The Agony in the the
Garden
1. Mark 14: 32-44
They came to a
plot of land called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples,
‘Stay here while I pray.’ Then he took Peter and James and John
with him. And he began to feel terror and anguish. And he said to
them, ‘My soul is sorrowful to the point of death. Wait here, and
stay awake.’ And going on a little further he threw himself on the
ground and prayed that, if it were possible, this hour might pass
him by. ‘Abba, Father!’ he said, ‘For you
everything is possible. Take this cup away from me. But let it be as
you, not I, would have it.’ He came back and found them sleeping,
and he said to Peter, ‘Simon, are you asleep? Had you not the
strength to stay awake one hour? Stay awake and pray not to be put
to the test. The spirit is willing enough, but human nature is
weak.’ Again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. And
once more he came back and found them sleeping, their eyes were so
heavy; and they could find no answer for him. He came back a third
time and said to them, ‘You can sleep on now and have your rest.
It is all over. The hour has come. Now the Son of man is to be
betrayed into the hands of sinners. Get up! Let us go! My betrayer
is not far away.’
And at once, while
he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came up and with
him a number of men armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief
priests and the scribes and the elders. Now the traitor had arranged
a signal with them saying, ‘The one I kiss, he is the man. Arrest
him, and see he is well guarded when you lead him away.’
2. Jesus knew all the
sufferings to come.
3. Jesus suffered for our
sins, the sins that were so horrific and He did it because He loves us.
4. Jesus wants us forever
with Him in heaven.
5. Mary loved the will of
the Father.
6. Jesus obeyed the will
of the Father to His death on the cross.
7. Jesus is the New Adam,
Mary is the New Eve.
8. Sing: At the cross
her station keeping
Stood the mournful mother weeping
Close to Jesus to the last.
9. Jesus sweat Blood.
10. Jesus’ Blood fell to
the ground.
The Scourging at the
Pillar
1. Matthew
27: 24-26
Then Pilate saw that he was making no impression,
that in fact a riot was imminent. So he took some water, washed his
hands in front of the crowd and said, ‘I am innocent of this man’s
blood. It is your concern.’ And the people, every one
of them, shouted back, ‘Let his blood be on us and on our
children!’ Then he released Barabbas for them. After
having Jesus scourged he handed him over to be crucified.
2. Jesus was whipped at
the pillar.
3. With angry faces they
beat Jesus and laughed.
4. Jesus' head was covered
with Blood,
He was whipped and whipped.
5. Jesus’ back was raw
from their beating Him.
6. Jesus paid for our sins
with His Blood and suffering.
7. We don’t even
understand how great Jesus’ love is for us.
8. Jesus stood in a puddle
of His own Blood.
9. The love we give to
Jesus today comforted Him during His bitter passion.
10. Jesus knew them by
name.
The Crowning with
Thorns
1. Matthew
27: 27-31
Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus with them
into the Praetorium and collected the whole cohort round him. And
they stripped him and put a scarlet cloak round him, and
having twisted some thorns into a crown they put this on his head
and placed a reed in his right hand. To make fun of him they knelt
to him saying, ‘Hail, king of the Jews!’ And they
spat on him and took the reed and struck him on the head with it. And
when they had finished making fun of him, they took off the cloak
and dressed him in his own clothes and led him away to crucifixion.
2. Jesus is King of Kings.
3. Jesus was given - not a
crown of gold and jewels, but a crown of thorns.
4. Jesus is the second
Person of the Blessed Trinity - the Son of God.
5. Jesus is truly present
in the Eucharist.
6. They mocked Jesus.
7. They spit on Jesus.
8. Jesus endured all this
for love of us.
9. Oh Jesus, we love You
so much.
10. Oh Jesus, we are sorry
for our sins.
The Carrying of the
Cross
1. They gave Jesus a heavy
cross, laden with our sins.
2. Jesus fell three times
under the weight of the cross.
3. They made Simon help
Jesus with the cross.
4. Jesus looked into the
red, suffering face of His Mother as He carried the cross.
5. Mary saw her beautiful
Son like this.
6. Think of Mary’s
suffering.
7. Mary always did the
Father’s will.
8. Mary’s Heart was
invisibly pierced.
9. And a sword too will
pierce your heart, oh Mary!!!
10. Jesus and Mary
suffered so much - Jesus visibly was wounded and Mary was wounded too -
invisibly.
They both suffered interiorly more than we can ever imagine.
The Crucifixion
1. Mark
15: 24-38
Then they crucified him, and shared
out his clothing, casting lots to decide what each should get. It
was the third hour when they crucified him. The inscription giving
the charge against him read, ‘The King of the Jews’. And they
crucified two bandits with him, one on his right and one on his
left.
The passers–by jeered at him; they
shook their heads and said, ‘Aha! So you would destroy the Temple
and rebuild it in three days! Then save yourself; come down from the
cross!’ The chief priests and the scribes mocked him among
themselves in the same way with the words, ‘He saved others, he
cannot save himself. Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down
from the cross now, for us to see it and believe.’ Even those who
were crucified with him taunted him.
When the sixth hour came there was
darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth
hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, eloi, lama
sabachthani?’ which means, ‘My God, my God, why have you
forsaken me?’ When some of those who stood by heard this, they
said, ‘Listen, he is calling on Elijah.’ Someone ran and soaked
a sponge in vinegar and, putting it on a reed, gave it to him to
drink saying, ‘Wait! And see if Elijah will come to take him
down.’ But Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last. And the
veil of the Sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom.
2. Mary's Message -
from the Rosary of August 27, 1996
Mary:
I stood beneath the cross of my Son, and my Heart was in such pain for I
saw Him before my eyes. I saw Him covered with blood. I saw Him die. My
Heart, my children, my Heart to watch my Son, but my Heart, my Heart, how I
suffered for my little children of the world that give in to this world and
give up the love of my Son. O my little children of light, I give you this
message. Carry this light into the darkness for your Mother Mary, for I
stood beneath the cross and I cried. I cried for the little ones. I cried
for the young ones, the ones that do not care and will lose their souls. How
do I make you see for you will not listen to me? What can I do? I come. I
appear. I beg. I plead. I give you these gifts from my Son, and you reject
me. I do not deliver messages very often anymore for I have been ignored.
The message is the same. You do not read the messages I have given to you.
Please help me. Help the little children. I appear. I appear. I appear, and
I am ignored. I stood beneath the cross, and I cried. I cried, and my Heart
was in such anguish for my little children, for I am searching for them this
day as I searched for the Child Jesus. Please, please help me. I cannot hold
back the hand of my Son any longer. I am Mary, your Mother. I ask you to
help my children. You are my children of light.
