It is what is in the heart that really
                makes us like Jesus —

He died for all — even the sinners
                who beat Him —

He died and was whipped for the men
                who tore His flesh —

                    He died for us sinners

God calls us to love God and love
                one another —

It is what is in the heart —

We choose what we eat — it
                    effects our heart —

Doing God's will — will be given
                    a heavenly reward —
                    God is faithful
                    God is just

                Rebelling against God's will
                    opposing God is misery
                    is death —

At the time of Noah — those on
the Ark with Him had life —

Those not on the Ark died —
The waters washed them to death —

In the dividing of the Red Sea
                    those who were Israelites —
those following Moses' teaching lived —
those not following Moses' teaching —
were taken in the waters of death —

Exodus 15: 1-6, 17-18

R. Let us sing to the Lord; he has covered himself in glory.

It was then that Moses and the Israelites sang this song in Yahweh’s honour:

I shall sing to Yahweh,
for he has covered himself in glory,
    horse and rider
he has thrown into the sea.
Yah is my strength and my song,
to him I owe my deliverance.
He is my God and I shall praise him,
my father’s God and I shall extol him.

R. Let us sing to the Lord; he has covered himself in glory.

Yahweh is a warrior;
Yahweh is his name.

Pharaoh’s chariots and army
he has hurled into the sea
the pick of his officers
have been drowned in the Sea of Reeds.

R. Let us sing to the Lord; he has covered himself in glory.

The ocean has closed over them;
they have sunk to the bottom like a stone.
Your right hand, Yahweh,
    wins glory by its strength,
your right hand, Yahweh,
    shatters your foes,

R. Let us sing to the Lord; he has covered himself in glory.

You will bring them in and plant them
on the mountain which is your heritage,
the place which you, Yahweh,
    have made your dwelling,
the sanctuary, Yahweh,
    prepared by your own hands.
        Yahweh will be king
            for ever and ever.

R. Let us sing to the Lord; he has covered himself in glory.

Bend the stubborn heart and will
melt the frozen warm the chill —

Pope John Paul II says —
give God what He wants —

                Mary did what God wanted
Mary said "do what He wants"

Like eating — we can put good
                    things in ourselves for our
heart or bad things that can
                    hurt our heart

When we think of others and
                    not ourselves — thinking
selflessly we are like Jesus —
                    selfishly we oppose God —
                    Being unloving is against the
                        commandments of God —
                    Being angry when God is
calling us to witness to love
                    can be like a spiritual
                    blindness —
like a cataract it grows —
                    Giving into satan makes a
                        hard heart —
How do we defuse anger —
we don't give into it —

We have a free will —
It is a habit to be angry
                    Addicted to misery —
Punishing people for no reason —
                        except our angry heart —

Fr. Carter said to examine our
                    conscience twice a day —

Fr. Mike said we are accountable
                    for our actions

                We are responsible for our
                    unloving ways —

                Obedience to God —

Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and
                    the life"

                Peace — love and joy

                God's plan for us

                Intimacy with God —

                Love — warm — peace — union — joy —

                God knocked Saul to ground

The Spirit of God give peace and joy

Spirit of the world — leave us with unrest
the world promises so much —
world leaves us empty and tired

        Prayer of St Ignatius

Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me
Blood of Christ, inebriate me
Water from the side of Christ wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
O good Jesus, hear me
Within Thy wounds hide me
Permit me not to be separated from Thee
From the wicked foe defend me
at the hour of my death call me
and bid me come to Thee
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee
For ever and ever. Amen.

Calling us out of our settled ways

We need to change these routines that are
                    traps from spiritual deaths

                Share in God's life

Share in life of His love

Ignatius had his leg shattered by a cannon
                    ball —

He wanted books of knights and ladies

Family only had - lives of the saints —
Saints were helpful to his heart —
                Other books left him empty

                    Blessed Mother — Lady —

                We must know the Trinity

THE EARTH STOPPED AND TOUCHED HEAVEN

R. I long to unite in the deepest union with Him in the Eucharist. I long for the Mass. I long for Thee, oh God. My every moment, I join as I did to You December 15 under the cross, where I felt Your presence. You whisked me away, and I was totally absorbed in that moment of celestial union with You. For that time, I existed only in You, in the deepest union, and I was in this moment existing in You. The earth stopped, and I touched the heavens, all my bodily cares were existent in You. I existed in Your Divinity, my being was in You. There was no desire or wish or wanting, for in that moment, I had all I wanted in You. I was satisfied and wanted nothing but to remain in that embrace. You were the Being, and my being existed in You, but I was only as I was in You - merged in You, knowing and being in Your Divinity and being so full as to feel complete in myself.

You are so enormous, and You surrounded me in a burning embrace, the presence of red fire. I was not little, or "nothing", but existed in this enormous power and being so complete!

I touched eternity, and in that embrace, I knew all the waiting was worth the glory. You enveloped my being, and I was truly merged in the Divine Presence. I was merged in Your being. I existed IN You, with You, in the highest union with You, although I knew I was still distinct from You.

I was fused and absorbed in You, feeling complete and satisfied. To describe this union is far beyond any work of my pen and paper. I pray for the reader of this page to receive the grace to share this experience with Him, I will now live for this union-to be forever merged In Him, to be One in Him, to reach higher perfection as I exist in Him, for He takes the lowly and gives to them a sharing in Himself. He merges with us and we exist in Him. The word "in" - I could write pages about. I long for the deepest union with Him, where I am swept up in the heavenly embrace of the Divine God, and I am IN Him.

This is heaven on earth: to be merged as one with Divinity, although remaining distinct from God, to take our feeble hearts, our lowly status and to unite ourselves with the Divine, Almighty, powerful God and in this union to be meshed with Him, that His power dominates and our humanity reaches its heights of fulfillment in this union, in this oneness with Him.

The word I have looked for is "oneness." I understand some of the meaning of the words "One in Him." Oneness is the word to describe this union of our humanity with His Divinity. The depth to which we could meditate on oneness with God is incomprehensible. In that moment, the earth stood still, and He, my Divine Lover, the Bridegroom of my soul, took me to Himself, and I knew the embrace of the Divine God.

Nothing on the face of this earth can describe our union with Divinity. Oh, good God, that creatures are so ungrateful regarding Your divine love. I am so sorry. Let me help make reparation to Your adorable Heart. Please unite with me now that I may more deeply love Thee.

Oh, Divine Lover of my soul, let me help make reparation to Your adorable Heart for the neglect and indifference against You.

Song from Jesus: I come to you with greatest love. I am your loving Savior. I am your God. I died for you. I come to you this day.

R. He allowed me to experience such pain in my heart - wanting Him so badly, so many times-and then on Dec. 15, 1995 - He gave Himself to me in the deepest union.

Nothing satisfies the soul but Him. He wants the nuns and priests to love Him. He chose them to spread His love.

Souls are hungry. They will only be fed with His burning love. Priests need to talk about Jesus' love for us from the pulpit. Priests need hearts burning for love of Jesus. This will feed the hungry souls - lip service love doesn't do it.

He is alive today. He is a Person. He wants us to love Him.

IN THE DEEPEST RECESSES OF HIS HEART

The place Jesus took me was into the deepest recesses of His Heart. I was enveloped in His burning love. It was a red room with heat and an intense glow. I was swept away in this embrace, and I only existed in Him. The power of the Almighty God enveloped me, and I only existed in Him. There was no fear, for I was existent in this Almighty Being. My heart was wrapped in the eternal embrace of this Supreme Being. The security, the power I know was His deep presence in which I existed.

I knew the room was red and warm. I knew His immenseness, but I felt my own completeness in Him. I did not feel little, as a speck, but elevated and empowered for I existed then in Him in a most special way.

I was overtaken by the love of God. The fire of the Holy Spirit filled me. I was absorbed by the love of the Father, and I existed IN Him and in the deepest recesses of the Heart of Jesus. Our heaven on earth is these inner chambers of His magnificent Heart - the Heart of the Almighty God, with all the power, with omnipotence, with the fire of the love of God. He took me to the deepest chamber of this fiery Heart, and in that moment, I touched eternity, for I knew what it was to be enveloped in the deep furnace of His love. I now want to exist in this chamber of His Heart, swept away in His burning love, absorbed in my every cell with His love.

We do not understand the fire of His love. We do not understand what it is to be absorbed by love itself. He took me to the inner, deepest chamber of His Heart, and I felt the heat and knew the presence of love itself, and there was no fear, only a feeling of completeness, omnipotence, all-embracing, penetrating love - a power indescribable in words, a saturation of my being in the presence of God, and I was as I was created to be - living in Him!

This is how I will forever live my life, saturated with His divine life and love deep within this inner chamber of His burning Heart, living in Him as He possesses my being, and I operate with His power in me.

Little creatures though we are, we are His, His power, His life, flowing through us. In Him, we are as the Father intended: one in Him, each one of us, dwelling in this fiery furnace of His love. With our fears quieted and our hearts empowered by His life, we live forever in Him - in the Heart of Jesus.

Let no man separate what God has joined together. I am wed in the deepest love with my beloved Spouse, wed to the Heart of Jesus. As I am, I am one in Him. I live and I breathe in Him. He, Who is love, He Who is our all, He Who is mighty and without limits, He Who is, He Who is God and as I live, He lives in me in this world.

I am wed to Him, and I shall not fear for He is God - one, complete, loving, God. Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee. As I live, I live in Your most adorable Heart, the furnace of God's love!

A Prayer for Intimacy with the Lamb, the Bridegroom of the Soul

Oh Lamb of God, Who take away the sins of the world, come and act on my soul most intimately. I surrender myself, as I ask for the grace to let go, to just be as I exist in You and You act most intimately on my soul. You are the Initiator. I am the soul waiting Your favors as You act in me. I love You. I adore You. I worship You. Come and possess my soul with Your Divine Grace, as I experience You most intimately.

Prayer for Union with Jesus

Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.

I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.

I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.

When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.

The Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

We want God to tell us about
                    Himself —
                    We are open

A journey into the Heart of Jesus —
                We open our hearts —

Prayer from St. Ignatius

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing
that I am doing your will.

                Focus on God's will

Not the ways of the world

Listen to God — Seek His Plan

God has a Plan and He is leading us
                    if we let Him —

                God can get our attention
God wants us to open to Him and
                    trust in Him

The Holy Spirit gives peace and
                    joy —

                Dear God
                    help me to be holy
                    help me to be pure
                    Oh God hear me

I pray the Blood of Christ be poured on me

From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius
    by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. p. 12

                        23. FIRST PRINCIPLE AND FOUNDATION

Man is created to praise, reverence and serve God
our Lord, and by this means to save his soul.

                Let go and let God

When I am in control — then I
                    am blocking God's plan

                Give ourselves completely to
                    God's plan

                Being around angry unpredictable
people — make us guarded — we
                    can become closed

God is telling us to be open
God is telling us to trust Him —

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus I trust in You

God does mysterious things in our
lives — If I am controlling
my life — He is not free to
                    move in us
                    because of our free will
                    in opposition to Him —

                God is all Perfect —
                God is infinite
                God is Supreme and

Yet God loves us so much
                    He wants this oneness
                    with Him —

The Trinity is a community of
                    love —

We as Christians are to show the
world how we are one in
                    love —

We are created in the image and
                    likeness of God —

                God is all good —

To live to be more like God we
                    seek purity and goodness

                God is all powerful
God wants to be one in us —

God as our Father must be seen
as our Father who loves us —
                    created us

                We have a relationship —
Personal - with God the Father —

God choose to create us out
                    of love —

                Love spreads
                Joy spreads —
                Bliss of love

                God created the world out
                    of love —

46. PRAYER.  In the preparatory prayer I will beg God
our Lord for grace that all my intentions, actions,
and operations may be directed purely to the
praise and service of His Divine Majesty.

                Free ourselves of those ways
                    which block us from serving
                    God —

We seek to know God's goodness
                God gives us FREEDOM

We are free to love God or not —
We are free to seek to learn about
                    God or not —

                God created us uniquely
God created us with dignity —
God created out of nothing —

Any goodness we have is a
                    gift from God

God has given us our life
                    as a gift —

We are to serve God with our
                    life —

                    To praise, reverence and serve
                        our God —

To know, love and serve God —

We want intimacy with God —

God wants me to give myself to
Him — to worship Him —

God calls us by name —

Song: By Name I Have Called You —

God taught me about heaven when
my mom died at 5 —
I was told she went to heaven —
She was good and holy —
                    She died of cancer

At five I had to learn about
                    life after death and the
                    reality of this

God wants us to love Him
                    intimately

                — We need to examine our conscience
                    — give thanks to God for His gifts to us
                    — be accountable for our sins
                    — tell God we are sorry for our sins
                    — to tell God we will firmly try
                        to not sin again
                    — to live to love God and others and
                    — to do God's will for us with
                        passion
                    — to praise, serve and reverence
                        our God

Our Lady begged for reparation for our
sins, for our offenses against her
                    Heart and Jesus' Heart —
She begged for this at Fatima

                We have offended God
                We have offended others

We need to make reparation to help
                    repair this relationship with God

                — to grow in greater intimacy with
God and others — we admit our
sins, say we are sorry and have
a firm commitment to do better
                    not sin again

In the Mass we can unite deeply
to Jesus praying to the Father
in the Holy Spirit through the
                    intercession of the Virgin Mary
with all the angels and saints

The Mass is the sacrifice of Calvary
                    sacramentally made present —
We give our hearts to Jesus and Mary
to be made more pure in
                    our offering

We want to help repair the breach
for how men have offended God —

This is what Mary asked for at Fatima

These are the messages of the angel
                    at Fatima

Excerpt from The Spirituality of Fatima

by Fr. Edward Carter, S.J.

Before receiving the six apparitions of Our Lady, May through October of 1917, the three Fatima visionaries were visited by an angel on three different occasions during the preceding year. He appeared to them in the spring, summer, and fall. Lucia (now Sr. Lucia) describes the springtime apparition of the angel:

"My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You."

Then, rising he said: "Pray thus. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are attentive to the voice of your supplications."

His words engraved themselves so deeply on our minds that we could never forget them (3)

During the summer of 1916, the angel again appeared to the three visionaries. He said to them:

Pray! Pray a great deal. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have merciful designs on you. Offer prayers and sacrifices continually to the Most High. Make everything you do a sacrifice, and offer it as an act of reparation for the sins by which God is offended, and as a petition for the conversion of sinners. Bring peace to our country in this way.... I am the Guardian Angel of Portugal Accept and bear with submission all the sufferings the Lord will send you. (4)

In the fall of the same year, the angel visited the visionaries a final time:

The angel came...bearing a golden chalice in one hand and a Host above it in the other. The amazed children noticed that drops of blood were falling from the Host into the chalice. Presently, the angel left both suspended in mid-air and prostrated himself on the ground, saying this beautiful prayer: "Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and [the intercession of] the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners." (5)

Sr. Lucia relates how the angel gave them Communion:

Then, rising, he took the chalice and the Host in his hand. He gave the Sacred Host to me and shared the Blood from the chalice between Jacinta and Francisco, saying as he did so:

"Take and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, horribly outraged by ungrateful men! Make reparation for their crimes and console your God." (6)

Reflecting upon these messages of the angel, we see how much they contain for our spiritual instruction.

                Pope Benedict XVI

                    Mary brings the feminine aspect
                    Many protestants believing Mary
                        is important

                From the Litany

Mary is Ark of the Covenant

Luke 1: 46-55

And Mary said:

My soul proclaims
    the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit rejoices
    in God my Saviour;
because he has looked upon
    the humiliation of his servant.
Yes, from now onwards
all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty
has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his faithful love extends age after age
    to those who fear him.
He has used the power of his arm,
he has routed the arrogant of heart.
He has pulled down princes
    from their thrones
        and raised high the lowly.
He has filled the starving with good things,
    sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the help
    of Israel his servant,
        mindful of his faithful love
—according to the promise
    he made to our ancestors—
of his mercy to Abraham
and to his descendants for ever.

  From Tell My People

The Holy Spirit

Jesus: "My beloved friend, tell My people to pray daily to the Holy Spirit. They are to pray for an increase in His gifts. My people must realize that the Holy Spirit comes to transform them. The Spirit desires to transform you more and more according to My image. Those who are docile to His touch become increasingly shaped in My likeness. He performs this marvel within Mary's Immaculate Heart. The more one dwells in My Mother's Heart, the more active are the workings of the Spirit. The Spirit leads Mary to place you within My own Heart. In both Our Hearts, then, your transformation continues. The more you are formed after My own Heart, the more I lead you to the bosom of My Father. Tell My people all this. Tell them to pray daily for a greater appreciation of these wondrous gifts. I am Lord and Master. All who come to My Heart will be on fire to receive the gifts of the Spirit in ever greater measure! I love and bless My people!"

Reflection: The Holy Spirit is given to us to fashion us ever more according to the likeness of Jesus. And the more we are like Jesus, the more Jesus leads us to the Father. Do we, each day, pray to the Holy Spirit to be more open to His transforming influence? Do we strive each day to grow in union with Mary? The greater our union with our Mother, the spouse of the Holy Spirit, the greater is the transforming action of the Holy Spirit within us.

                Sing: Oh Holy Mary

We have insecurity in the storm

The Apostles were afraid Jesus was sleeping

God is forming us here in His image and
                    likeness

We go to Mary's Immaculate Heart

Mary's Immaculate Heart is the spiritual womb

God blesses us with His gifts —
we are to tithe — give
                    back to God —

Return to God for the blessings
                He gave to us —

Everything we have is a blessing
                    from God —

We are to return to God what is
His due — not be selfish

We are to give to God —

Love the souls He died for —

                Work for God

Abraham — was told He would
                                    have descendants as numerous
as the stars in the sky —

                Abraham was faithful —
                God blessed those who blessed
                    Abraham

Cursed those who cursed him —

We have a constant war with
                    our human nature

                Sarah was barren
                God gave her Isaac

                Abraham proved faithful to God
Abraham calls on God every place He goes
                Abraham always shows faith
                Abraham rich in livestock

                Lot a secularist

                People fight over things —
                    this belongs to me

                Abraham lets Lot choose
Lot wants to do it himself
                    Land of Sodom and Gomorrah
                    Lot making fun of Abraham

                Noah was pleasing to God

                Where there is Sin
                There is Slavery

                Addicts — not free
                Slavery to sin

                Addiction — no longer free
                    alcoholic

Noah — God flooded the earth —
                    corruption of people would
                        continue

Noah is now the new Adam
                Noah did as God commanded

                God saves the just —

                With Noah we see —
God is teaching He saves the just

We must be faithful to God

                Lack of order — sin

                God is order

40 years in the desert because of
                    mumbling

40 days of the flood —

God is always renewing us —

We see that Noah lives —
                    everyone on Ark with Noah
                    lives —

                Those not with Noah —
                    died — people, animals,
                    plants died

                Only Noah and ark survived
                Death with flood

In Christ we are a new creation —

                Our reasoning is wounded

We seek the truth in Jesus
                                        in the Church
                                        in the Word —

                Wounded human nature effects reasoning
                    one person thinks its okay
another person thinks its not okay
wounded
human
nature

                Relativism
                         wrong
person says - this is my truth
that is your truth

Secularism — separates us from God
"trying to be like God without God"

We are all wounded by original sin —
                    even holy parents —

                Family tree
Jesus is the tree of life —

                The commandments are the pathway
                    to happiness

Road map to holiness is love

Every life has a purpose and meaning
                    in the Divine Plan

                Call ——> Response

                Day ——> NIGHT

God created the world from nothing —
                    the seen and unseen —

Do we focus on God's plan

                All creation bears the handprint
                    of God

God talks to us through His creation —
                God created an orderly
                    peaceful
                    harmonious
                    good
world without sin or evil —

The world did not have disease
                    or war —

Death is a consequence of sin —
                    of disobedience to God

Concupiscence — an inclination to sin —
Man in sin prefers himself to God —

                Man seeks independence from God

Man has tendencies toward lust, jealousies,
                    pride, anger, envy, seeking
                    dominance for dominance sake —

Man has a distorted image of God,
                    others and self —

God makes the rules — God's Plan —
Man seeks independence from God —

Satan wants us to lie —
to turn right to wrong and turn
                    wrong to right —

Satan wants man to not examine
                    his conscience —
                    not take responsibility for
                        his sins
                    accountability —

Satan tempts the person with pride —
"I cannot do any wrong" they think
"I will not be corrected" they think
"I will do my will" against God's will

Sin drives us from intimacy with
                    God —

Romans 5: 12-21

Well then; it was through one man that sin came into the world, and through sin death, and thus death has spread through the whole human race because everyone has sinned. Sin already existed in the world before there was any law, even though sin is not reckoned when there is no law. Nonetheless death reigned over all from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sin was not the breaking of a commandment, as Adam's was. He prefigured the One who was to come . . .

There is no comparison between the free gift and the offence. If death came to many through the offence of one man, how much greater an effect the grace of God has had, coming to so many and so plentifully as a free gift through the one man Jesus Christ! Again, there is no comparison between the gift and the offence of one man. One single offence brought condemnation, but now, after many offences, have come the free gift and so acquittal! It was by one man’s offence that death came to reign over all, but how much greater the reign in life of those who receive the fullness of grace and the gift of saving justice, through the one man, Jesus Christ. One man’s offence brought condemnation on all humanity; and one man’s good act has brought justification and life to all humanity. Just as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience are many to be made upright. When law came on the scene, it was to multiply the offences. But however much sin increased, grace was always greater; so that as sin’s reign brought death, so grace was to rule through saving justice that leads to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We should do good because this is
a sufficient reward in itself —

                God is all good —
God wants us to be more in His
                    image and likeness —

                Cain lied —
                Cain's sin was premeditated
                Cain killed his brother —
                Cain was jealous —
Cain gave birth to Enoch —

Genesis 4: 23-24

Lamech said to his wives:

Adah and Zillah, hear my voice,
wives of Lamech, listen to what I say:
I killed a man for wounding me,
a boy for striking me.
Sevenfold vengeance for Cain,
but seventy-sevenfold for Lamech.

                Lemech is prideful,
                    arrogant — revengeful

                Man is Vengeful

God wants a pure heart — not a
                    wicked heart —

                God chooses people

We must fight the devil —

God told Cain he could be master
                    over the devil —

                End of Our Father

"And lead us not into temptation,
                    but deliver us from evil."

We are to work to conquer the devil —

                We have spiritual blindness —
the more we give into the devil —

If giving into the devil — we
                    don't remain the same —
                    the dark gets darker

                Like virtuous living becomes
                    more virtuous

The devil tries to get us to defend our
                    sins, not take responsibility
                    for our wrong actions —
                    not be accountable —
                    lie about our sins

                Fr. Carter examined his conscience
                    twice a day —

St. Ignatius said to do this

We can get a harder and harder
                    heart the more we sin

We can get more and more bitter
                    and angry as we drive
                    ourselves away from God
                    more and more

We are to stay attached to the vine —

Jesus wants to heal us in
body and soul — if it is God's
will we can be physically healed —
So if we see we can be physically
                        healed by God —
We should see God and ask God to
                        spiritually heal us if
                        we are open and want
                        healing

Luke 5: 18-25

And now some men appeared, bringing on a bed a paralysed man whom they were trying to bring in and lay down in front of him. But as they could find no way of getting the man through the crowd, they went up onto the top of the house and lowered him and his stretcher down through the tiles into the middle of the gathering, in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith he said, 'My friend, your sins are forgiven you.' The scribes and the Pharisees began to think this over. 'Who is this man, talking blasphemy? Who but God alone can forgive sins?' But Jesus, aware of their thoughts, made them this reply, 'What are these thoughts you have in your hearts? Which of these is easier: to say, "Your sins are forgiven you," or to say, "Get up and walk"? But to prove to you that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins,' he said to the paralysed man 'I order you: get up, and pick up your stretcher and go home.' And immediately before their very eyes he got up, picked up what he had been lying on and went home praising God.

                Being healed spiritually can
                    return us to abundant
                    life in Him

Acts 9: 1-20

Meanwhile Saul was still breathing threats to slaughter the Lord's disciples. He went to the high priest and asked for letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, that would authorise him to arrest and take to Jerusalem any followers of the Way, men or women, that he might find.

It happened that while he was travelling to Damascus and approaching the city, suddenly a light from heaven shone all round him. He fell to the ground, and then he heard a voice saying, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?' 'Who are you, Lord?' he asked, and the answer came, 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you are to do.' The men travelling with Saul stood there speechless, for though they heard the voice they could see no one. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing at all, and they had to lead him into Damascus by the hand. For three days he was without his sight and took neither food nor drink.

There was a disciple in Damascus called Ananias, and he had a vision in which the Lord said to him, 'Ananias!' When he replied, 'Here I am, Lord,' the Lord said, 'Get up and go to Straight Street and ask at the house of Judas for someone called Saul, who comes from Tarsus. At this moment he is praying, and has seen a man called Ananias coming in and laying hands on him to give him back his sight.'

But in response, Ananias said, 'Lord, I have heard from many people about this man and all the harm he has been doing to your holy people in Jerusalem. He has come here with a warrant from the chief priests to arrest everybody who invokes your name.' The Lord replied, 'Go, for this man is my chosen instrument to bring my name before gentiles and kings and before the people of Israel; I myself will show him how much he must suffer for my name.' Then Ananias went. He entered the house, and laid his hands on Saul and said, 'Brother Saul, I have been sent by the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on your way here, so that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.' It was as though scales fell away from his eyes and immediately he was able to see again. So he got up and was baptised, and after taking some food he regained his strength.

After he had spent only a few days with the disciples in Damascus, he began preaching in the synagogues, 'Jesus is the Son of God.'

The devil wants good to look evil
The devil wants evil to look good —

Only God's way leads to happiness —
                    actresses many have horrible
                        lives — commit suicide

We need to keep our eyes on Christ —

The more we are like Christ — the
                    more we see —

The less we are like Christ —
                    the less we see —

                Evil can be institutionalized —
                    a country — legalizing abortion

We must stand up for what God
                    wants — not worry about
                    being popular

Don't go with the flow —
                    Do what God wants

The devil wants you to turn in on yourself —
The devil wants you to focus on self —
The devil wants you to think of only yourself

Jesus wants us to be like Him
                    other focused —

God intends us to work —
by the sweat of our brow —

-God's Blue Book, January 17, 1994

Jesus wants a soft heart —
                    not a hard heart

                Confession

Those who keep lying about their
sins have an ill informed conscience —

                Spiritual Blindness

                Many in our society have
                    ill - informed consciences

We keep doing worse and worse things
                    against what God wants

We lose sensitivity to evil —

Those with ill informed consciences are
not shocked at evil when they
are sinning or see others sinning —
they are not sensitive to sin —

                Blindness        or         Light

                What keeps things in existence?

                God loves us —
God keeps us in existence —

                There is the Good Shepherd
                There is the evil shepherd

                Those going off don't even
hear the voice of the Good Shepherd

                People like Mother Teresa —
                    witness to Jesus —
others see this and are changed

We are to witness to God

We don't own our bodies —

We are here to serve Jesus

Happy life means — harmony with God and neighbor

We can have peace even in
                    negative conditions —

People in nursing home who are
                    angry and bitter get more
                    angry and bitter —

People who are loving and sweet
                    get more loving and sweet
                    when old —

                Hell is without love
                Hell is without God
                Hell is without peace

John 15: 1-8

I am the true vine,
and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that bears no fruit
he cuts away,
and every branch that does bear fruit
     he prunes
to make it bear even more.
You are clean already,
by means of the word
that I have spoken to you.
Remain in me, as I in you.
As a branch cannot bear fruit all by itself,
unless it remains part of the vine,
neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me, with me in him,
bears fruit in plenty;
for cut off from me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
is thrown away like a branch
—and withers;
these branches are collected
     and thrown on the fire
and are burnt.
If you remain in me
and my words remain in you,
you may ask for whatever you please
and you will get it.
It is to the glory of my Father
that you should bear much fruit
and be my disciples.

                Sing: We Have Been Told

Look at the withered trees —
                    without life

                Life is in Him

                God prunes the branches

We are to be deeply rooted in
                    the vine —

                There are many people
                    walking in the world —
                    dead in their hearts —

John 15: 1-2

I am the true vine,
and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that bears no fruit
he cuts away,
and every branch that does bear fruit
     he prunes
to make it bear even more.

The more we stay one with
                    God the more we will
                    flourish —

God has to be the center of
                    our lives to be really
                    happy

Hebrews Chapter 11

Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for, or prove the existence of realities that are unseen. It is for their faith that our ancestors are acknowledged.

It is by faith that we understand that the ages were created by a word from God, so that from the invisible the visible world came to be.

It was because of his faith that Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain, and for that he was acknowledged as upright when God himself made acknowledgement of his offerings. Though he is dead, he still speaks by faith.

It was because of his faith that Enoch was taken up and did not experience death: he was no more, because God took him; because before his assumption he was acknowledged to have pleased God. Now it is impossible to please God without faith, since anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and rewards those who seek him.

It was through his faith that Noah, when he had been warned by God of something that had never been seen before, took care to build an ark to save his family. His faith was a judgement on the world, and he was able to claim the uprightness which comes from faith.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed the call to set out for a country that was the inheritance given to him and his descendants, and that he set out without knowing where he was going. By faith he sojourned in the Promised Land as though it were not his, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. He looked forward to the well–founded city, designed and built by God.

It was equally by faith that Sarah, in spite of being past the age, was made able to conceive, because she believed that he who had made the promise was faithful to it. Because of this, there came from one man, and one who already had the mark of death on him, descendants as numerous as the stars of heaven and the grains of sand on the seashore which cannot be counted.

All these died in faith, before receiving any of the things that had been promised, but they saw them in the far distance and welcomed them, recognising that they were only strangers and nomads on earth. People who use such terms about themselves make it quite plain that they are in search of a homeland. If they had meant the country they came from, they would have had the opportunity to return to it; but in fact they were longing for a better homeland, their heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, since he has founded the city for them.

It was by faith that Abraham, when put to the test, offered up Isaac. He offered to sacrifice his only son even though he had yet to receive what had been promised, and he had been told: Isaac is the one through whom your name will be carried on. He was confident that God had the power even to raise the dead; and so, figuratively speaking, he was given back Isaac from the dead.

It was by faith that this same Isaac gave his blessing to Jacob and Esau for the still distant future. By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, bowed in reverence, as he leant on his staff. It was by faith that, when he was about to die, Joseph mentioned the Exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions about his own remains.

It was by faith that Moses, when he was born, was kept hidden by his parents for three months; because they saw that he was a fine child; they were not afraid of the royal edict. It was by faith that, when he was grown up, Moses refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter and chose to be ill–treated in company with God’s people rather than to enjoy the transitory pleasures of sin. He considered that the humiliations offered to the Anointed were something more precious than all the treasures of Egypt, because he had his eyes fixed on the reward. It was by faith that he left Egypt without fear of the king’s anger; he held to his purpose like someone who could see the Invisible. It was by faith that he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood to prevent the Destroyer from touching any of their first–born sons. It was by faith they crossed the Red Sea as easily as dry land, while the Egyptians, trying to do the same, were drowned.

It was through faith that the walls of Jericho fell down when the people had marched round them for seven days. It was by faith that Rahab the prostitute welcomed the spies and so was not killed with the unbelievers.

What more shall I say? There is not time for me to give an account of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, or of David, Samuel and the prophets. These were men who through faith conquered kingdoms, did what was upright and earned the promises. They could keep a lion’s mouth shut, put out blazing fires and emerge unscathed from battle. They were weak people who were given strength to be brave in war and drive back foreign invaders. Some returned to their wives from the dead by resurrection; and others submitted to torture, refusing release so that they would rise again to a better life. Some had to bear being pilloried and flogged, or even chained up in prison. They were stoned, or sawn in half, or killed by the sword; they were homeless, and wore only the skins of sheep and goats; they were in want and hardship, and maltreated. They were too good for the world and they wandered in deserts and mountains and in caves and ravines. These all won acknowledgement through their faith, but they did not receive what was promised, since God had made provision for us to have something better, and they were not to reach perfection except with us.

                They still speak to us

Me — Me — Me attitude

Walk with God there is always
                        a reward

                The Church is — the
                        Pillar of truth

                A secular person
                    enriches himself

                Abraham did everything
                    God asks for —

Fire of God purges evil out

                Burning Bush — Moses

Sacred Heart on fire for love
                    of us —

                God never abandons us

                God welcomes us back

                When somebody is disobedient
                    innocent people suffer —

                — we can be out for ourselves
                                            Selfish

                or

                — people for others

                — the Church is the body of Christ

                We can say
"What can I do to please myself"

            or We can say
"What does God want of me"

                What makes me popular?
                What feels good for me?
                What makes me look good?
                Me - me - me —

God wants us to look good, but
                    do it His way —
                    Do things His way

Lot wanted what he wanted —

                Joseph's brothers were jealous —

Jacob was a giant of faith —

Words of Jesus to Members of
Shepherds of Christ Associates:

"My beloved priest-companion, I intend to use the priestly newsletter, Shepherds of Christ, and the movement, Shepherds of Christ Associates, in a powerful way for the renewal of My Church and the world.

"I will use the newsletter and the chapters of Shepherds of Christ Associates as a powerful instrument for spreading devotion to My Heart and My Mother's Heart.

"I am calling many to become members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. To all of them I will give great blessings. I will use them as instruments to help bring about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. I will give great graces to the members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. I will call them to be deeply united to My Heart and to Mary's Heart as I lead them ever closer to My Father in the Holy Spirit."

- Message from Jesus to Father Edward J. Carter, S.J., Founder, as given on July 31, 1994,
feast of Saint Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits)
