Today's Readings
Fourth Sunday of Easter
Acts 4: 8-12
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, addressed them, ‘Rulers of the people, and elders! If you are questioning us today about an act of kindness to a cripple and asking us how he was healed, you must know, all of you, and the whole people of Israel, that it is by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, and God raised from the dead, by this name and by no other that this man stands before you cured. This is the stone which you, the builders, rejected but which has become the cornerstone. Only in him is there salvation; for of all the names in the world given to men, this is the only one by which we can be saved.’
Psalm 118: 1, 8-9, 21-23, 26, 28, 29
Processional hymn for the feast of Shelters
Alleluia!
Give thanks to Yahweh for he is good,
for his faithful love endures for ever.It is better to take refuge in Yahweh
than to rely on human beings;
better to take refuge in Yahweh
than to rely on princes.I thank you for hearing me,
and making yourself my Saviour. The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
This is Yahweh’s doing,
and we marvel at it.Blessed in the name of Yahweh is he who is coming!
We bless you from the house of Yahweh. You are my God, I thank you
all praise to you, my God.
I thank you for hearing me,
and making yourself my Saviour.Give thanks to Yahweh for he is good,
for his faithful love endures for ever.
1 John 3: 1-2
You must see what great love
the Father has lavished on us
by letting us be called God’s children—
which is what we are!
The reason why the world
does not acknowledge us
is that it did not acknowledge him.
My dear friends,
we are already God’s children,
but what we shall be in the future
has not yet been revealed.
We are well aware that when he appears
we shall be like him,
because we shall see him as he really is.
John 10: 11-18
I am the good shepherd:
the good shepherd lays down his life
for his sheep.
The hired man,
since he is not the shepherd
and the sheep do not belong to him,
abandons the sheep
as soon as he sees a wolf coming,
and runs away,
and then the wolf attacks
and scatters the sheep;
he runs away
because he is only a hired man
and has no concern for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd;
I know my own
and my own know me,
just as the Father knows me
and I know the Father;
and I lay down my life for my sheep.
And there are other sheep I have
that are not of this fold,
and I must lead these too.
They too will listen to my voice,
and there will be only one flock,
one shepherd.
The Father loves me,
because I lay down my life
in order to take it up again.
No one takes it from me;
I lay it down of my own free will,
and as I have power to lay it down,
so I have power to take it up again;
and this is the command
I have received from my Father.
Fourth Sunday of Easter
May 3, 2009
INTRODUCTION: Last week I spoke about how Peter and John healed a crippled beggar in the Temple. The healed man jumped up and down and was walking around which caused a great amount of commotion in the Temple. The people wanted to know what happened and how it had happened. Peter gave all the credit to Jesus who, in his risen presence, healed the man through the Apostles. When the Jewish religious leaders, many of whom did not believe in any kind of resurrection, heard Peter’s witness, they arrested Peter and John and took them to court. Today we hear a portion of Peter’s testimony. The important thing to notice is not only what Peter had to say about Jesus but also his boldness. The court didn’t know what to do with Peter and John because all the people were excited about the healing of a man who had been lame for over 40 years. So the court warned the Apostles not to talk about Jesus any more. The Apostles would not be intimidated, however, for they were now filled with the Holy Spirit. [Acts 4, 8-12]
HOMILY: Jesus tells us: “I am the good shepherd.” Today is often called Good Shepherd Sunday because every year on the fourth Sunday of Easter, we hear a passage from St. John’s 10th chapter [Jn. 10, 11-18] which is about Jesus as our shepherd.
Today Jesus tells us about two kinds of shepherds. There is the kind of shepherd who owns his or her own sheep and there are shepherds who are hired by a farmer to protect and care for sheep that belong to someone else. The second kind, the hired shepherds, run away when danger comes, while those who own their sheep fight hard to protect what is their own, sometimes getting hurt badly or even getting killed. Jesus is telling us he would be killed to protect and save us, but he would return to life again – which he did. This shows us, first of all, how much he cares for us. He would fight to the bitter end for us. It also shows us how powerful he is that he can lay down his life and take it up again. Peter tells us in today’s second reading that Jesus is the only one we can safely follow in order to be saved,.
Jesus tells us something else about shepherds today - they know their sheep and the sheep know their shepherds. It’s just the same way we know our pets at home. How do they know one another so well – because they spend a lot of time together. Sheep take a lot of care and the shepherd is with his or her sheep 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Jesus is with us all the time and knows us better than we know ourselves (all the hairs on our heads are numbered – do any of us know ourselves that well?) If we don’t know him very well, we need to spend more time with him; and that’s called prayer.
When I think of shepherds, I always remember 20 years ago when I climbed Mt. Sinai (I’m glad I did it then, because I couldn’t do it any more – it’s very rugged and steep) and on the way down, I saw a shepherd and her sheep on a near-by hill. It was just getting dark. She started playing her flute and headed in a direction away from where we were; the sheep just fell in line following her. It was all the sheep trusted her knew how much they depended on her. It was a beautiful scene.
The metaphor is obvious. Christ is our shepherd. He wants us to trust him and follow him. Sometimes following him can get a little frightening; we don’t know where he’s taking us or what he might ask of us. Sometimes when he takes us through the desert, as shepherds need to do at times when they want to bring their sheep to better grazing ground, we ask why is he doing this to us? That’s why he is always telling us we need to have faith in him. That’s also why we need to pray - so we will have faith in him. Amen.
Acts 2: 14-40
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice:
‘Men of Judaea, and all you who live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you imagine; why, it is only the third hour of the day. On the contrary, this is what the prophet was saying:
In the last days—the Lord declares—
I shall pour out my Spirit on all humanity.
Your sons and daughters shall prophesy,
your young people shall see visions,
your old people dream dreams.
Even on the slaves, men and women,
shall I pour out my Spirit.
I will show portents in the sky above
and signs on the earth below.
The sun will be turned into darkness
and the moon into blood
before the day of the Lord comes,
that great and terrible Day.
And all who call on the name of the Lord
will be saved.‘Men of Israel, listen to what I am going to say: Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you by God by the miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him when he was among you, as you know. This man, who was put into your power by the deliberate intention and foreknowledge of God, you took and had crucified and killed by men outside the Law. But God raised him to life, freeing him from the pangs of Hades; for it was impossible for him to be held in its power since, as David says of him:
I kept the Lord before my sight always,
for with him at my right hand
nothing can shake me.
So my heart rejoiced
my tongue delighted;
my body, too, will rest secure,
for you will not abandon me to Hades
or allow your holy one to see corruption.
You have taught me the way of life,
you will fill me with joy in your presence.‘Brothers, no one can deny that the patriarch David himself is dead and buried: his tomb is still with us. But since he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn him an oath to make one of his descendants succeed him on the throne, he spoke with foreknowledge about the resurrection of the Christ: he is the one who was not abandoned to Hades, and whose body did not see corruption. God raised this man Jesus to life, and of that we are all witnesses. Now raised to the heights by God's right hand, he has received from the Father the Holy Spirit, who was promised, and what you see and hear is the outpouring of that Spirit. For David himself never went up to heaven, but yet he said:
The Lord declared to my Lord,
take your seat at my right hand,
till I have made your enemies
your footstool.‘For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that the Lord and Christ whom God has made is this Jesus whom you crucified.’
Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘What are we to do, brothers?’ ‘You must repent,’ Peter answered, ‘and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for all those who are far away, for all those whom the Lord our God is calling to himself.’ He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, ‘Save yourselves from this perverse generation.’
1 Peter 2: 9
But you are a chosen race, a kingdom of priests, a holy nation, a people to be a personal possession to sing the praises of God who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
R. Think of Luke as an artist
painting the picture with the words —
the Annunciation
the Visitation
the Birth
the Presentation
the Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple
R. We see such a gift given in Luke's
Gospel and in the Acts of the
Apostles —
In celebrating the Resurrection and this
wonderful time of year we see God
is faithful to His promises —
We see the growth of the Church —
We see the faith and brilliance of
these men Jesus chose —
We see the miracles they worked —
We see God's grace at work —
We know the Church grew with
Mary on earth —
It is so exciting to know these writings
and to hear the writings of St. Luke
Luke tells us about events —
There are speeches in the Acts like
Peter's
AWESOME!!
We see events, what happened and
what is to come —
We see the formation of the communities,
They grew in one mind and one heart —
We know the Church 2000 years later —
We see the Holy Spirit at work.
We read about the healings in Jesus'
name in Acts —
We feel as if we know about Pentecost
from Luke's description —
Acts 2: 1-4
"When Pentecost day came round, they had all met together, when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave them power to express themselves.
R. We see Paul's sermon in Acts 13: 16-41
Acts 13: 16-41
Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak:
'Men of Israel, and fearers of God, listen! The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living in Egypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out and for about forty years took care of them in the desert. When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel. Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin. After forty years, he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who will perform my entire will." To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour, whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the whole people of Israel. Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someone coming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."
‘My brothers, sons of Abraham’s race, and all you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant for you. What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in fact to fulfil the prophecies read on every Sabbath. Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have him put to death. When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from the tree and buried him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead, and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and it is these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.
We have come here to tell you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has come about. God has fulfilled it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you. The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what he had declared: To you I shall give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon. This is also why it says in another text: You will not allow your Holy One to see corruption. Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with his ancestors and has certainly seen corruption. The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.
'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you. Through him justification from all sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify is being offered to every believer.
'So be careful — or what the prophets say will happen to you.
Cast your eyes around you, mockers;
be amazed, and perish!
For I am doing something in your own days
that you would never believe
if you were told of it.'
R. They preach the same message —
Paul preached to the Jews, pagans and Christians
in Acts —
We see God dealing with the Church —
God is Faithful —
Jesus is raised from the dead —
Acts 1: 9
As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight.

Luke 24: 46-49
and he said to them, ‘So it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.
‘And now I am sending upon you what the Father has promised. Stay in the city, then, until you are clothed with the power from on high.’
R. God is faithful to His promises
We see signs in Luke's Gospel
of Jesus' rejection
we see this from Simeon
Luke 2: 34-35
Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘Look, he is destined for the fall and for the rise of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is opposed—and a sword will pierce your soul too—so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.’
R. We see rejection in Luke 4: 28-29
When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged. They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hill their town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff,
R. Jesus told us during the retreat to
stay focused on Him —
So many times we focus on
what other people are
thinking of us just from
what we think others
may be thinking, and it isn't
even the truth and
we take our focus off of Jesus
and doing His work,
God's will and what we should
be doing.
We should focus on Jesus —
Being where He wants us —
Doing the job at hand —
Being a support in the situation
He has called us to —
Not being focused on self and
what people may or may
not be thinking of us —
Do God's will —
When at Mass
Seek to be pure so our

Tell God we are sorry and ask
for forgiveness at the

Unite to the souls in purgatory —
Pray for our ancestors in purgatory

Humility is this seeing the good and

Excerpt from Response in Christ by Fr. Edward J. Carter, S.J.
Other Christian Virtues
If humility is truth, and therefore allows for the proper recognition of my gifts, it also necessitates my admitting to the evil within me. This is also part of the truth. This truth also must be acted upon; for Christian humility not only allows me to admit that there is evil in me, but it also tells me that as a creature of God I should conform myself to His will and strive to eradicate and control the evil as far as this is possible. In summary, humility allows the Christian to evaluate properly both the good and evil in himself.
R. Be honest.
Have I really tried to correct my
own faults?
How is my attitude?
I must pray to God to help remove
my defects of character —
I must work to grow
I must work to change myself with God's help —
I must work to die to my ways not
like Jesus to live the
life of resurrection likened
to Him.
THE TWELVE STEPS OF AA
Here are the steps we took, which are suggested as a program of recovery:
1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol,
that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than
ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives
over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human
being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all
these defects of character.
7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed,
and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible,
except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we
were wrong promptly admitted it.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our
conscious contact with God as we understood Him,
praying only for knowledge of His will for us and
the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps,
we tried to carry this message to alcoholics,
and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
THE PROBLEM
CHILDREN OF
ALCOHOLICS: These are the characteristics we seem to have
in common due to having been brought up in an
alcoholic household:
1. We became
isolated and afraid of people and authority figures.
2. We became approval seekers and lost our
identity in the process.
3. We either become alcoholics, marry them or
both or find another
compulsive personality such as a workaholic
to fulfill our sick
abandonment.
4. We are frightened by angry people and any
personal criticism.
5. We live life from the viewpoint of helping
and seeking victims,
and are attracted by that weakness in our
love and friendship
relationship.
6. We have an overdeveloped sense of
responsibility, and it is easier
for us to be concerned with others rather
than ourselves.
This enables us not to look closely at our
faults, etc.
7. We get guilt feelings when we stand up for
ourselves instead we
give in to others.
8. We become addicted to excitement.
9. We confuse love with pity and tend to "love"
people we can pity and rescue.
10. We have stuffed back our feelings from our
traumatic childhoods and have
lost the ability to feel or express our
feelings. It hurts so much (denial).
11. We judge ourselves harshly and have a very low
sense of self-esteem,
sometimes compensated for by trying to
appear superior.
12. We are dependent personalities who are
terrified of abandonment.
We will do anything to hold onto a
relationship in order not to experience
the pain of abandonment. We are conditioned
to these types of relationships.
13. Alcoholism is a family disease and we became
para-alcoholics.
We took on the characteristics of that
disease even though
we did not pick up the drink.
14. Para-alcoholics are reactors rather than
actors.
THE GOALS
THE OPPOSITE OF "THE PROBLEM"
1. I feel
comfortable and involved with people and authority figures.
2. I have a strong identity and give myself
approval.
3. I accept and use personal criticism in a
positive way.
4. I am becoming free from trying to fulfill my
sick abandonment need.
5. As I face my own victim role, I am attracted
by strengths and understand
weaknesses in my love and friendship
relationships.
6. I am getting well through loving and focusing
on myself.
7. It feels great to stand up for myself.
8. I enjoy peaceful serenity.
9. I love people who love and take care of
themselves.
10. I am free to feel and express my feelings even
when painful.
11. I have a healthy sense of self-esteem.
12. I am freed from the fear of abandonment in
relationships as I rely
more and more on my Higher Power.
13. Through the ACA group, I examine and release
para-alcoholic behaviors
I learned while living with the family
disease of alcoholism.
14. I am an actor in this world.
THE PROMISES
1. We are going
to know a new freedom and a new happiness.
2. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut
the door on it.
3. We will comprehend the word serenity, and we
will know peace.
4. No matter how far down the scale we have
gone, we will see
how our experience can benefit others.
5. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity
will disappear.
6. We will lose interest in selfish things and
gain interest in our fellows.
7. Self-seeking will slip away.
8. Our whole attitude and outlook will change.
9. Fear of people and economic insecurity will
leave us.
10. We will know intuitively how to handle
situations that used to baffle us.
11. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for
us what we could not do for ourselves.

Why are you reacting —
What did somebody else do that pushed a red button

. defensive
. angry to chase them away!
and build a wall between us!
Scapegoating — Blaming others for how I feel!
If we want to change how we feel —
we must change what we say
to ourselves —
LIVE IN the Moment
Song: Live This Day
R. Connect with God — pray - when negative
self-talk starts —
instead of fear, ask God to help you
- 1 John 4: 17-21
Love comes to its perfection in us when we can face the Day of Judgement fearlessly, because even in this world we have become as he is. In love there is no room for fear, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear implies punishment and no one who is afraid has come to perfection in love. Let us love, then, because he first loved us. Anyone who says 'I love God' and hates his brother, is a liar, since whoever does not love the brother whom he can see cannot love God whom he has not seen. Indeed this is the commandment we have received from him, that whoever loves God, must also love his brother.
R. If feelings are from past hurts a person Use the Blue Books |
If we stick out what we are afraid of that is
nothing to be afraid of,
and face it, it can go away, don't escape
if it's not God's will —
pray - pray - pray
We need to heal —
We need to get rid of negative tapes —
Face the truth about what needs healing —
tell the truth —
feel the feeling if much hurt and experience or get help —
but eventually move on to a good place
Not act out on innocent others in
our life today, years later —
People who were abused very often
can't remember, but they
still have the hurt and act out
on innocent others today — it keeps
coming up inside them.
Recovery is needed —
Stuffed feelings and acting out today
robbing us of life —
hurting innocent others —
Repressed memory — it hurts too much —
They may need help!
People can become numb in feelings because they
learned to not react as a child —
not feel feelings —
dealt with pain by stuffing it —
then didn't validate what happened
to them —
They can keep acting out in relationships
that hurt others and fail —
may be abusive to others —
roller coaster relationships —
The pain is in there and it keeps trying
to come up and they blame it
on an innocent other —
It won't go away doing this —
Some abusers have gotten so cold they
can split —
laugh and smile and hurt somebody
else at the same time —
They may have leaned to laugh in
traumatic childhood to survive
abuse —
Crying can be a way to act out anger —
People living in abusive homes learned
survival skills, they use today
on innocent others — they can
play games to control and
act out anger at innocent others —
There is not peace in these relationships
A constant roller coaster as the person
acts - out —
uses survival tactics —
controls
and doesn't face the truth about their
traumatic, dysfunctional childhood!
Addictions are survival skills to deal
with pain, it can be of
traumatic childhood they don't
remember —
Alcohol, controlling, misery, food, work
can numb the pain that is
stuffed inside —
When pain comes up — they use the addiction —
addicted to abuse, drugs, love-hate
relationships, excitement
A person can be betrayed and hurting and
use thinking they will do things
to change the world rather
than face the truth about their
stuffed pain —
A person needs to get in touch with suppressed
anger that is like hungry dogs
in the basement, they keep letting
out on others over spilled milk
This can be passive-aggressive ways a
person provokes others to punish
someone for their anger and
they get relief when the other reacts
for them or is suffering —
These cases need healing — by hurting
others a person doesn't get at
the root of their problems and
then they can even get much worse —
living in a false reality — acting-out
from their past —
We need balance
We need others — relationships
We need to know our hearts.
— not numb old pain —
— not act-out old pain in addictions,
— not abuse innocent others
Some people
— lose big blocks of time 'brown-outs'
— Use survival tactics that have no need as adults
— Post stress syndrome from combat
A bad policy — I feel so therefore it must be true —
We must discern things —
Use right reasoning for our actions —
Get in touch with our hearts —
Know the truth
It's okay not to think like mom and dad —
the family —
Don't rebel against everything if
they taught us lots of good things —
In a smorgasbord we eat some things —
We need to follow God's law
We need to grow more and more in the image
of Jesus
Genesis 1: 26-27
God said, ‘Let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves, and let them be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle, all the wild animals and all the creatures that creep along the ground.’
God created man in the image of himself,
in the image of God he created him,
male and female he created them.

Many people don't feel safe —
afraid with people —
afraid in places —
Create walls in small spaces
Look at what did happen —
Validate —
They may need help dealing with recovery —
Pain and Shame - leads us to recovery —
Violations against us must be valided —
this is for healing —
Trauma victims feel shame about everything
They can't remember the trauma many times.
They hurt — blame others — act out —
Can't heal from wounds you don't know about —
Denial, idealizing childhood
They say parents were never wrong even when
parents abused them.
They can have
symptoms and causes
can't get close in intimate relationships
dysfunction no feel
no talk — alcohol
can be physically abused etc.
no trust
Delusion and denial —
Recognize what good parents did
Recognize their faults - work on recovery and then
Forgive them, those who have harmed us
What happened in childhood is
dramatically important to what
is happening as adults
Parents could make childhood a playground
Parents can make childhood a prison
We have to heal from hurts —
It wasn't our fault for dysfunction
in our homes
Recovery without blaming —
Dysfunctional people can
create co-dependency
Recovery is needed of
having to be right
blaming
mind reading etc. —
How close do we let people get to us?
Do we trust certain people —
Disorder
May feel alone - isolated - not good
with other people
Trauma in childhood — dysfunction
People can have
(1) sleep disorders
(2) Isolation and estrangement
(3) Loss of memory
(4) Denial
(5) Feeling different from others
We must be ready to have God remove
our defects of character,
but we must admit them
(1) anger
(2) abuse
(3) being right
(4) controlling

In these trying times in the United States preceding the election, Jesus has asked us to circulate the Priestly Writing, Fr. Joe's homily book focusing on the Word and the Eucharist with the Shepherds of Christ prayers in the back of the book. The only thing that will help to renew the Church and the world is following the commandments and the Father's Plan. Please help us send this book to the United States priests.

Guiding Light homily series - Reflect on the Word - Cycle B The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $15 |
|
Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15 | ||
|
Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15 |
Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15 |
|
Guiding Light - The Word Alive in Our Hearts. - Cycle A (partial) Homilies by the Reverend Joe Robinson given at St. Boniface Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is a tremendous honor Fr. Joe has allowed us to share these great gifts with you – for greater holiness and knowing more and more about God. $10 |
