June 26, 2016 - In the Month of the Sacred Heart
R. Dear God help us on our journey –
We see in today's Gospel Jesus was
on a journey to Jerusalem. We too
are on a journey we want to have
eternal life.
We seek to be enlightened that we
walk as God wants us to walk.
Where we are blind we now can see.
We can use the Blue Books and
open daily to help us on our
journey here to walk with Jesus,
to walk in His will, to know
our place, to be spontaneous
and alive to be ready to carry
this message to others through example
and love.
God has commanded us to love Him
first and love our neighbor as ourselves.
Do I really love myself as God wants
me to see myself? Do I see that
I am loved by God and that I
am not perfect, but He still loves
me?
Do I walk humbly in the truth?
I am created by God and He loves
me.
From the Priestly Newsletter
Cardinal Newman said
"... everyone who breathes, high and
low,
educated and ignorant, young and old,
man and woman,
has a mission, has a work. We are not
sent
into this world for nothing; we are not
born at
random. . . God sees every one of us;
He creates every soul, He lodges it in
a body, one by one, for a purpose. He
needs,
He deigns to need, every one of us.
He has an end for each of us... we are
placed in our different ranks and
stations, not to
get what we can out of them for
ourselves, but to
labor in them for Him, as He rejoiced to
do His work,
we must rejoice in ours also."
(Discourses addressed to
mixed congregations)
R. I am imperfect and I am trying to
grow and learn how to be as God wants
me to be.
How loving of others am I,
really – Am I a loving person to
the people God has asked me to
work with? Am I loving because
I practice being loving – Going out
to others or do I treat some
with unkindness and expect them
to make me happy.
Love is going out to others.
Love is loving oneself as the creation
of God and knowing God loves us –
The greatest commandment – commands
love –
I must be honest with myself –
how I feel about myself – Do
I love myself and see how much
God, who created me, loves me?
Am I self-righteous, ready
to lie to prove I am perfect before
others and not working on my
journey to change and die to
the ways I need to die to – to
grow in more perfect and pure
ways like Jesus and Mary?
Prayer for Union with Jesus
Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.
I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.
I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.
When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.
-God's Blue Book, January 17, 1994
R. What are the motives behind my
actions? Is there love behind the
way I act? Am I pure in my actions
of those God has called me to respect
and love?
Do I know how to respect
those over me as guides God has
sent to help me grow on my
journey here below?
A person can live lifelong
trying to justify why they are
never wrong and always perfect –
Why they see themselves above those
God has called them to work with
for the building of His Kingdom.
How can a person do work with
another person who has problems
with the person they are to work with?
They can be always working out their
problems inside of them, with
people of the past, with authority
and can project their own problems
on an innocent other doing what
God wants them to do.
God intends us to work under
authority – His authority – God intends
us to "bend the stubborn heart and
will, melt the frozen warm the chill"
How can anybody work with a
person that refuses and is always on
edge ready to defend themselves? How
can a person in authority work with
someone who doesn't want anyone over
them? There is always a battle when any
thing is to be done. They don't like
authority, they do not see it
as a friend but are opposed to anyone
over them and they want to be
in charge –
God intends us to work in
structure and to work under
His authority. He intends us to respect
authority. We can have a bad attitude –
rebel against those over us and at
any time the person with the bad
attitude may act-out their rebellion
and dissension. This displeases God.
God wants work to be done –
walking hand-in-hand, being
harmonious, being at peace and
putting heads together for a
project to help build His Kingdom.
We must learn to be responsible
and accountable for our actions
and know to be as God wants
us to be – our actions cannot
be based on the deadly sins –
God intends us to be pure in our
heart, kind in our ways, respectful
of authority, have a positive attitude,
accept correction and do what those
over us, tell us to do in harmony
and love.
What is to be gained from trying
to act like I did not do something
wrong when I needed correction
and things needed to change –
Change is what life is all about –
We are to die to our ways not like
Jesus and grow in the image
and likeness of Jesus. Death/Resurrection.
That is the Pascal Mystery – Jesus
came and died for our sins – that
we would live a new life in Him –
dying and rising in Him.
Jesus showed us by His coming and
dying that we needed to be reconciled
to God – so we know when we sin
we have to be reconciled to God
and others, keep the relationship
growing by working through what
we did, and have an intention of
not sinning like that again,
admitting our fault – asking
for forgiveness and correcting
the damage we did if we can,
making reparation to God and others –
We have to be true to ourselves inside.
Humility is truth. We pray to have
the virtue of humility. We work
to tell the truth – to have habits
of being truthful and admitting
when we are wrong and need to
do something different.
A person who is dark inside may
want to provoke others to
keep what is outside of them
dark – to justify their darkness –
so they can try to create a
dark issue by lying and
provoking to take the light away
and control a situation that may
have been peaceful and fun.
A person can be addicted to this
kind of behavior, darkness, chaos or
they may be prone to making a mess
to control the situation to stop
the work God is wanting to
accomplish.
The devil will work through negative
bad habits – life-long, if a
person gives into this and
refuses to allow God's work
to be done.
Habits become ways people act
quickly because they practice
it and a person can have
a habit of being kind and
up or a habit of turning everything
sour so work cannot progress ahead.
In this, work is not accomplished.
It can become a habit to go along
with a good attitude and listen
and work to build the Kingdom of God –
Or it can be a habit to turn things
to a fight, rebellion and to
stop good work and prayer
that needs to be done to please
God.
Satan doesn't want harmony
and especially any love
or peace.
A person in charge is to come
and give directions what to
do.
Children sometimes may not want to
do what their parents tell them
to do and they can rebel
against the parents and say
make me –
But adults learn tactics for
controlling negative situations
by provoking and working
disharmoniously because
it is a habit that they want
control and may not be open
to anyone telling them what
to do.
If a person wants isolation and
wants to be in control – they can
do all kinds of things to chase
others away, so the person
who is in charge would have
to fight their roadblocks.
I watched a movie and a woman
was given a pumpkin farm and
she was the owner, she had nothing
else. When she went to the place to
see what she could do – the
man and his family were so
in charge they didn't want
her there.
They were foolish because she
owned the farm –
The man who was taking care of
the farm gave her all kinds
of hard tedious jobs to get
her to 'throw-up' her hands
and quit –
In other instances people who want
to be in charge can provoke
and try to run others out –
so they can be in charge
and not do what God
is wanting them to do.
Whether it is a Church or a
parish – when a new pastor
comes to try to be like Christ –
people who want their way
can pull all the strings they
can to stop change.
When somebody has worked hard to
stop changes and throw
everybody else out – so
they could be alone and run
things – it is hard
for the real authority to fight
someone who uses a hard-
ball and debates and
tricks to get their way.
Knowing one's place under God –
doing God's will in love
helps us to work harmoniously
and prepares us for God's Kingdom.
God is ultimately in charge –
The question is what is our
place? Why would we
want our will over God –
St. Ignatius gives us –
From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius,
by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. p. 12
23. FIRST PRINCIPLE AND FOUNDATION
Man is created to praise, reverence and serve God
our Lord, and by this means to save his soul.
From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius,
by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. p.1121. SPIRITUAL EXERCISES
Which have as their purpose the conquest of self
and the regulation of one's life in such a way that
no decision is made under the influence of any
inordinate attachment
R. In the purpose St. Ignatius tells
us to let go of inordinate
attachments – so our actions
will be pure –
Doing actions that are bad habits
like pride and anger and
jealousy and envy, and
gluttony and slothfulness
and lust –
Being disobedient to authority –
causing chaos and debate to
block what God wants in
rebellion, are foolish –
Actions are to be performed to help
us to attain eternal life –
Actions are to be according to God's
will in love –
Actions are to be good in themselves –
The devil is real and he tells us to keep
doing what we are doing –
Don't worry about eternal life –
do what you want.
Fr. Joe had a story he told –
the devil tells a person to keep
doing what they are doing
they have plenty of time –
We are accountable for our actions –
we have a responsibility before
God for our actions –
We are to tell God we are sorry when
we sin and be reconciled in
our relationships with God and
others – not to sin like that
again – have a firm purpose
of amendment and make
reparation for our sins –
What is the motive why someone
acts –
Is the motive loving?
Is the motive harmonious?
Is the motive God's will?
Is the motive to help build the Kingdom of God?
Is the motive coming from right reasoning?
Making amends for how I have
acted that was wrong and hurt others is how
I can help heal myself. The person who
just keeps on 'stirring the pot' and
never admits their sins – really
knowing themselves, is not free
or living in the truth.
Working out relationships with
God and others, being just to
others, being temperate and
balanced in our actions according
to God's will, being prudent in
how we act and having fortitude
doing the difficult tasks God calls us to
and doing it in the time and way
He wants are the moral virtues.
These are good habits – these become
the ways we quickly act –
the right way, pleasing God –
like grooves we act by – we quickly
are prudent and just and temperate
and have fortitude.
We are human and have a wounded
human nature. Isn't it
a relief to know God forgives
our sins when we go to Him
and ask to be forgiven and
tell Him we don't want to
sin that way again and ask
for His grace and want to make
amends for the wrong we caused.
What a relief to be truthful
and to correct the wrong we did.
Don't we like ourselves more
when we are truthful and just
and temperate and courageous
doing the difficult God asks of
us because we love Him.
We want friendship with God
and others and certainly with
ourselves.
Friendship comes in telling
the truth not being
self-deceptive and self-righteous,
prideful, jealous, envious and
angry and lying to others,
provoking others to cause chaos.
"Do unto others what you would
have them do unto you."
Why would a person deceive themselves
before God and argue when
they were wrong?
Why would a person not work
harmoniously with those
God has called us to work
with to build His Kingdom?
Satan is the father of lies –
When we lie to ourselves and
others we hurt ourselves
and bring darkness and unhappiness.
Create in me –
a clean heart, oh Lord
Prayer of St Ignatius
Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me
Blood of Christ, inebriate me
Water from the side of Christ wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
O good Jesus, hear me
Within Thy wounds hide me
Permit me not to be separated from Thee
From the wicked foe defend me
at the hour of my death call me
and bid me come to Thee
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee
For ever and ever. Amen.

Luke 1: 46-55
And Mary said:
My soul proclaims
the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit rejoices
in God my Saviour;
because he has looked upon
the humiliation of his servant.
Yes, from now onwards
all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty
has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his faithful love extends age after age
to those who fear him.
He has used the power of his arm,
he has routed the arrogant of heart.
He has pulled down princes
from their thrones
and raised high the lowly.
He has filled the starving with good things,
sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the help
of Israel his servant,
mindful of his faithful love
—according to the promise
he made to our ancestors—
of his mercy to Abraham
and to his descendants for ever.
R. Mary is the perfect handmaid
of the Lord –
