Adam and Eve sinned —

Cain killed Abel
Jealousy - Cain jealous of his brother
fighting - competition - pre-meditated - hatred
of Cain for his brother
DEATH
ABEL was killed
Men followed evil
the deeds of evil - the descendents of Cain peopled the earth
Seth was another son
Noah the son of Seth
Noah was just
God found favor with Noah —
God told Noah to build the Ark —
There was so much evil - it was a loving thing
of God to destroy the people on the earth
by the flood — except for the descendents
of Noah — because men had become
more sinful and corrupt
God is always renewing
Men become sinful and God renews —
Men laughed at Noah and his Ark —
Noah built the Ark anyway —
Did Noah build the Ark on dry land?
Did they call Noah mad?
Genesis 7: 11-12
In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, and on the seventeenth day of the month, that very day all the springs of the great deep burst through, and the sluices of heaven opened. And heavy rain fell on earth for forty days and forty nights.
Noah was obedient to God
Noah trusted God
Noah's descendents were blessed for obeying God.

Revelation 12: 1-8
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, robed with the sun, standing on the moon, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Then a second sign appeared in the sky: there was a huge red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, and each of the seven heads crowned with a coronet. Its tail swept a third of the stars from the sky and hurled them to the ground, and the dragon stopped in front of the woman as she was at the point of giving birth, so that it could eat the child as soon as it was born. in the clouds and it will be the sign of the covenant between me
and the earth. When I gather the clouds over the earth and the
bow appears in the clouds, I shall recall the covenant between
myself and you and every living creature, in a word all living
things, and never again will the waters become a flood to
destroy all living things. When the bow is in the clouds I shall
see it and call to mind the eternal covenant between God and
every living creature on earth, that is, all living things.’
‘That’, God told Noah, ‘is the sign of the covenant I have
established between myself and all living things on earth.’

Noah's Ark rested on 17th day of the 7 month on
the mountains of Ararat.
Genesis 8: 3-4
...After a hundred and fifty days the waters fell, and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Because of the garden — men seek dominance
for dominance sake
Men want to be ruler —
Men must be under God
1 Corinthians 15: 20-28
In fact, however, Christ has been raised from the dead, as the first-fruits of all who have fallen asleep. As it was by one man that death came, so through one man has come the resurrection of the dead. Just as all die in Adam, so in Christ all will be brought to life; but all of them in their proper order: Christ the first-fruits, and next, at his coming, those who belong to him. After that will come the end, when he will hand over the kingdom to God the Father, having abolished every principality, every ruling force and power. For he is to be king until he has made his enemies his footstool, and the last of the enemies to be done away with is death, for he has put all things under his feet. But when it is said everything is subjected, this obviously cannot include the One who subjected everything to him. When everything has been subjected to him, then the Son himself will be subjected to the One who has subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.
The wounded human nature —
To act in jealousy, envy, seeking dominance
for dominance sake is impure —
To try to do God's will when others are
resisting can be frustrating — working
for a particular job, God wants done — while
others resist for pure control, manipulation,
passive-aggressive types can be frustrating —
This is not impure — it is seeking God's will and
others acting in impure ways are blocking God's work —
We cannot ignore the stories of the Bible — Cain
killing his brother in hatred, jealousy, pre-mediated,
envy. God is telling us how Adam and Eve sinned
and what that disobedience to God did to them and
all their descendents.
Men must seek to follow authority — God's will —
not be autonomous - think they are little gods and
try to prove it by manipulation, control, violence
and impure ways —
Men used force in the Bible to dominate
others -- Cain —
Other men obeyed God — they were rewarded —
Abraham - Noah
Jesus came the Savior of the world to give
us a sharing in His life —
Jesus died on the cross for our sins —
From the fall of Adam and Eve we see death —
disease — a punishment for sin —
where there was order — there is now disorder —
in the elements — in animals — DISORDER
Genesis 3: 19
By the sweat of your face
will you earn your food,
until you return to the ground,
as you were taken from it.

Man in disobedience to God's will can even not
value life — their own and others — driving
recklessly — endangers oneself and others, killing
babies in the womb, testing things in our bodies
with misuse of drugs and alcohol —
God put us here in time when He wanted — we
can't want to be younger than we are —
God put us here — we are to value life —
our own and others —
Some people think about their bodies and forget
their souls —
We must want God's will —
God loves us first — we must respond —
We must give our will to His will —
It is not easy many times but we love God so we
obey Him
Many Bible Notes from Fr. John's Bible Study
When we sin we choose something before God —
We want what we want even if it is not God's
will and it is evil — the devil can tempt
us like Eve in the garden and we say "yes"
to the temptation. We choose something
evil against our own good and the good of others.
The devil tries to make good look bad and bad
look good — he tries to trick us with fallacious
reasoning. We want to be holy if we are choosing
good — the evil man is rebelling against God.
The core of sin is to be independent of God —
We chose to make decisions independent of God
The beginning of secularism and relativism — decisions
independent of God.
Adam and Eve consented to the temptation of satan.
Sin came into the world with the disobedience
of Adam and Eve — harmony was disrupted —
DISORDER occurred —
We see God through tainted vision from our
wounded human nature.
We see each other through tainted vision from
our wounded human nature.
We see ourselves through our tainted vision
from our wounded human nature —
Mary, Our Mother, is the Immaculate Conception.
Mary is sinless.
We see through eyes of lust, envy, jealousy, covetousness,
pride, lethargy, seeking dominance for dominance
sake — We see through tainted vision
We have a distorted image of God, ourselves —
We may not want to listen to God or obey His will for us.
Adam and Eve blamed each other —
Blame entered the world.
The human person is pulled between grace and
concupiscence.
Romans 8: 5-9
Those who are living by their natural inclinations have their minds on the things human nature desires; those who live in the Spirit have their minds on spiritual things. And human nature has nothing to look forward to but death, while the Spirit looks forward to life and peace, because the outlook of disordered human nature is opposed to God, since it does not submit to God's Law, and indeed it cannot, and those who live by their natural inclinations can never be pleasing to God. You, however, live not by your natural inclinations, but by the Spirit, since the Spirit of God has made a home in you. Indeed, anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
Genesis 3: 15
I shall put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;

and you will strike its heel.
Jesus is the Savior of the World

Adam and Eve brought death to the world
The New Adam and New Eve bring life to the world.
Romans 8: 1-14 Thus, condemnation will never
come to those who are in Christ Jesus, because the law of the
Spirit which gives life in Christ Jesus has set you free from
the law of sin and death. What the Law could not do because of
the weakness of human nature, God did, sending his own Son in
the same human nature as any sinner to be a sacrifice for sin,
and condemning sin in that human nature. This was so that the
Law’s requirements might be fully satisfied in us as we direct
our lives not by our natural inclinations but by the Spirit.
Those who are living by their natural inclinations have their
minds on the things human nature desires; those who live in the
Spirit have their minds on spiritual things. And human nature
has nothing to look forward to but death, while the Spirit looks

obligation to human nature to be dominated by it. If you do
live in that way, you are doomed to die; but if by the
Spirit you put to death the habits originating in the body,
you will have life. All who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons
of God;

Adam and Eve sinned — they needed a Redeemer

Men and women have a tension now between them

The first born of Adam and Eve is Cain —
Cain kills his brother
Cain is jealous of Abel's offering
This shows us about purity of intention
Doing a good act for God should come
from a pure heart
Doing a good act for God should be
reward enough —
Impure motive —
I do something - that I say is nice —
something God wants, but I
want something for my own
vain glory
Cain's sin was more serious.
Cain is angry, jealous, envious at his brother —
So much so he kills him —
God gives us the Eucharist
This is the Body and Blood of Jesus
This is the source of life.
God punishes Cain — !!
Adam and Eve give birth to Seth
God wants a pure heart!
Noah is a descendent of Seth —
The sin became worse and worse —
corrupt — What God did with Noah was
a loving thing —
God wants his people holy — not rebellious —
God renews — all through salvation history —
A person choosing evil chooses their
own fate — those who live by God's
will are choosing a place in heaven —
There is personal sin, but it spread — people
teach others to sin, a whole group
can be corrupted —
God destroyed everyone, but the descendents
of Noah because the people were
so corrupted.
The flood prefigures the saving waters
of baptism
1 Peter 3: 20-21
They refused to believe long ago, while God patiently waited to receive them, in Noah’s time when the ark was being built. In it only a few, that is eight souls, were saved through water. It is the baptism corresponding to this water which saves you now—not the washing off of physical dirt but the pledge of a good conscience given to God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
The world is being created anew —
7 pairs of clean animals — male and female
and 2 pairs of unclean animals — male and female
are taken on the ark
There were 7 days of creation
Noah is obedient to God
In Baptism it is the sacrament instituted by
Christ by which the soul is cleaned of
sin through the pouring of water and the invocation
of the Holy Trinity — The soul is filled with
grace, the child is a child of God,
an heir of heaven and member of the
Catholic faith —
1 Peter 3: 18-22
Christ himself died once and for all for sins, the upright for the sake of the guilty, to lead us to God. In the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life, and, in the spirit, he went to preach to the spirits in prison. They refused to believe long ago, while God patiently waited to receive them, in Noah’s time when the ark was being built. In it only a few, that is eight souls, were saved through water. It is the baptism corresponding to this water which saves you now—not the washing off of physical dirt but the pledge of a good conscience given to God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has entered heaven and is at God’s right hand, with angels, ruling forces and powers subject to him.
Hebrews 8: 7-13
If that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no room for a second one to replace it. And in fact God does find fault with them; he says:
Look, the days are coming, the Lord
declares,
when I will make a new covenant
with the House of Israel
and the House of Judah,
but not a covenant
like the one I made with their ancestors,
the day I took them by the hand
to bring them out of Egypt,
which covenant of mine they broke,
and I too abandoned them,
the Lord declares.
No, this is the covenant
I will make with the House of Israel,
when those days have come,
the Lord declares:
In their minds I shall plant my laws
writing them on their hearts.
Then I shall be their God,
and they shall be my people.
There will be no further need
for each to teach his neighbour,
and each his brother,
saying ‘Learn to know the Lord!’
No, they will all know me,
from the least to the greatest,
since I shall forgive their guilt
and never more call their sins to mind.By speaking of a new covenant, he implies that the first one is old. And anything old and ageing is ready to disappear.
Covenant in terms of salvation history
is a religious pact.
Covenant established a life - relationship
between God and His people —
The life of baptism is the life of new
covenant — covenant implies
community — we must realize that
our covenant life calls us to a
communitarian existence — to life
within the Church.
We help one another go to the Father
in Christ and under the Spirit.
We are meant to achieve our destinies, not as
isolated individuals, but as members of community.
