Consecration Prayer for Peace
I consecrate Russia and the Ukraine to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
I further consecrate the priests, the Church and the world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary.
I do this in the name of Jesus in as far as I am able, united to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, praying to the Father, in the Holy Spirit, with all the angels and saints and the souls in purgatory through the powerful intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace. Amen.
I further consecrate myself, all members of my family and ask the Holy Spirit to fill us. I spread the Blood of Jesus on all above, I cast the devil into hell away from all of us and consecrate all persons, in as far as I am able, to the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart.
Prayer for Grace for our Country
Dear Father united to Jesus in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Sacrifice of Calvary sacramentally made present, celebrated around the world, in the Holy Spirit. We offer up all we do united to the Mass. We unite in one mind and one heart as members of the mystical body of Christ, with Christ our head in the pure and holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary, through the powerful intercession of Mary with all the angels and saints and souls in purgatory, and we beg for the saving grace, for our country, the United States. Please help us. We further pray for unity to always do the will of God in love. We spread the Blood of Jesus on the leaders and people of the United States and cast the devil into hell. We consecrate our country to the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart and all our dioceses, and beg for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. God help us. We pray for our families, the priests, the Church and the world. In the Name of Jesus please hear us, we pray. We pray for our president and leaders. We pray that we are united as one nation under God to work together in love as God wants.

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Genesis 18: 20-32
Then Yahweh said, ‘The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin is so grave, that I shall go down and see whether or not their actions are at all as the outcry reaching me would suggest. Then I shall know.’
While the men left there and went to Sodom, Yahweh remained in Abraham’s presence. Abraham stepped forward and said, ‘Will you really destroy the upright with the guilty? Suppose there are fifty upright people in the city. Will you really destroy it? Will you not spare the place for the sake of the fifty upright in it? Do not think of doing such a thing: to put the upright to death with the guilty, so that upright and guilty fare alike! Is the judge of the whole world not to act justly?’ Yahweh replied, ‘If I find fifty upright people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place because of them.’
Abraham spoke up and said, ‘It is presumptuous of me to speak to the Lord, I who am dust and ashes: Suppose the fifty upright were five short? Would you destroy the whole city because of five?’ ‘No,’ he replied, ‘I shall not destroy it if I find forty–five there.’ Abraham persisted and said, ‘Suppose there are forty to be found there?’ ‘I shall not do it,’ he replied, ‘for the sake of the forty.’
Abraham said, ‘I hope the Lord will not be angry if I go on: Suppose there are only thirty to be found there?’ ‘I shall not do it,’ he replied, ‘if I find thirty there.’ He said, ‘It is presumptuous of me to speak to the Lord: Suppose there are only twenty there?’ ‘I shall not destroy it,’ he replied, ‘for the sake of the twenty.’ He said, ‘I trust my Lord will not be angry if I speak once more: perhaps there will only be ten.’ ‘I shall not destroy it,’ he replied, ‘for the sake of the ten.’
Psalm 138: 1-3, 6-8
I thank you, Yahweh, with all my heart,
for you have listened to the cry I uttered.
In the presence of angels I sing to you,
I bow down before your holy Temple.I praise your name for your faithful love and your constancy;
your promises surpass even your fame.
You heard me on the day when I called,
and you gave new strength to my heart.Sublime as he is, Yahweh looks on the humble,
the proud he picks out from afar.Though I live surrounded by trouble
you give me life — to my enemies' fury!
You stretch out your right hand and save me,
Yahweh will do all things for me.
Yahweh, your faithful love endures for ever,
do not abandon what you have made.Colossians 2: 12-14You have been buried with him by your baptism; by which, too, you have been raised up with him through your belief in the power of God who raised him from the dead. You were dead, because you were sinners and uncircumcised in body: he has brought you to life with him, he has forgiven us every one of our sins.
He has wiped out the record of our debt to the Law, which stood against us; he has destroyed it by nailing it to the cross;
Luke 11: 1-13Now it happened that he was in a certain place praying, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.’ He said to them, ‘When you pray, this is what to say:
Father, may your name be held holy,
your kingdom come;
give us each day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive each one
who is in debt to us.
And do not put us to the test.’He also said to them, ‘Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him in the middle of the night to say, "My friend, lend me three loaves, because a friend of mine on his travels has just arrived at my house and I have nothing to offer him;" and the man answers from inside the house, "Do not bother me. The door is bolted now, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up to give it to you." I tell you, if the man does not get up and give it to him for friendship’s sake, persistence will make him get up and give his friend all he wants.
‘So I say to you: Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; everyone who searches finds; everyone who knocks will have the door opened. What father among you, if his son asked for a fish, would hand him a snake? Or if he asked for an egg, hand him a scorpion? If you then, evil as you are, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’
17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 25, 2004
INTRODUCTION – Last Sunday in the first reading, we heard about how Abraham showed hospitality to three strangers. He prepared a great feast for them and one of the strangers promised Abraham that he and his aged wife would have a son. In today’s first reading we hear what happened next. It turns out one of those visitors was God himself. It seems the other two were angels. God invited Abraham to go with them
as they traveled to Sodom and Gomorrah. God takes Abraham into his confidence and tells him the two cities are about to be destroyed for their depravity and immorality. Notice the comfortable yet respectful familiarity that existed between God and Abraham.HOMILY – The apostles had to have known how to pray. Some of them had been disciples of John the Baptist. Going to synagogue every Sabboth was a must for all Jews at the time of Jesus. They would have heard two readings from the Bible, the part we call the “Old Testament.” They would have heard a sermon on each of the readings and they would have prayed and sung psalms. Their daily prayers would have consisted of psalms as well. So why ask Jesus: “Lord, teach us to pray.” They obviously felt they were missing out on something. What Jesus gave them was some insight into his own personal communication with the Father. St. Luke’s version is a little shorter than St. Matthew’s version, which we are familiar with.
The ability to communicate with one another is a real skill. Hundreds of books are written to help us improve in our ability to communicate. So we shouldn’t be surprised that communication with God, who is infinitely greater than we are, is something we must learn. If prayer came easy and effortless, our church would be filled every week, maybe even every day! But if learning to communicate takes time and effort, what is it that makes it worthwhile? Relationships, of course! Relationships with anyone, even God, cannot exist without communication.
Jesus knows prayer has its difficulties. That’s why he tells us not to give up. There are lots of people who get religious only when they want something. When they pray and don’t get what they ask for, they say prayer doesn’t work. Jesus, on the other hand, tells us it does.
The problem is we get too impatient. And too often when we pray we forget that it is to “our Father” that we are praying. As we know, sometimes fathers say “no” or “not yet” or “I don’t think that would be a good idea.” Notice also Jesus tells us before we start asking for things we first say “thy will be done.”Prayer is a measure of our faith. In prayer we are expressing our faith in a Father who is infinitely wise and who loves with infinite love. That’s partly why prayer is not easy, because faith is not easy. When we enter into prayer, we are entering into a dialogue, as Abraham did, telling God what we would like, yet at the same time recognizing God is the one who has the last word, not us.
What is that last word? It is our eternal happiness. That will be the kingdom of God Jesus asks us to pray for. It depends on us if we are going to enjoy it, so that’s why Jesus tells us to pray for it: “Thy kingdom come.” And again, it shows our faith at work when we pray that way because we don’t always know how God is working to bring that about. We just trust God is on our side and that we will cooperate with God’s work to make the kingdom a reality for each of us.
Jesus said “Ask and you will receive.” He doesn’t say “you might receive, but you will receive.” What he is saying is that no prayer is wasted. Prayer cannot fail to bring some blessing – even if it’s not the thing we think we need most. If we truly believe God is all wise and all loving, then we have to conclude that if we do not receive what we’ve asked for, God has something better in mind. But this is where faith comes in. Prayer works, even when we do not see immediate results.
I just want to say a word about distractions. They’re normal. Thomas Merton said, if you don’t get distracted, it means you’re brain dead. I believe whenever we try to pray, we are praying. I believe God is pleased that we keep reaching out to him. One of the easiest ways the devil has to get us away from God is to convince us not to pray. He tells us “it doesn’t work,” “you’re wasting your time,” “it’s boring,” “you have too many other things to do,” “you’re too tired now,” etc, etc. Don’t ever quit praying, no matter what. It will always bring you great blessings.
Today we were supposed to have a Mission Appeal, but the priest who is coming got stuck in a traffic jam in Houston, so his plane will not arrive until after this Mass is over. I’m sorry you’ll miss his appeal, but I hope you will make a contribution anyway. He is a priest of the society of St. Paul. We see pictures all the time of poverty and desperation in many of the areas where they work: especially in Africa and the West Indies. We can’t solve everyone’s problems, but we do have an opportunity today to help some of those people who are in great need. You may pick up an envelope in the pew and make your contribution today, or you can bring it next week. Please be generous.

Sorrowful Mysteries
The Agony of the Garden
1. Jesus: I love you so much. I suffered so for those who ignore God's Law and sin mortally and lose their soul.
2. Jesus: I love you so much. I saw all the sins of the human race in the Garden.
3. Jesus: My greatest suffering for those whom I love, and they had such hard hearts of hatred.
4. Jesus: I suffered so for those who would hold out in anger lifelong and deny this love I have for them.
5. Jesus: "Vengeance is Mine says the Lord".
6. Jesus: Oh, sweet one, I tell you how much I love you and you refuse to listen and listen to satan and live in darkness and hate.
7. Jesus: I am love. You cannot hold out in anger against your brother who may or may not have even hurt you, because of the anger in your own hearts.
8. Jesus: You do not even know the Father's love for you, many times, because you ignore how much He loves you and you live in ingratitude.
9. Jesus: The Father created you in love, you are so precious to God.
10. Sing Song: A Song from Jesus
The Scourging at the Pillar
1. Jesus: I love you, I love you, I love you.
2. Jesus: They beat Me raw, and I endured it because I love you so much.
3. Jesus: I gave Myself for you, so many are so selfish.
4. Jesus: I call you to be other focused. I love you so much, you will not listen.
5. Jesus: Satan tempts you to be angry at your brother, many times it's projection from your own anger in yourself.
6. Jesus: I love you so much, minute by minute, second by second, hear Me say "I love you, so much".
7. Jesus: I want to gather you to Me and give you My most precious gift of My love - and you refuse to listen!!!!
8. Jesus: I love, I love, I love you so much, many will not even listen, they would rather walk in the hardness of their hearts, than give kindness and love.
9. Jesus: Oh sweet one I would die for you today,
I love you.
10. Song: I Love You Jesus
The Crowning with Thorns
1. Jesus: God's will is your guiding principle.
2. Jesus: When you do your Father's will, some who want their own will, may fight and persecute you because of their own disobedience to the Father's will.
3. Jesus: The devil tempts people to make right-wrong and wrong-right.
4. Jesus: So many prayers in the Mass are asking to stop from doing evil - what good are words when some just speak words and do not act according to the way they speak and God wants.
5. Jesus: Words mean nothing when one denies by their actions the words that come from their mouth.
6. Jesus: I call you to truth not lie.
7. Jesus: I call you to humility. You are to admit the good and evil in yourselves and seek conversion.
8. Jesus: I am the Divine God, I am the King of Glory.
9. Song: God's Love
10. Jesus: I am Jesus, the Son of God, they crowned My head with a crown of thorns, I endured this for love of you.
The Carrying of the Cross

2. Jesus: Mary is the perfect handmaid of the Lord.
3. Jesus: I carried the heavy cross laden with the sins of the world and Mary watched.
4. Jesus: The cross was so heavy, I thought of My love for you.
5. Jesus: Little one, focus on this love, don't listen to satan. I am with you in all your crosses, like when I carried the cross.
6. Jesus: The cross leads to life.
7. Jesus: Don't miss this opportunity to grow closer to Me, by accepting the little crosses you have to carry.
8. Jesus: Ask your Mother Mary to help you, to conform to doing God's will.
9. Jesus: Mary is the Medatrix of grace.
10. Jesus: Mary wants to take you to her Immaculate Heart, her spiritual womb.
The Crucifixion
1. Jesus: The theme of death/resurrection is at the center of salvation history.
2. Jesus: The cross leads to life.
3. Jesus: The pattern of death/resurrection is at the center of the Church's life.
4. Jesus: Mary is Mother of the Church's life.
5. Jesus: Mary walks next to you on your own individual road to Calvary, as you die to those ways not like Me, to grow in the life of resurrection.
6. Mary: I stood beneath the cross of My Son, I watched Jesus die on the cross for love of you.
7. Mary: I watched Jesus whipped, crowned with thorns, fall to the ground, for your sins.
8. Mary: Souls are going to hell this very night because they will not ask for forgiveness of their mortal sins and are stubborn and hard in heart.
9. Mary: I cry blood for these children who deny their sins after they sin and hurt others - denying their sinful ways.
10. Mary: I am Our Lady of Clearwater, I appear there to deliver this message your heavenly Father delivers here.

1. The Two Hearts and the Mass
(To be read by leader or a family member)
We are living in the Age of the Two Hearts. The Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
We must take refuge in Jesus' Heart and in Mary's Heart. In dwelling in the pure and holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary we will be transformed more and more in the image of Jesus.
The greatest source of growth in devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary is the Eucharist. We should attend Mass often, daily if possible. What a great gift God has given to us in the Eucharist! Many people do not realize the great gift God gives us in the Mass. Think of it! People are privileged to offer the Sacrifice of the Mass together with Jesus. So many prefer to do other things than attend Mass.
Jesus wants us to go to Mass and receive Him in the Eucharist. He gives Himself to us. In the Eucharist He comes to us Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. He longs for us to come to the Eucharist and receive Him. We receive the greatest graces to be transformed more into His image and likeness. We must pray for a deeper understanding of the Mass. We must go to Him through the pure and Immaculate Heart of Mary. God gives Himself to us. Do we long to receive Him?
2. SONG: I Love You Jesus
3. PROCESSION
- to the enthroning of the Sacred Heart Picture
(All in attendance can be lead by the leaders and family to the place of
the Sacred Heart picture.)
4. SONG: To Jesus Heart All Burning or I Love You, Jesus
5. PRAYER: Apostles Creed
All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day he arose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven; sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
6. Enthronement of the Sacred Heart
(To be read by leader or family member)
We are gathered here to honor our King, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is our most honored guest. He loves us so ardently and wants to be King of our home and King of our hearts. We all join together and most graciously welcome Him in our midst. We love You, dear Sacred Heart of Jesus. We honor You this day and are privileged that You, God, love us so much.
Please help us all grow in our knowledge and love of You. We honor You. We praise You. We adore You, and we love You.
We ask You to come and dwell in our hearts. As our King and the center of our lives, we forever want to be with You, most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we love You so much.
Come and be with every member of this family in a special way. Guard us in our undertakings. Dear Holy Spirit, lead us to the on-fire love of Jesus' Heart.
Mary, our most loving Mother, as you carried Jesus in your womb, you who cared for Him as a child, you who forever stood by Him and walked with Him on Calvary, you, dear Mary, as you stood under His cross and suffered so for love of Him and us, you who held His lifeless body under the cross, you who saw His glorified Body after the resurrection and watched Him ascend into heaven, you, dear Mary, you who know this most Sacred, tender, loving Heart, place us so gently into His most Sacred Heart.
Protect and lead every person present and their families to this intense union with your Son. We pray for the priests the world over, Your special anointed sons, to lead all children to the love of Your most Sacred Heart.
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus forever reign in the hearts of all people through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
We praise You, we honor You, our beloved Jesus. We tenderly love Your Heart so!
Dear Father, thank You for Your beloved Son. Thank You for Your gifts to us. We thank You for giving us a sharing in Your divine life through baptism. We are Your beloved children. Draw us ever closer to union with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and Mary, in communion with the angels and saints. Amen.
7. Images of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary
(To be read by leader or family member)
We should have pictures and statues of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart in our homes. This will greatly help us to give honor to Their Hearts. Churches and chapels should have these images.
Study the Promises of the Sacred Heart given to St. Margaret Mary.
8. Find Refuge in the Most
Sacred Heart of Jesus
(To be read by leader or family member)
We want the Sacred Heart of Jesus to bless our home in a special way. We ask You, Sacred Heart of Jesus, to bless our home. We make You the King and Center of our hearts and our home. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary reign in our hearts. Please help us spread the devotion to the Sacred Heart. In #12 of this booklet you will see the promises given by Jesus to St. Margaret Mary for those who are devoted to His Sacred Heart. We should hang pictures of the Sacred Heart and Mary's Heart throughout our homes.
When we read the promises of the Sacred Heart and circulate them among our friends, many people will want to have a devotion to Jesus' Sacred Heart.
We can carry the picture of the Sacred Heart and Mary's Heart with us. If we look at His picture, we will be reminded of the promises. When we have a difficult day, it will help us to look at Their pictures.
It may help us to pray the Litanies to the Sacred Heart and the Blessed Virgin.
Jesus loved us so much He died for us. From the cross, He gave us Mary as our spiritual Mother.
Mary leads us to a closer union with Jesus. Mary will take us to the depth of the Heart of Jesus. Mary loves us so much. She is our loving Mother. Mary is pure and tender of Heart. It is through Mary we will experience such intimacy with God. It is through her Immaculate Heart that we will be led into the deepest union with the one, triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Jesus' Heart is burning with love for us.
(Song: I Am Your Sacred Heart)
9. Consecrate Your Churches, Homes and Workplaces to the Sacred Heart
and the Immaculate Heart
(To be read by leader or family member)
We should consecrate the human race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We should enthrone Jesus as King in all homes, churches and businesses.
June is the month of the Sacred Heart. Jesus must reign, be KING, of all hearts. Jesus' promises to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque are given. We should read them. We can consecrate our churches and places of prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that He will reign there.
First Friday is a special day of devotion to the Sacred Heart. We have these booklets available that people will consecrate their homes, churches and businesses to the Sacred Heart. Will you help us encourage all to consecrate their homes, businesses and churches to the Sacred Heart? Will you help us spread these booklets?
We want the Sacred Heart of Jesus to reign and the Immaculate Heart of Mary to triumph in all hearts. Will you pray for this with us and help us to spread this material?
Recommend to people that they display to be honored pictures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
May is the month of Mary and June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Tell all about this consecration. During these months we can make a special effort to do this.
We can gather our friends and sing, "To Jesus' Heart All Burning" and "Immaculate Mary". May these two Hearts of love give all members of the human race peace, joy and love in their hearts.
We should adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. This is such a gift God gives to us. Jesus loved us so much He gave His life for His precious souls. Jesus wants the souls to come to Him and love Him.
We are so gifted to receive Jesus in Holy Communion. Jesus has a Heart filled with love on fire for men.
The more we united to Jesus, the more we will become one with the Father and know His love.
Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
We can offer a holy hour for the indifference, ingratitude and sacrileges committed against Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, the Sacrament of His greatest love.

Guiding Light homily series — Reflect on the Word — Cycle B The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $10 |
Guiding Light homily series — Steadfast to the Son — Cycle A The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $10 |
Guiding Light — Focusing on the Word — Cycle B At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $10 |
Guiding Light — Feed My Soul — Cycle C In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $10 |
