There are as many hearts as there are faces
See Mother Teresa as a baby
See Hitler as a baby
What makes one person act one way
and another person act another way
People cannot live a life with others with no discipline,
no give and take
Only in isolation can people exist who want their own way
unless they use force on the other — anger, passive-aggressive
behavior to force their way
Two children playing one has a toy the other demands it — force can be used
one child hitting or biting another
A person not in authority can demand to be in control can be of the type
who will not change and will not work with others
Dignity — to be the ideal self —
see through the eyes of God — realize they are under God
Eve wanted to be equal to God
Always journeying to heaven —
always doing God's will
always living by God's plan
rebellious holy
<———————————————>
wounded human nature
filled with more grace
more likened to Christ
Are you like Christ?
Do you want to do your own will?
Not God's will.
heaven with God <———————> hell with demons
God's will
own will opposed to God's will
We are here on a journey to obey God —
to be molded in the image and likeness of God
We can be willful like Eve
We can obey God like Jesus and Mary
All acts we do should be for a good end, to serve God according to His will in love
It is, for man, to accomplish his long journey
according to the vision of God, in walking in that
direction —
Purpose to love God
Purpose to love others as ourselves
NOT TO BE WILLFUL LIKE EVE
To die to self and grow to be like Jesus —
A foolish man, is willful like Eve —
filled with pride - keeps the imperfect image —
Distorted image of self
Distorted image of God
Distorted image of others
person does not see through God's eyes but through the wounded eyes of parents
person could have been shamed in childhood, may see themselves as inadequate,
may see themselves as clumsy,
may see themselves as not enough, through the parents' eyes they continue to
distort
the image of themselves, even in adulthood, 40, 50,
as they tell themselves of inadequacies seen through the eyes of imperfect
others —
who may have not intended to do them harm — but were imperfect themselves and
wrong —
in their handling of the children
a child can be shamed at 15 months —
and the parent may be unaware of how they may be hurting the child —
the self image of a child is developing at 18 months, 2 years,
when the child begins to see themselves interacting with others,
existing on the earth with others
When seeing oneself through the eyes of God, not imperfect others, parents,
teachers, etc. who shamed a child
but, seeing oneself more as the ideal self that God wants us to be as God sees
us —
in greater perfection as we grow in His image and likeness
Rightness or wrongness of human acts lead to
happiness or despair
Man who gives into satan and disobeys God — can
in giving into satan become enslaved as
he willingly gives into evil habits —
VICES — instead of virtues
Moses received the ten commandments —
Aaron, who was called to help Moses, was worshipping the molten calf
GOOD <————————> EVIL
OBEDIENCE
DISOBEDIENCE
obedience to God's will
disobedience to God's will
LOVE GOD FIRST
LOVE GOD AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER
LOVE OTHERS AS OURSELVES
Demanding our way, living isolated lives
not loving God and not loving others is not what God intends —
God intends us to walk hand in hand with others
growing in greater perfection, working with each other,
settling conflict to problems to do God's work
in love as He intends
If a person refuses to work with problems in settling conflicts the problem is
unresolved
and the person becomes a bigger problem blocking normal problems that need to be
solved
to serve God and do His work
1 John 5: 1-9
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ
is a child of God,
and whoever loves the father
loves the son.
In this way we know
that we love God’s children,
when we love God
and keep his commandments.
This is what the love of God is:
keeping his commandments.
Nor are his commandments
burdensome,
because every child of God
overcomes the world.
And this is the victory
that has overcome the world—
our faith.Who can overcome the world
but the one who believes
that Jesus is the Son of God?
He it is who came by water and blood,
Jesus Christ,
not with water alone
but with water and blood,
and it is the Spirit that bears witness,
for the Spirit is Truth.
So there are three witnesses,
the Spirit, water and blood;
and the three of them coincide.
If we accept
the testimony of human witnesses,
God’s testimony is greater,
for this is God’s testimony
which he gave about his Son.
John saw Jesus coming to him and said
"Behold the Lamb of God
who takes away the
sin of the world"
Mark 1: 7-11
In the course of his preaching he said, ‘After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, and I am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals. I have baptised you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’ It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John. And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, like a dove, descending on him. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.’
Here I am Lord I come to do
Your will —
Psalm 40: 6-8
You wanted no sacrifice or cereal offering,
but you gave me an open ear,
you did not ask for burnt offering or sacrifice for sin;
then I said, 'Here I am, I am coming.'In the scroll of the book it is written of me,
my delight is to do your will;
your law, my God,
is deep in my heart.
Jonah 3: 1-5, 10
The word of Yahweh was addressed to Jonah a second time. 'Up!' he said, 'Go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach to it as I shall tell you.' Jonah set out and went to Nineveh in obedience to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was a city great beyond compare; to cross it took three days. Jonah began by going a day's journey into the city and then proclaimed, 'Only forty days more and Nineveh will be overthrown.' And the people of Nineveh believed in God; they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least.
God saw their efforts to renounce their evil ways. And God relented about the disaster which he had threatened to bring on them, and did not bring it.
God has called us in the building in Clearwater
to help make reparation for the sins of the world
God has called us in China to make reparation
before the exposed Eucharist for the sins of the world
Mark 1: 14-20
After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from God saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.’
As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon’s brother Andrew casting a net in the lake—for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, ‘Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.’ And at once they left their nets and followed him.
Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in their boat, mending the nets. At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, they went after him.
Deuteronomy 18: 15-20
Yahweh your God will raise up a prophet like me; you will listen to him. This is exactly what you asked Yahweh your God to do—at Horeb, on the day of the Assembly, when you said, "Never let me hear the voice of Yahweh my God or see this great fire again, or I shall die." Then Yahweh said to me, "What they have said is well said. From their own brothers I shall raise up a prophet like yourself; I shall put my words into his mouth and he will tell them everything I command him. Anyone who refuses to listen to my words, spoken by him in my name, will have to render an account to me. But the prophet who presumes to say something in my name which I have not commanded him to say, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die."
Sing: If today you hear his voice hardened not your heart
Jesus: Walk not in darkness, but in the light —
I am unveiling to you insight into the hidden mysteries —
I impart to you the vision of God —
I am unveiling the working of satan in your lives
Those who listen will be wise.
R. Jesus drove out the unclean spirit —
He healed the sick —
healed the blind and the deaf —
the leper was healed.
Jesus forgives our sins in confession through the priest.
Job 7: 1-4, 6-7
"Isn't a man forced to labor on earth?
Aren't his days like the days of a hired hand?As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow,
As a hireling who looks for his wages,So am I made to possess months of misery,
Wearisome nights are appointed to me.When I lie down, I say,
'When shall I arise, and the night be gone?'
I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle,
And are spent without hope.Oh remember that my life is a breath.
My eye shall no more see good.
Where are we when God tells us we must repent —
This is a journey here to die to the selfish ways - to be like Jesus —
Are we loving? Are we like Jesus?
God: I gave Moses the 10 commandments
I command you to:
1) Love God first
2) Love others as yourself
R. Jesus says to not live an isolated path —
trying to prove we are right —
We all need conversion —
Jesus went into the desert and fasted for 40 days
Jesus wants us to follow Him
1 Corinthians 9: 16-19, 22-23
In fact, preaching the gospel gives me nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion and I should be in trouble if I failed to do it. If I did it on my own initiative I would deserve a reward; but if I do it under compulsion I am simply accepting a task entrusted to me. What reward do I have, then? That in my preaching I offer the gospel free of charge to avoid using the rights which the gospel allows me.
So though I was not a slave to any human being, I put myself in slavery to all people, to win as many as I could.
To the weak, I made myself weak, to win the weak. I accommodated myself to people in all kinds of different situations, so that by all possible means I might bring some to salvation. All this I do for the sake of the gospel, that I may share its benefits with others.
Song: Be with Me Lord
Jesus healed the leper
We can be made clean and have a clean heart.
Create in me oh God, a clean heart
Lord heal my soul for I have sinned against you
1 Peter 3: 18-22
Christ himself died once and for all for sins, the upright for the sake of the guilty, to lead us to God. In the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life, and, in the spirit, he went to preach to the spirits in prison. They refused to believe long ago, while God patiently waited to receive them, in Noah’s time when the ark was being built. In it only a few, that is eight souls, were saved through water. It is the baptism corresponding to this water which saves you now—not the washing off of physical dirt but the pledge of a good conscience given to God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has entered heaven and is at God’s right hand, with angels, ruling forces and powers subject to him.
Mark 1: 12-15
And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels looked after him.
After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from God saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.’
God put Abraham to the test —
to see if he would obey Him
God told Abraham because he obeyed —
He would make Abraham's descendents as numerous
as the stars in the sky
Song: If God is for Us
Jesus is the completion of the law and the prophets
Jesus took Peter, James and John up Mt. Tabor
Jesus was transfigured before them
They saw a cloud and from it heard "This is My Beloved Son, listen to Him."
The Ten Commandments
I, the Lord, am your God. You shall not have other gods besides me.
You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.
Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.
Romans 5: 1-2, 5-8
So then, now that we have been justified by faith, we are at peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; it is through him, by faith, that we have been admitted into God’s favour in which we are living, and look forward exultantly to God’s glory.
and a hope which will not let us down, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. When we were still helpless, at the appointed time, Christ died for the godless. You could hardly find anyone ready to die even for someone upright; though it is just possible that, for a really good person, someone might undertake to die. So it is proof of God’s own love for us, that Christ died for us while we were still sinners.
John 4: 13-14
Jesus replied:
Whoever drinks this water
will be thirsty again;
but no one who drinks the water
that I shall give
will ever be thirsty again:
the water that I shall give
will become a spring of water within,
welling up for eternal life.
Jesus is love
Love given lives on
God gives us babies — but we have original sin
except for Mary, she was sinless
Jesus gave us baptism a sharing in His life
Jesus came a baby in the world
Jesus gives Himself —
Jesus wants us to love - each other —
Not treat each other mean
from our wounded human nature —
Seeking dominance, jealousy, envious, lustful,
judge through our distorted vision,
react through our distorted vision,
blame others in our present life for our past wounds,
react out of our wounded past,
be selfish and not take the responsibility when we offend God and others,
continuing to wound others because of our selfishness and failure to grow in the
spiritual life,
not acting like Jesus and dying to the ways that are not likened to Him.
