is reached.
The meditation on The Kingdom of Christ enkindled love in our souls, and thereupon we made a generous offering of ourselves for the service of the King. Subsequent consideration of the mysteries of Christ's child-life has deepened our love and the generosity of our offering. In The Two Standards our Lord made plain what is His way of a perfect life for a son of God on earth. It is the way of the Holy Cross, of poverty, and of humiliation. Our response to the Master's plea was a deliberate and intensive petition that He might deign to take us with Him in His way of poverty and humiliation.

Given December 10, 2015
R. We must be willing to accept
humiliations properly. We see Jesus
how He allowed Himself to withstand
the sufferings of the Passion.
If we study Jesus, we see how
we are to be. Jesus was loving in
His ways, He was compassionate,
He was deeply united to all.
We see He knew the woman at
the well, He knew Mary Magdalene
and her sins, He wrote in the sand
the sins of others when they wanted
to stone a woman.
Jesus in these instances showed
us He knew.
We know how He suffered at the
Agony of the Garden – He saw
before Him all the sins of the
human race and He saw those
who reject the grace they were
given and because of their
willfulness continue to live
in sin.
God's message is not a secret
or hard to decipher – it is the
command to love God above
all things and love our
neighbor as ourselves –
We because of willfulness can
choose a road that is very unloving,
putting ourselves and our desires
above God – ie. making ourselves a
life - long victim for a person
who is given great blessings is
the desire of that person to
choose darkness to light –
unforgiveness to forgiveness –
God wants us to spread the
Good News – to work to build –
to work with others in the
building of the Kingdom –
Yesterday, Jesus told me to write
about Fr. Carter – despite his quietness
he was connected – he went out –
he hugged – he gave signs of unity –
he never showed signs of selfishness
or self-enclosure –
He was a witness for Jesus –
I watch my brother – how
selfless he is – he cares so much
for others – he wants to give all
he can in his parish – I hear
his heart in Mass – He is
one with God – heartfelt in
the moment and one with the people –
I guess it is shame-based, I am
not up on words in psychology.
But a person can be locked inside
themselves in some trauma that
they need healing and do not work
through –
How much are we free in
ourselves to be about the work
God calls us to –
By free – we see the goal –
we are filled with faith to see
the Father's Plan, His vision,
and our goal is eternal happiness
with every action we perform –
We live responsibly – because we
know our lives belong to God – we
have put Him first in our life –
We love Him and we don't want
to offend Him, but serve Him.
We see Christ was whipped etc. –
Matthew 27: 28-30
And they stripped him and put a scarlet cloak round him, and having twisted some thorns into a crown they put this on his head and placed a reed in his right hand. To make fun of him they knelt to him saying, 'Hail, king of the Jews!' And they spat on him and took the reed and struck him on the head with it.
R. But He did what
His Father wanted Him to do.
Jesus reacted properly to
insults and humiliations.
Christ gave us an example.
Philippians 2: 5-8
Make your own the mind of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God,
did not count equality with God
something to be grasped. But he emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
becoming as human beings are;
and being in every way
like a human being,
he was humbler yet,
even to accepting death,
death on a cross.
R. Fortitude helps us to face maturely
the difficult. I saw this courage
in Jesus – to be all the Father wanted
Him to be. I saw fortitude in Fr. Carter,
no matter what the struggle he
showed courage and never
would he flee from his vision
as seen through the Father's eyes.
He prayed, he knew God was
with him always, He told me
he had a constant vision
of Jesus in him. He was
mystically married to God
he said. He said he had the
transforming union (mystical marriage),
that is how he lived – united so deeply
to God – God in him –
Courage is not just at a
heroic moment – courage is
found in the ordinariness of
every day life – we live to do
God's will – we do it in love –
in monotony, in
everydayness, we rest in Him
and enjoy the opportunity to do
so. He is the summit of our
lives. Our hearts skip a beat
to know God dwells in us and
loves us. We see God giving
to us beauty in our lives –
Our vision is light, beauty,
our hearts joy – We accept with
fervor the uneventful duties of
our vocation day in and day out –
Fortitude is the virtue of courage
to live in the strength of
the Lord, as He wills us to be.
This is a challenge to be constant
to seek the moment as God gives
it to us – living the ordinary
moments in peace – not being
addicted to manipulation for
drama and darkness –
Light – God is light –
God is love – God is peace –
God is with us now –
It takes fortitude, to not get in
the way of adult children's vocations –
our children that are grown
are not ours to possess. God
has a plan for their lives –
meddling parents in children's
lives that are grown is
blocking the vocation God wants
for them –
Some parents take over the
grandchildren – sometimes it
is necessary – sometimes they
need to rescue because of
their own meddling –
God wants us to live by His plan,
not because of fear of abandonment,
woundedness, control, manipulation,
making others slavishly dependent
on us is not God's plan –
God has called us to a particular
work in the building of the
Kingdom. We must pray to
have courage to live our lives
as God wants – not how we
hold onto in dysfunction –
just to live life in a mundane
way that functions, but is
not living by God's vision for
us and blocking His vision
for others.
We see how the alcoholic wife,
the mother of an adult drug
addicted child can be an
enabler and how the parent
can be forced after so much
suffering to detach, so the spouse
or adult child takes responsibility
for themselves and wants God's
will for themselves.
This takes fortitude, praying
for courage to be able to get
out of the enabling role –
People can be trained to be an
enabler from watching parents.
Example teaches many, many
lessons, lessons such as handling
things in anger – are passed
down in families – kindness
is shown in one who has
learned meekness in heart –
ways to manipulate can be
learned by an 18 month old
holding their breathe because
they don't want to go to bed,
but when adults escape
living and responsibilities and
truth because of fear of
abandonment, anger,
unhealed wounds –
they have to stop it because
they choose to stop bad behavior
tactics and pray for grace –
admit where they need healing –
not have relationships that
are destructive.
God gave us each other –
God puts spiritual directors,
people in our path to help
us. The devil wants a
person to isolate and to tell
himself he needs no one –
God wants us to trust Him
and learn to trust others who
He wants us to trust –
A wounded person may
never trust anyone, or a
person that will not help
them get out of family
dysfunction.
Those who are leaders
effect the lives of many.
If a person has a responsibility
to do their work in Church,
in government, in the family,
they hurt many others when they
decide they can do what they
want and ignore that responsibility.
Facing the difficult in life –
changing bad habits, dealing
correctly in difficulties with
right reasoning and actions
determined by our final goal
of pleasing God - takes courage –
takes wisdom, fortitude, virtuous
living and the gifts of the Holy Spirit –
Those involved in leadership,
politics, government, military
have to make decisions that may
demand courage and may not be
popular decisions.
Every person seeking to advance
in the spiritual life will at
times suffer many things that
can keep them from advancing.
St. Ignatius talks about being
attached inordinately to one
thing or several things –
From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius,
by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. p. 1121. SPIRITUAL EXERCISES
Which have as their purpose the conquest of self
and the regulation of one's life in such a way that
no decision is made under the influence of any
inordinate attachment
R. Another Jesuit called it
a "pondra" – it is an attachment
that we hold onto inordinately –
that keeps us from moving
forward in the spiritual
life.
Whatever it is we must pray
for fortitude. We know to grow
in the Christ-life – it is
difficult – very difficult
at times.
God has given us His grace
and infused in us this virtue
with that grace, but we have
a free will to choose God's
will or do what we want
opposed to God's will –
Adam and Eve opposed God's
will.
2 Corinthians 4: 7-10
The hardships and hopes of the apostolate
But we hold this treasure in pots of earthenware, so that the immensity of the power is God’s and not our own. We are subjected to every kind of hardship, but never distressed; we see no way out but we never despair; we are pursued but never cut off; knocked down, but still have some life in us; always we carry with us in our body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus, too, may be visible in our body.
R. Fortitude allows us to relate
properly to the difficult –
Temperance permits us to regulate
properly the pleasures in our lives –
Fr. Carter says "Temperance
moderates and controls the tendency
we have toward sense - pleasures.
In giving us this virtue, God has
actually provided for our greater
enjoyment of sense - pleasures.
For moderation increases our
capacity to enjoy."
Excerpt from Response in Christ by Fr. Edward J. Carter, S.J.
Other Christian Virtues (excerpt)
Since our two strongest inclinations in this matter of sense-pleasure are toward food and drink and the use of our sexual powers, temperance is especially concerned with these areas. Human experience emphasizes the great necessity of this virtue. God has attached great pleasure to the functions of taste and sex precisely because the preservation of the human race depends on them. Because of the type of pleasure connected with taste and sex, a lack of control here can lead to grave excesses and create great obstacles to the Christian life. As regards excesses involving the palate, the obvious one is the misuse of alcoholic beverages. In numerous cases the abuse of strong drink is due to the disease of alcoholism. It is not to our purpose to discuss this problem here. There already exist many fine treatments of this question which the interested reader can consult. ...

R. Obedience
Authority is aimed at building
up the Body of Christ –
It is concerned with developing
the Christ-life within the members
of the People of God –
God works in community in
the Church –
Community demands
authority to be followed –
Excerpt from Response in Christ by Fr. Edward J. Carter, S.J.
In describing the nature and purpose of authority in the Church, we have at the same time been discussing its necessity. In God's plan the role of authority in the Church is one which cannot be dispensed with. Consequently, if we do not relate properly through obedience to Church authority we will never achieve the desired maturity in Christ.
R. God has given us everything –
How can we repay for all God
has given to us –
We must see the gifts: natural
and supernatural God has given
to us.
We see ourselves as adopted
sons of the Father – We are
loyal to God the Father as
a son is to his Father –
We have affection for our
Father, we love Him so
much –
We are a child of God the Father,
God is over us –
Say Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
R. Jesus taught us to pray –
We thank You God –
We love You God –
Thank You for making us in
Your image and likeness.
We are Yours God –
God is great –
Sing: Glory, Glory, Glory Lord –
R. We love our Heavenly Father –
We see that God is worthy of
honor and
it is our duty to give God
honor.
Our actions should be actions
that honor our Heavenly
Father, since we are
His adopted sons –
Jesus showed us His love
given to His Father –
We see the first principle and foundation
of St. Ignatius' spiritual exercises.
From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius,
by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. p. 12
23. FIRST PRINCIPLE AND FOUNDATION
Man is created to praise, reverence and serve God
our Lord, and by this means to save his soul.
The other things on the face of the earth are created
for man to help him in attaining the end for which he
is created.Hence, man is to make use of them in as far as they
help him in the attainment of his end, and he must rid
himself of them in as far as they prove a hindrance to
him. Therefore, we must make ourselves indifferent to all
created things, as far as we are allowed free choice and
are not under any prohibition. Consequently, as far
as we are concerned, we should not prefer health to
sickness, riches to poverty, honor to dishonor, a long
life to a short life. The same holds for all other things. Our one desire and choice should be what is more
conducive to the end for which we are created.
R. The Holy Spirit helps us to have this
filial affection for our Father.
We see our relation with our
relations and we see
we are the adopted
sons of God.
All our men are our brothers –
God is our Father
This love of God the Father and
filial affection for our
Father helps us to trust –
Matthew 18: 3
Then he said, ‘In truth I tell you, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven.
Song: I Love You Jesus
R. Come Holy Spirit fill my heart with love –
Sing: Glory Be
R. Most Holy Heart of Jesus

priests and the Church and the world.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus You are the
fountain of every blessing,
I love You so much,
I worship You,
I adore You
Please help me to be humble
and obedient to God's will –
give me courage to do
the will of God –
give me prudence and
temperance –
Help me – protect me and my family
from danger –
help me to love You and others
more –
Give me the grace of a holy death.
Sing: Glory Be
R. Dear God, I want my heart to
be open and loving for
the Christ child –
Sing: The Prayer for Union
Song: Prayer for Union with Jesus
Sing: Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.
I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.
Sing: Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.
I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.
Sing: Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.
When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.
Sing: Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.
Say: Prayer for Intimacy with the Lamb
A Prayer for Intimacy with the Lamb, the Bridegroom of the Soul
Oh Lamb of God, Who take away the sins of the world, come and act on my soul most intimately. I surrender myself, as I ask for the grace to let go, to just be as I exist in You and You act most intimately on my soul. You are the Initiator. I am the soul waiting Your favors as You act in me. I love You. I adore You. I worship You. Come and possess my soul with Your Divine Grace, as I experience You most intimately.
Sing: Your Presence Pervades My Soul –
Isaiah 61: 10
I exult for joy in Yahweh,
my soul rejoices in my God,
for he has clothed me
in garments of salvation,
he has wrapped me in a cloak
of saving justice,
like a bridegroom wearing his garland,
like a bride adorned in her jewels.
Isaiah 62: 5
Like a young man marrying a virgin,
your rebuilder will wed you,
and as the bridegroom rejoices in his bride,
so will your God rejoice in you.
Sing: Glory Be
Luke 1: 46-55
And Mary said:
My soul proclaims
the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit rejoices
in God my Saviour;
because he has looked upon
the humiliation of his servant.
Yes, from now onwards
all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty
has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his faithful love extends age after age
to those who fear him.
He has used the power of his arm,
he has routed the arrogant of heart.
He has pulled down princes
from their thrones
and raised high the lowly.
He has filled the starving with good things,
sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the help
of Israel his servant,
mindful of his faithful love
—according to the promise
he made to our ancestors—
of his mercy to Abraham
and to his descendants for ever.
Sing: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Deuteronomy 4: 39-40
‘Hence, grasp this today and meditate on it carefully: Yahweh is the true God, in heaven above as on earth beneath, he and no other. Keep his laws and commandments as I give them to you today, so that you and your children after you may prosper and live long in the country that Yahweh your God is giving you for ever.’
Sing: Come Holy Ghost
Humbly let us voice our homage –
Sing: Tantum Ergo
Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Guiding Light homily series — Reflect on the Word — Cycle B The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $15 |
Guiding Light homily series — Steadfast to the Son — Cycle A The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15 |
Guiding Light — Focusing on the Word — Cycle B At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15 |
Guiding Light — Feed My Soul — Cycle C In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15 |
Guiding Light — The Word Alive in Our Hearts. — Cycle A (partial) Homilies by the Reverend Joe Robinson given at St. Boniface Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is a tremendous honor Fr. Joe has allowed us to share these great gifts with you – for greater holiness and knowing more and more about God. $10 |

Priestly Newsletter — 2000 #1 — CD. — Christ is Our Strength — Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. It is so beautiful. "This brief passage contains one of the greatest lessons of the spiritual life. As we progress along our spiritual journey, we become increasingly aware of how weak we are in our—selves, but how strong we are in Christ. To experience our weakness involves suffering. The degree and kind of suffering can vary. The suffering can include the experience of the classical dark night of the spirit as described by St. John of the Cross. One of the main purposes of the dark night is to make a person keenly aware of his or her helplessness without God." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10 |
