R. The focus is God. We were
created for God – Only God
makes us happy.
R. I opened God's Blue Book 11
to many places. The focus was
first Fr. Joe's Books –
R. The Word and the Eucharist
the Bread of Life.
Then I opened the Blue Book 11
talking about the Father, Son and Holy
Spirit loving us. God is all that can
satisfy - really satisfy the
stalking soul –
Then the love of God –
Every place I opened Blue Book 11
focus –
God, love, the Mass,
the Bread of Life –
the love of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit –
What a gift God's Blue Book is.
From the message from God
we see – the focus is God –
we see the first commandment –
we see what God is telling
us.
God's Blue Book - a treasure –
Solid - focused on God –
what we crave – what we
were created for –
then everything else John 15: 1-8 I am the true vine,
takes its proper place –
Our lives rooted in God –
and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that bears no fruit
he cuts away,
and every branch that does bear fruit
to make it bear even more.
You are clean already,
by means of the word
that I have
spoken to you.
Remain in me, as I in you.
As a branch cannot bear fruit all by itself,
unless it remains part of the vine,
neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me, with me in him,
bears fruit in plenty;
for cut off from me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
is thrown away like a branch
—and withers;
these branches are collected
and thrown on
the fire
and are burnt.
If you remain in me
and my words remain in you,
you may ask for whatever you please
and you will get it.
It is to the glory of my Father
that you
should bear much fruit
and be my disciples.
R. David was a great King –
He wasn't perfect we know,
but he lived to love and
serve God –
Read the Psalms –
Psalm 23 Yahweh is my
shepherd, I lack nothing.
In grassy meadows he lets me lie.
By tranquil streams he leads me
to restore my spirit.
He guides me in paths of saving justice
as befits his name.
Even were I to walk in a ravine as dark as
death
I should fear no danger, for you are at my
side.
Your staff and your crook are there to
soothe me.
You prepare a table for me
under the eyes of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup brims over.
Kindness and faithful love pursue me
every day of my life.
I make my home in the house of Yahweh
for all time to come.
R. God loves us so much –
That is the message of the
Blue Books –
Keep your focus on God!
As I read Blue Book 12 – 3 months
before God the Father allowed
Mary to appear in Clearwater
I kept seeing the focus about
loving and being like Jesus
and not giving into division.
Satan wants division.
He can tempt us to just
be in the habit of dividing
thoughts - of seeing ourselves
as a victim - of looking at the
glass as 1/2 full, when God
is blessing us and loving us
and the problem is in our distorted
vision – the glass is more
than 1/2 full – we are the
ones seeing things through
a divided angry heart – we
can give into satan, and we
can develop habits of being
divided –
How we offend God - when
we call ourselves CHRISTIANS –
Christ-like and we
entertain thoughts of division
because we have been wounded –
and are a 1/2 empty type of
person –
How we offend God, when
we allow ourselves to be
so self-enclosed to whine
and have self-pity – when
we are so blessed –
Is the glass 1/2 empty or
1/2 full –
Fr. Carter loved this
Is Your Glass Half-Full or Half-Empty?
April 18, 1994 R. How is your day? Is your glass half-full or half-empty? This is the gauge to how you are feeling inside. Are you seeing all the blessings He is pouring out to you-your health, your food, your loved ones, all the blessings that you have each day? Or are you coming from a place of never having enough? Do you feel irritable and feel that nothing is right, that everything is wrong? Is the glass half-full or is it half-empty? Do you look for things that are right in your world or do you look for things that are wrong? Do you know that God gives to you exactly what you need and that it is in your acceptance of these things that you grow in your relationship with Him? Is the glass half-full or half-empty? Do I look at the world and see the love of God in my brothers? Do I look at the world and see the world as not giving to me? God has all you need. God provides us with our needs. The world is hurting. The world is not that by which we are filled. The world cries from its own pain. How can the world fill us? We crave the love of God. Our souls can only be satisfied by the love of God. When we see the world as a place that needs God's love, we come to the world with a full glass. How is your glass today? Is it half-full or half-empty? If you go to our beloved Jesus, He fills you with His love. His love is emitted from your very being. When you spend time with Him and remain fixed in Him, there is peace in His love. The biggest contribution you can give to yourself and this world is to busy yourself with your relationship with Jesus. Be an empty vessel (glass) ready to be filled by His love. end of April 18, 1994

Malachi 3: 1-4
‘Look, I shall send my messenger to clear a way before me. And suddenly the Lord whom you seek will come to his Temple; yes, the angel of the covenant, for whom you long, is on his way, says Yahweh Sabaoth. Who will be able to resist the day of his coming? Who will remain standing when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire, like fullers’ alkali. He will take his seat as refiner and purifier; he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they can make the offering to Yahweh with uprightness. The offering of Judah and Jerusalem will then be acceptable to Yahweh as in former days, as in the years of old.
Psalm 24: 7-10
Gates, lift high your heads,
raise high the ancient gateways,
and the king of glory shall enter!Who is he, this king of glory?
It is Yahweh, strong and valiant,
Yahweh valiant in battle.Gates, lift high your heads,
raise high the ancient gateways,
and the king of glory shall enter!Who is he, this king of glory?
Yahweh Sabaoth,
he is the king of glory. Pause
Hebrews 2: 14-18
Since all the children share the same human nature, he too shared equally in it, so that by his death he could set aside him who held the power of death, namely the devil, and set free all those who had been held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death. For it was not the angels that he took to himself; he took to himself the line of Abraham. It was essential that he should in this way be made completely like his brothers so that he could become a compassionate and trustworthy high priest for their relationship to God, able to expiate the sins of the people. For the suffering he himself passed through while being put to the test enables him to help others when they are being put to the test.
Luke 2: 22-40
And when the day came for them to be purified in keeping with the Law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord—observing what is written in the Law of the Lord: Every first–born male must be consecrated to the Lord—and also to offer in sacrifice, in accordance with what is prescribed in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. Now in Jerusalem there was a man named Simeon. He was an upright and devout man; he looked forward to the restoration of Israel and the Holy Spirit rested on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had set eyes on the Christ of the Lord. Prompted by the Spirit he came to the Temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God; and he said:
Now, Master, you are letting
your servant go in peace
as you promised;
for my eyes have seen the salvation
which you have made ready
in the sight of the nations;
a light of revelation for the gentiles
and glory for your people Israel. As the child’s father and mother were wondering at the things that were being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘Look, he is destined for the fall and for the rise of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is opposed—and a sword will pierce your soul too—so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.’
There was a prophetess, too, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was well on in years. Her days of girlhood over, she had been married for seven years before becoming a widow. She was now eighty–four years old and never left the Temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayer. She came up just at that moment and began to praise God; and she spoke of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem.
When they had done everything the Law of the Lord required, they went back to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. And as the child grew to maturity, he was filled with wisdom; and God's favour was with him.

INTRODUCTION
– (Malachi 3:1-4; Hebrews 2:14-18; Luke 2:22-40) Today’s feast is difficult to understand unless you know about a couple of Jewish laws. The first law you need to know about is that every first born male, whether it was a person or an animal was considered as belonging in a special way to God. You will find this written in the book of Exodus. If it was a male animal that was born, it was offered up as a sacrifice. If it was a baby boy, a sacrifice was offered for the child. The second Old Testament law we need to look at is in Leviticus. It stated that when a woman gave birth to a baby she was not permitted to participate in Temple worship for 40 days. After 40 days she had to go through a service of purification and offer a sacrifice so she would be admitted to public worship again. This explains why this feast is celebrated 40 days after Christmas.
Besides knowing about these two laws, the first reading from the prophet Malachi could use a little background explanation. The time is after the Babylonian exile was over and the Jews had returned to their homeland. They built a modest temple to replace the Temple of Solomon that the Babylonians destroyed. The Jews were negligent in their religious responsibilities. Their worship was sloppy and lacking in sincerity. Their attitude toward God’s laws was very lax. The people were in need of someone who would bring them back to a true love for God, back to obedience of God and back to sincere worship. The prophet foretold that God himself, in his love for his people, would come to his Temple to cleanse and purify his people and make them truly good and holy. Luke sees the Presentation in the Temple as a fulfillment of Malachi’s prophecy. It is truly the Lord who comes to the Temple when Jesus is brought there by Mary and Joseph. But we see such irony here. As a humble servant of God Mary comes to be purified, she who is “full of grace.” And according to the Law, she and Joseph offer a sacrifice, but their son, Jesus, would eliminate the need for any future animal sacrifices, since he would give his life as a perfect sacrifice that will save the whole world.
HOMILY
– Why should Mary be purified and a sacrifice be offered? St. Luke tells us it is because Joseph and Mary were in every way faithful to their religion. Notice how many times St. Luke speaks of Joseph and Mary fulfilling the law of the Lord. The canticle of the holy man Simeon is a prayer thatis prayed as part of Night Prayer by all who pray the divine office. It is a beautiful prayer for nighttime: “Now Lord you can dismiss your servant…” In this prayer, St. Luke is telling us that Jesus came to save all people: Christ would reveal his light to the Gentiles. St. Luke hints of the cross that is ahead for Mary and her child: “and you yourself a sword will pierce,” Simeon tells Mary. St. Luke was very sensitive about gender. So often when he tells one of Jesus’ parables about a man, he follows it up with one about a woman. Or if he tells us about Jesus healing a man, he immediately tells us about an occasion when Jesus healed a woman. Here too, he introduced Simeon to us, then he tells us about Anna. In Anna, we have a good example of an evangelist. After she saw Jesus, she “spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.” You don’t have to be a priest or religious to tell others about Jesus. All you have to do is to be excited about God’s saving love given to us in Jesus Christ.
I would like you to consider how Simeon and Anna recognized Jesus. I’m sure he looked like many other little babies who had been brought to the Temple over the ages. How did they know this was the one? Well, St. Luke tells us they were guided by the Holy Spirit and that would have been necessary. But he tells us also they were holy people. They were close to God and spent a lot of time with God in the Temple. I think it’s like anything else. When I walk down the street I see trees. Maybe I might recognize a maple or an oak or a sycamore but most trees are just trees. I hear different kinds of birds, but I don’t recognize any specific bird call or melody. A person who has studied biology or botany is much more aware of the many types of living creatures and plants that surround us. A person who has studied music can get much more out of Bach or Beethoven than I can. A person who has studied medicine is more able to recognize signs of health or sickness. If we are really close to someone, we can discern their moods better than a stranger can. Consequently the closer we are to God, the more aware we are of God’s presence in our everyday lives. Simeon and Anna could see with the eyes of their minds and hearts what human eyes could not see. That’s how they knew Jesus was the one. Do we want to see what our eyes cannot see, do we want to have a greater awareness of God’s presence and his love, do we want to see the goodness and holiness in ourselves and in others? It’s not hard to do. The way is to draw closer to our Lord. The better we know him, the more visible he will be to us. And the Holy Spirit will be there to help. Let us ask our Lord to help us recognize him now in prayer and sacrament as we continue with Mass.

B — The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and
reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal
concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a
sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this
day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We
believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as
priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and
Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our
congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand.

Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A — The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15 | ||

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C — In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15 |
Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B — At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15 |
