Today's Gospel
Matthew 5: 13-16
You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under peoples feet.
You are light for the world. A city built on a hilltop cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lampstand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in peoples sight, so that, seeing your good works, they may give praise to your Father in heaven.
Last Sunday's Gospel
Matthew 5: 1-12
Seeing the crowds, he went onto the mountain. And when he was seated his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak. This is
what he taught them:How blessed are the poor in spirit:
the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
Blessed are the gentle:
they shall have the earth as inheritance.
Blessed are those who mourn:
they shall be comforted.
Blessed are those
who hunger and thirst for uprightness:
they shall have their fill.
Blessed are the merciful:
they shall have mercy shown them.
Blessed are the pure in heart:
they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers:
they shall be recognised
as children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted
in the cause of uprightness:
the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophets before you.
Today's Second Reading
1 Corinthians 2: 1-5
Now when I came to you, brothers, I did not come with any brilliance of oratory or wise argument to announce to you the mystery of God. I was resolved that the only knowledge I would have while I was with you was knowledge of Jesus, and of him as the crucified Christ. I came among you in weakness, in fear and great trembling and what I spoke and proclaimed was not meant to convince by philosophical argument, but to demonstrate the convincing power of the Spirit, so that your faith should depend not on human wisdom but on the power of God.

We hear that we are the salt
of the earth
We are to give flavor to life
We are to do the things we hear
about in the beatitudes
Matthew 5: 3-10

On Ash Wednesday we will hear
about almsgiving and prayer
We are here to take up the work Jesus
began
Ordinary things a smile
a kind word
We can do little things
Say hello to a homebound person
By what we do, others
will notice and follow our
example
We don't see salt in our food,
but we can taste it
See the Easter vigil
the Pascal candle brings light
to the whole Church
We are expected to bring light
to the world
St. Paul comes (in the second
reading) and he offers
Christ, Christ crucified
Paul comes in humility
Christ is the center of his life
We want to forgive
We want to live in harmony
We want to extend mercy to all
Not seek retaliation
Not to get angry and
if we did get angry to say we
are sorry
If this was easy we would seek
to be reconciled and live in
harmony
We are challenged day after day
to be better
We are a work in progress
We have a new day to cooperate
with God's grace and
bring hope and peace and love
to the world
To bring this flavor to
the world
like salt flavors food
Christ is the Light of the World
We are to follow Him
