Micah 6: 1-4, 6-8
Yahweh’s case against Israel
Now listen to what Yahweh says:
‘Stand up, state your case
to the mountains
and let the hills hear
what you have to say!’
Listen, mountains,
to the case as Yahweh puts it,
give ear, you foundations of the earth,
for Yahweh has a case against his people
and he will argue it with Israel.
‘My people, what have I done to you,
how have I made you tired of me?
Answer me!
For I brought you up from Egypt,
I ransomed you
from the place of slave–labour
and sent Moses, Aaron and Miriam
to lead you.
‘With what shall I enter
Yahweh’s presence
and bow down before God All–high?
Shall I enter with burnt offerings,
with calves one year old?
Will he be pleased with rams
by the thousand,
with ten thousand streams of oil?
Shall I offer my eldest son
for my wrong–doing,
the child of my own body for my sin?
‘You have already been told what is
right
and what Yahweh wants of you.
Only this, to do what is right,
to love loyalty
and to walk humbly with your God.’
R. Micah is not as popular as Isaiah, Jeremiah.
In this reading there are 3 parts –
First Micah talks
Micah lived around the time of Isaiah about 701BC
This passage can be confusing because first Micah
talks, then God and then the people respond.
First the prophet Micah is calling the people
together for a trial, the people were unfaithful,
many of them – worshipping false gods –
Many unfaithful to God –
Then God speaks – He says: What have I done
for you, how have I wearied you? He tells
them He brought them from Egypt –
He loved them –
Then there is the response of the people –
Psalm 50: 5-6, 8-9, 16-17, 21, 23
'Gather to me my faithful,
who sealed my covenant by sacrifice.'
The heavens proclaim his saving justice,
'God himself is judge.' PauseIt is not with your sacrifices that I find fault,
those burnt offerings constantly before me;
I will not accept any bull from your homes,
nor a single goat from your folds.But to the wicked, God says:
What right have you to recite my statutes,
to take my covenant on your lips,
when you detest my teaching,
and thrust my words behind you?You do this, and am I to say nothing?
Do you think that I am really like you?
I charge you, indict you to your face.Honour to me is a sacrifice of thanksgiving;
to the upright I will show God’s salvation.’
Matthew 12: 38-42
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees spoke up. ‘Master,’ they said, ‘we should like to see a sign from you.’ He replied, ‘It is an evil and unfaithful generation that asks for a sign! The only sign it will be given is the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah remained in the belly of the sea–monster for three days and three nights, so will the Son of man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. On Judgement Day the men of Nineveh will appear against this generation and they will be its condemnation, because when Jonah preached they repented; and look, there is something greater than Jonah here. On Judgement Day the Queen of the South will appear against this generation and be its condemnation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look, there is something greater than Solomon here.
R. We hear the words during Holy Week –
How have I wearied you?
How have I let you down, my people?
What I ask of you is so simple.
You don't have to sacrifice your children.
God's ways are not these ways –
I call you to justice and to love, to be
truthful, to love your brothers to
harmony – God's ways are not that demanding,
but He does say to pick up our cross
and follow Him.
The Scribes and Pharisees want more signs –
Jesus says, you have the sign of Jonah –
When Jonah went to Nineveh - he warned them
and they listened - the Nineveh people
were hard people and they repented
when Jonah told them they had 3 days –
The people responded to Jonah
We ask God to help us to be open to His message
of love –
What good does it do a man to live his
whole life not loving anybody –
Love is why we were created –
Love is giving –
Love is obeying authority and working
in harmony –
There is a home and people are loving, united
as a family – there is peace, harmony, love
among the brothers, sisters, mom and dad –
There is another house – under that roof
parents are selfish – not loving their spouse –
all focused on themselves - anger passed on
from generation to generation - brothers and sisters
in competition, combat, disharmony –
Different roofs –
What goes on in love under one roof –
harmony - thinking of the other is
not like what goes on under the second
roof –
selfishness, angry parents teach children
to be angry, divided, what is normal to them
is having anger, division with others –
So if they can get away with it – they have
anger with others, having a hostage to
always be mad at –
The Trinity is 3 Persons in one God –
God created us to be in loving relationships, unity
Relationships – trusting others –
trusting God –
A person that sees only themselves is
irritated by the presence of others –
they want to be in control, be
alone –
God gave us marriage, union to
propagate the earth –
God put this union in plants and animals –
God said "Increase and multiply"
God wants oneness
Prayer for Union with Jesus
Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.
I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.
I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.
When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.

Cling to Me
May 13, 1993
Jesus: My dear child, if you stay close to Me, then I live in you and you live in Me. I am He Who created you and I love you with such an intensity that you will never know. My words are your truth. You must abide in My heart in all things. There is no room for doubt. My ways are steadfast, direct, and without error.
You must stay rooted in Me to ward off the power of the evil one. His grip is paralyzing and crippling. His power is stronger every day.
When you live in Me, I am in your heart and he has no power over Me. I am your God. I am your true lover. I want to protect you. I want to guard you from this force. Stay rooted firmly in Me and he will have no power.
I am He Who comforts you. My hand is upon you. Hold tight to Me, My child. My eyes are fixed right on you. You are My most precious child. I love you as no other can. My arms are about you. My tenderness surrounds you. My love is in your heart. You go not alone. I walk with you.
I share every aspect of your life with you. Cling to Me, feel My presence. It is warm and secure within your chest. There is no room for fear, for I cast out fear and bring you comfort and joy.
