April 22, 1996
Jesus: I have spoken to you on the 22nd of the month concerning the Center and the Shepherds of Christ Movement. The Center will light up the darkened world. I ask you to spread the messages of My love in God's Blue Book. I am a burning fire filled with such love for men. My light will shine when hearts are joined in deepest love with My Heart. You will unite in one mind and one heart when all are consecrated in their hearts and are fervently loving My Heart and My Mother's heart.
Jesus gave me a message:
I want Blue Book 10 published and the
Parents and Children's Rosary Book reprinted.
The Blue Book 10 and the
Parents and Children's Book
should be presented together as a unit
because they are from January 1st, 1996 to March 31, 1996.
I would like the Parents and Children's Book
in Spanish printed with the Imprimatur.
Pray for Special Intentions
Pray for Funds
Dan called and gave the report to me, when I hung up I saw this rainbow and took a picture for him.
August 4, 2013 - Early Morning
Sing: I Am the Bread of Life
R. The Blood of Jesus –
I drink Your Blood My Savior and I am
quenched of my thirst –
You give me life in You –
We have a free will to love –
We have a free will to seek God as
our ultimate goal or to seek
some other goal –
Should we seek love as a goal?
Yes, the greatest commandment
states
Matthew 22: 36-40
'Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?' Jesus said to him, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets too.'
R. But if our goal is an inordinate attachment
we can even make ourselves or others
a false - god and in the line of life –
lie to ourselves it is God's will.
For every attachment man has there
is faulty reasoning why he clings
to it and takes his sights away
from the eternal goal of God.
Why does man allow himself to
be deceived as this, because he is
not serious as he should be of
really seeking God's will first
above all things. His reasoning
can become more and more tainted
as he gives into the flesh.
When God calls a man in his vocation
to be a religious it is not to be
taken lightly. A marriage to another
is a serious commitment, why
would a religious almost embrace
an attitude of half-hearted,
half-blinded attitude toward
a marriage, as a religious to God.
A marriage to God means you have
a real partner, the Divine Bridegroom.
Is not this such an honor to embrace
marriage to the God-head? For to marry
Jesus - is on its way of knowing
a touch of the beatific vision
where we will be wrapped in the
embrace of God for all eternity.
We are here to have goals and the ultimate
goal for man is marriage to God
for all eternity –
Listen to words in the scriptures
that refer to marrying our maker –
Isaiah 54:5-9
For your Creator is your husband,
Yahweh Sabaoth is his name,
the Holy One of Israel is your redeemer,
he is called God of the whole world.
Yes, Yahweh has called you back
like a forsaken, grief-stricken wife,
like the repudiated wife of his youth,
says your God.
I did forsake you for a brief moment,
but in great compassion
I shall take you back.
In a flood of anger, for a moment
I hid my face from you.
But in everlasting love
I have taken pity on you,
says Yahweh, your redeemer.
R. So a person enters religious life and
surely are greatly blessed by such
a marriage to God, but the marriage
depends – not on the community,
but on the individual.
My sister entered a large community
and there were as many different
commitments to their vows as there
were people who made them.
You may think, the old nuns were
the most religious, but not so, it was
in the heart of each individual
and how committed they personally
were to their vows and that marriage
of wearing a ring in that marriage
to Jesus.
She went through a period in which
her habit being formal and big went
to red dresses, some make-up,
some did not have to take the vow
of poverty after she did take it
and was committed to it.
Fr. Carter took the vow of poverty
and took his vows of poverty,
chastity and obedience and his
marriage to Jesus so seriously.
Fr. Carter said he had a constant vision
in his heart of Jesus. In writing about
going to the Heart of Jesus – he said
he was mystically married to God in
a most profound union and he could
never have answered his call in the
Shepherds of Christ as spiritual director and
founder if he did not have this
intense mystical marriage to Jesus.
His life goal was living this marriage
to God with upmost seriousness
to prepare himself for the beatific
vision.
But it wasn't what he talked about,
marriage to Jesus, what he did talk
about and focused on was dwelling in
the Hearts of Jesus and Mary – he
called his little heaven on earth.
What I saw was the man, the
priest, at peace, loving, embracing
all, serving all, being another
Christ to us in his vocation as
a priest – mystically married
to Jesus.
In Blue Book 5 Jesus had me put a
certificate of mystical marriage
on the back cover. It said State of Purity,
Glorious County. This is to Certify that
the party of the first part, Rita Margaret,
accepts the party of the second part,
Jesus, the Son of God, as the bridegroom
of his or her soul on this day, the 4th of
November and every day forward, in
accordance with the Scriptures. Witnesses
being Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit.
R. The sub-title
"So Deep Is the Love of His Heart"
Oh my God, I thirst after You and love
You so much and You call me to
serve You in the market place,
for every bride is to serve the
needs of their husband.
You live in us in the world
today and as Fr. Carter says in this
Priestly Newsletter that follows
Excerpt from the Priestly Newsletter May/June 1997
The Cause of Christ. What is this cause? Some two thousand years ago Jesus walked this earth preaching His Father's message, healing the sick, forgiving sins, extending His kindness and mercy, training the apostles. In all His varied activity, Jesus was accomplishing the redemption. Today, Jesus still walks the earth. He teaches the Father's truth. He is concerned with the sick and the ignorant. He administers the sacraments. He manifests the Father's love in many different ways. But, unlike that time of two thousand years ago, Christ Himself is not visible. He is visible only through us, His members. He extends to us the great privilege-and responsibility-of assisting Him in the continuation of His redemptive work. The total Christian community and each individual Christian are, then, certain extensions and continuations of the Incarnation. So close is this union between the Christian and Christ that St. Paul speaks very strikingly that it is more Christ than Paul who now lives: "I have been crucified with Christ, and I live now not with my own life but with the life of Christ who lives in me. The life I now live in this body I live in faith: faith in the Son of God who loved me and who sacrificed himself for my sake." (Ga 2:19-20)
Each of us has the privilege of offering Jesus his or her own unique person, one's own humanity, one's own human existence. As with St. Paul we are asked to allow Jesus to live within us. Each Christian has the opportunity to allow Jesus to live through the uniqueness which is this particular Christian. To the extent the Christian does offer himself to Jesus in this manner, to that extent Jesus has a unique opportunity of continuing His redemptive work. To the extent the Christian holds back and does not allow Jesus to live in oneself, to that degree Jesus loses this unrepeatable opportunity.

Romans 8: 38-39
For I am certain of this: neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nothing already in existence and nothing still to come, nor any power, nor the heights nor the depths, nor any created thing whatever, will be able to come between us and the love of God, known to us in Christ Jesus our Lord.
R. It is up to us to speak of such dignity
of an individual being married to
God as a Servant and Handmaid of
the Good Shepherd, Fr. Carter was
called to be the founder.
But the individual's response to their
vocation, comes from the heart.
One person may live faithfully in
their marriage to another under the
sacrament of marriage and their
marriage vows – while another
may get a divorce several times.
Because a person divorces several
times, it does not change the
institution of the sacrament of
marriage as instituted by Christ.
Commitment, Covenant are very
strong in the scriptures. Look at
the Commitment God made to Noah –
He has never destroyed the earth by
flood again.
Look at the Covenant God made with
Abraham – Abraham did become
the Father of many nations –
Look at the Covenant Jesus makes
with us.
Look at the Mass, the sacrifice
of Calvary sacramentally made
present –
We eat His body, we drink His
blood –
Covenant with God –
When I look at Jerry, our servant I see
a commitment to his marriage vows
to Jesus – I see Betty every day from
3:00a.m. to 7:00a.m. before the exposed
Eucharist praying for us and giving great
love to Jesus, her whole life, and
she is in a wheel chair, now, is
giving, serving God with her
suffering.
R. Betty has been praying in China
for 15 years before the tabernacle
for the Shepherds of Christ – It is
time to thank God for the holy souls
that pray and serve and keep on keeping
the Movement as their primary
focus, the ones who I meet and say
to me – I live the Shepherds of Christ –
It is my life – Laverne who came to Florida
about a year ago, but she said
the Shepherds of Christ is my life.
What a big gift this is to Jesus.
Jeff who works so hard and
helps us and works to help the
Movement. Sanja and all the
others, Melanie and Dan who
I cannot say how they have
contributed . . .
It is for love of Jesus we serve
in this vocation and there are
many others who listen to every prayer
service they can and take their calling
as Apostles of the Sacred Heart very
seriously, like Sue, who will send me an
e-mail and thank me for the beautiful rosary
from Jesus.
Marriage to God is preparing
ourselves for eternity in which
if we go to heaven we will be wrapped
in the arms of the Father, Son and Holy Sprit
for all eternity in the beatific vision.
Jesus paid a dear price out of
love for us and He raises us up
and He loves us so much to tell
us about His infinite love. We
cannot even fathom, what this
infinite love of God is like and
yet He gives us the Blue Books to
know this love more – to live our
vocation as members of the
mystical body of Christ – to
live this out in our lives –
Shouldn't there be a book to
tell us how to be united to the
Mass in our vocation as mystical
members of the body of Christ.
The Church is the mystical body
of Christ. The Church is the
bride of Christ –
How are we as members of the
mystical body of Christ. Are
we learning what baptism
means. Are we spreading the
Blue Books of His love teaching
us about baptism, the Mass,
the gift of the Church.

R. This is the backbone of the Shepherds of
Christ, to have members all over the world
praying before the Blessed Sacrament
as Apostles of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus –
This is to have this network of prayer
praying as holy members of the
Church for the priests, the Church
and the world in all these different
languages.
To have religious giving their
lives in love for the Church
and the priests and praying
for the priests, the Church and
the world.
R. Little children have to learn –
they can keep testing a parent,
just doing stuff they shouldn't
seeing if they can get away with it
and parents in this time have a full
time job how children can test them
with all the media and things that
are not good for them. Parents have
a hard road today teaching children
about the 4th commandment.
Nobody can erase the commandments.
They are not old or extinct –
they are still the commandments
of God.
Jesus gives us the 7 sacraments –
the fountain of His life, Baptism
is so important –
the Eucharist is so important –
God shows us commitment in
marriage and commitment in
Holy Orders – it is a sacrament
(Some marriages are unlawful or
invalid the Church recognizes this)
Commitment to our baptism
is important –
to go out to the world and spread
the Good News –
R. Those entering a proper marriage in the
Church has entered a sacred union.
This union symbolizes
Christ's union with the Church.
God blesses this union with
His grace. This union is
a sacrament and God gives grace
to those married to help them
preserve this union which may
be very difficult at times.
It is through marriage that God
propagates the earth. God made
man and woman – two sexes to
join in holy wed-lock.
God calls men to be priests. The priests
need our prayers which is why Jesus
instituted the vocations in the Shepherds
of Christ. The priest acts as a mediator
between God and man – He baptizes
and He offers Mass which bring
down such grace to us.
R. The priest hears our confessions
and this is so important to restoring
our friendship with God.
The priest gives the anointing of
the sick for people sick and
dying –
R. The priest is "another Christ"
He is the center of the
spiritual life of the
members of the Church,
Christ's body –
The priest has authority!
The priest's homilies are so important,
we will soon print Fr. Joe's
7th book.
Cardinal George told me to do this
7 books ago –
The priest is a mediator between
God and man –
his vocation is to help men
to go to heaven –
he will answer for how
he lived –
Jesus gave us this Movement to
pray for the priest –

The Pain - Naples, Florida
R.
He spread His arms, He gave His all, Jesus, the Son of God, the greatest sacrifice, He gave Himself entirely for the good of all men. He opened His arms, He died on the cross. His arms were covered with blood, His arms so weak and filled with pain, wounded. His arms, the pain shot up His arms and the final blow to each arm a nail through each precious hand.
All the agony He experienced, all the pain, and the crown, to each arm, a nail hammered into the hand.
All the nerves cut and severed by the nail, the pain shooting up His precious arms, the final blow given to His most precious members. The legs that carried Him, that carried the heavy cross, the legs that were forced and cajoled, that continues to Calvary
- the legs weakened, skinned, bleeding, beaten, burned, the legs that knew patience and perseverance, the legs connected to a sore foot that was rubbed and gashed and bleeding, the members of Jesus, filled with such pain and exhaustion, now is crowned with the final glory. The nail that was driven into the foot, the pain shot up this already weakened leg, covered with blood and wounds and pain, the final blow, the nerves severed by the hammered nail.A blow to each hand, a blow to each foot, a blow to the head, a stamping that pressed down and continued in excruciating pain.
Jesus:
They numbered all My bones. They gave Me vinegar and gall to drink. They gave Me a cloth to wipe My blood-covered flesh. What did they give to Me? Love is giving, My dear ones. How many of you are wounded when you are not given things by your brothers you love?My members were in such pain, the pain shot up My arms. My legs were so weak I could scarce move them. I was filled with pain within them.
To all who watched, they saw a man, weakened and covered with blood and wounds. They did not see the pain inside that shot up My legs and arms, the nerves inside My body that sent signals of deep pain to My central nervous system. They did not see the nerves inside sending pain signals everywhere.
The final blow being to each hand and foot, the severing of My nerves by the blunt and rusted nails.
An arm extended. A final blow. I beheld a nail pounded into My hand and the pain shot up My arms, unbearable to a human mind.
Do you know of the pain within My body? Signals sending messages of deep pain everywhere. I knew all of these sufferings in the garden. So great were the sufferings to My mind, I sweat blood.
My flesh was covered with wounds. My arms were stretched from their sockets. My body was beaten and bleeding, every inch of My body covered with deep wounds. But, My loved ones, you miss the depth of My love. My wounds were so deep, but the final wound, the pounding of the nails in My hands and feet, a severing of the nerves, an ending of the deepest pain, to experience even deeper pain, beyond your human comprehension, it was done to the Almighty God, a Divine Person, I suffered the final blow to each member.
The pounding in the hands and feet, the crown to each member, and they numbered all My bones. My nerves a network of pain running throughout My entire body.
The pain within the body, the pain recorded in My loving head, the pain sent by a network of nerves in My body, now records the final blows, the nails in the hands and feet, the pain being recorded from every thorn that pierced My skull, every gash to My body, the pain, the pain, the pain
- a network of signals and pain, running through My body and the final hour, the pains recorded on the cross, arms outstretched - a surrendering to all pain. I surrendered to a body laden with pain. You focus on your little problems, your little aches and pains. You discuss them and show the world your pin pricks and sufferings. Do you want to know holiness and love? They gave Me vinegar mixed with gall. This was their offering. They gave Me a cross. They crowned My head with a crown of thorns.
This, My dear ones, is suffering, My beloved souls, I gave My life for and this is their return.
A severing of My nerves, the final blows to all the aches and pains recorded in My nervous system. This was one of the final blows
- the rusted nails pounded into My hands. You will feel little aches and pains in your hands and feet to remind you of this message. Your understanding of the immense pain within will deepen. What was visible to the eye on My battered body was nothing compared to the pains within. I gave My all. I gave My insides, My mind, My Heart, wounded for the love of men. All functions in the body were stopped. The final curtain, blood and water pouring out from My Heart, show that all functions of the body had ended.
R.
All signals that carried messages of immense pain had ended, the final act of surrender for God to die to this human body and surrender His flesh.Jesus:
And end, a beginning, the water and blood flowed from MyHeart, the beginning of My life in the Church, life flowing into your spirit.R.
Come give me life, abundant life. I thirst to be with Thee.Jesus:
My blood was spent. My human flesh and blood offered as the sacrifice, the sacrifice of Calvary is now made present at every Mass. An end, a beginning, and the grace and life flow through the sacraments in the Church. My life flows to you in the Mass. Mary, the Mediatrix of all grace, stands by the side of the altar and the grace flows from the Father, through My body offered up as a sacrifice in the Holy Spirit, given through the Mothership of Mary to you in the Church. You stand under the cross with My Mother and you receive the gift given, My Body, My Blood.R.
Man is reconciled with the Father through the Divine Person, Jesus Christ, and you receive His life poured out to you as Calvary is made present in the unbloody sacrifice of Jesus Christ.Do you feel the graces poured out to you at this sacrifice of the Son of God at every Mass? Do you feel the presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and Mary, all the angels and saints, and the souls in purgatory? Do you feel united as one at the sacrifice of Calvary sacramentally made present upon the altar through the priest? The priest who now puts on Christ and through Him the dispenser of this life given to man.
Jesus:
Oh, My beloved ones, love so dearly your priest. Give him such reverence. He is the chosen instrument of God and you treat him with such ordinariness. You are so blind and so dumb in your ways. And they numbered all My bones. Each nerve carrying a message of My love of mankind, each member in My Church carrying a special message, all united as one working in harmony according to the Father’s will, each carrying a message of love to one another. The body is many members, you are the messengers of My love. Christ is the head. The message does not flow as it should when some are cut off from the Head. They nailed My hands and feet and My nerves were severed by the nails, such pain, undescribable in words, the severing of My nerves from the body, the severing of many members from the body of Christ. My Body given for all on the cross, the network of nerves within carrying the messages of My love to all mankind. My body covered on the outside with blood and wounded, the pain recorded within.
Your Church, covered with blood on the outside, the slaughter of innocent babies, the homosexuality, the sins of the flesh, the members that have severed themselves from the source by their sins, but the pain is carried in the nerves inside. The blood of the Lamb shed for each and every soul, the real pain carried within. The life is weakened in your Church because the love of God is so weak in many members. The messages of love are not being transmitted as they should be. Your body shows the wounds, but your pain within is the root of the problems. The pain is from the messages of love that are not being transmitted.
Unless you seek to fill your priests and sisters with the fire of God’s love, fill their hearts with burning love for God, your Church will continue to show the marks of the blood shed without. I give to you these letters as a mighty medicine for this world, directed to make men’s hearts burn with love of God and love of one another. The rosaries are meditations and messages given from the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. These messages will make men’s hearts burn with fire for love of God. You have ignored the importance of these letters.
I send to you the mighty medicine to heal a hurting world. My priests and religious need these messages. The love of God will be transmitted to the Church from these messages when you circulate these letters.
The devil has blocked the minds of men involved in these messages because of their importance to the world and the Church.
I am speaking to you Fr. Carter to help to get these messages published and circulated as soon as possible. I give to you a mighty medicine for a sick world.
Read St. Thomas Aquinas about the medicine for the sick Church. You know what these messages have done for you. I am Jesus. I give to you the mighty medicine for a sick world, for a sick Church, rosaries and letters from the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
Your Church shows the wounds of bloodshed, abortion, homosexuality, sins of the flesh, murder of little children’s minds with sex education in Catholic schools and you hold back the gifts of God’s love I am giving to the Church and this world.
My arms were weak and wounded but the final blow as the nail put in My hand. It severed the nerves.
The final blow is the bloodshed in the Church, the slaughtering of children’s minds in Catholic schools. My children are pure and innocent. They are not being taught messages of God’s love, they are being taught messages of sick sex and coldness.
Men’s hearts have turned cold. They have been severed from the life of the body. The body is decaying from within. Only with the love of God enkindled in men’s hearts will this bloodshed stop.
I beg you to publish and circulate these messages in the Church. I am Jesus. I am giving you the mighty medicine for the world. Your body wears the marks of the bloodshed, only with messages of My on
-fire love will it stop.Mary leads you to Jesus. Never is she the end. The Father has a plan. Mary’s messages have led men and will lead men to Jesus. Satan has tried to stop all efforts to publish and circulate these messages. I am the Almighty God. The funds will come when you circulate and publish these messages and rosaries under the Shepherds of Christ Publishing. I am working with Fr. Carter and Rita as messenger to renew the Church and the world. Each messenger has a very vital role in the Father’s plan. The significance of these messages are being overlooked. You are not studying the messages as a whole and their content. There are five unpublished
Blue Books and more than four Rosary Books which I and My Mother have given to this world in the last 14 months. I have also given 15 songs of My love. I am begging you to see to the recording and publishing of this music. I beg you to listen. This is the mighty medicine for the Church and the world to draw men to the burning love of Jesus. Please harken to My call. I will send you the money. You must study and read these messages. This is a fulfillment of Fatima - these messages were given to bring priests to the burning love of Jesus. I am Jesus, your beloved Savior.
August 4, 2013 - After Mass
R. We must learn to turn our will
to God –
We need God's grace to do this –
The man sinning is doing his own
will he has not developed
the habit of always turning
to God's will –
In messages Jesus spoke of man prodding
and planning and doing his own will –
opposed to God –
In the busy, busy rosary we see
the man had no time to be
alone with God –
he almost thought he found
a spot and then realized he
had an appointment at
the dog's hair salon –
Which is where we can put God
who is to be first in our
life – if our busy life is
always according to our
agenda –
God wants to be one in us –
Seeking His will at every moment
of our lives –
We need grace even to not sin –
We need grace
God gives us the Morning Offering
to pray united to the Mass
for grace to choose the
will of God –
Our reasoning must be right reasoning
so we do not see with
greater distorted vision
(envy, condescending, prideful)
our beloved brother we
are supposed to work with
in love –
Man in his wounded human nature
sees God, others and himself
with distorted vision.
When a man's life is lived to never
change and force others to live
according to that –
his focus is not growth in the
spiritual life –
Jesus: He is rigid as one
clogged in a hole –
Your life here is to grow
spiritually – this takes
dying to the ways not like
Me and rising more and more
in My image and likeness –
Dying – Death
Rising – Resurrection
At every Mass – you eat My body,
you drink My blood –
A person using His life to form others
according to himself is
using his energy, the time given
here to lay in a stagnate pond
on a man born with a wounded
human nature.
I came, I died that you would
share in My life –
I give you baptism –
I give you such gifts –
Your knowing and loving capacity
is elevated
A man who focuses on himself and
establishing all he is and
knows is right with dysfunctional
ways is wanting all to
rest in him.
The hardest thing to do sometimes
is admit you have to change.
The devil works in this.
You were made for love, for relationships
working together –
When one failed relationship after
another occurred, a woman
having 5 husbands, still did
not want to change –
She was created by God to love and be loved,
but she would not change and no
relationship worked with her habits.
I call men to unity –
I call men to live in the Church,
a community in which
it is to be a reflection of
the Trinity –
The Trinity is: God is 3 Persons
in one God –
When a person fails to trust or
relate with others outside
their family – they can
exist in that system and see
it as the rule, the only
system there is –
I give men and women marriage
they are not to marry their
sisters and brothers or
relatives that are close.
I give men hidden rules –
Men are not to marry men –
Women are not to marry women –
children, parents, etc. –
The more killing of babies is
accepted, the more the elderly
can be done away with too,
the more homosexuality
and rules against the
natural law opposed –
It can be anything goes to a man
operating under satan and
the darkness grows deeper
and deeper as satan works
in reasoning opposed to
God's will – Perversion!
John the Baptist lost his head
telling of the sin.
The prophets have been
persecuted and martyred by
men who want their own
way.
I am the way, the truth and the life.
Since you have been raised up to be with Christ, you must look for the things that are above, where Christ is, sitting at God’s right hand. Let your thoughts be on things above, not on the things that are on the earth, because you have died, and now the life you have is hidden with Christ in God. But when Christ is revealed—and he is your life—you, too, will be revealed with him in glory.
That is why you must kill everything in you that is earthly: sexual vice, impurity, uncontrolled passion, evil desires and especially greed, which is the same thing as worshipping a false god;
and do not lie to each other. You have stripped off your old behaviour with your old self, and you have put on a new self which will progress towards true knowledge the more it is renewed in the image of its Creator; and in that image there is no room for distinction between Greek and Jew, between the circumcised and uncircumcised, or between barbarian and Scythian, slave and free. There is only Christ: he is everything and he is in everything.
Ecclesiastes 1: 2; 2: 21-23
Sheer futility, Qoheleth says. Sheer futility: everything is futile!
For here is one who has laboured wisely, skilfully and successfully and must leave what is his own to someone who has not toiled for it at all. This is futile too, and grossly unjust; for what does he gain for all the toil and strain that he has undergone under the sun—since his days are full of sorrow, his work is full of stress and even at night he has no peace of mind? This is futile too.
Psalm 90: 3-6, 12-14, 17
You bring human beings to the dust,
by saying, ‘Return, children of Adam.’
A thousand years are to you
like a yesterday which has passed,
like a watch of the night. You flood them with sleep
—in the morning they will be like growing grass:
in the morning it is blossoming and growing,
by evening it is withered and dry.Teach us to count up the days that are ours,
and we shall come to the heart of wisdom.
Come back, Yahweh! How long must we wait?
Take pity on your servants. Each morning fill us with your faithful love,
we shall sing and be happy all our days;May the sweetness of the Lord be upon us,
to confirm the work we have done!
Luke 12: 13-21
A man in the crowd said to him, ‘Master, tell my brother to give me a share of our inheritance.’ He said to him, ‘My friend, who appointed me your judge, or the arbitrator of your claims?’ Then he said to them, ‘Watch, and be on your guard against avarice of any kind, for life does not consist in possessions, even when someone has more than he needs.’
Then he told them a parable, ‘There was once a rich man who, having had a good harvest from his land, thought to himself, "What am I to do? I have not enough room to store my crops." Then he said, "This is what I will do: I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and store all my grain and my goods in them, and I will say to my soul: My soul, you have plenty of good things laid by for many years to come; take things easy, eat, drink, have a good time." But God said to him, "Fool! This very night the demand will be made for your soul; and this hoard of yours, whose will it be then?" So it is when someone stores up treasure for himself instead of becoming rich in the sight of God.’
18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
August 1, 2010
INTRODUCTION
– (Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21-23;Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11; Luke 12:13-21) One of the most well-known passages in the bible begins with the line: “For everything there is a season…a time for every matter under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die, and so on.…” That passage is from a book in the Old Testament that has two names: in Hebrew it is called Qoheleth; in Greek it is called Ecclesiastes. The author of the book is called Qoheleth, which simply means, “one who convenes an assembly.” About all we know about the author is that he was likely a Jewish teacher or preacher. Today is the only Sunday in the three-year cycle when we read from Qoheleth. Today’s short passage reminds us of the passing nature of all things, a theme we hear again in the gospel.HOMILY
– There was a barber who was moved by the Sunday homily to witness his faith in God with greater enthusiasm. So when his first customer came into the barber shop on Monday morning and asked for a shave, the barber invited him to take a seat in the barber chair and then asked to be excused for a moment. He went to a back room and prayed a quick prayer saying, “Lord, my first customer just came in and I want to witness my faith to him. Give me the wisdom to say the right words. Amen.” He came back with a bible in one hand and a straight razor in the other and asked his customer, “Are you ready to meet your maker?” Our readings today ask us this same question.A man who felt that he was being cheated out of his inheritance approached Jesus. Jesus knew his job was about something of much greater importance than a few gold or silver coins. Jesus came to announce that God is inviting us to be part of God’s kingdom, a kingdom that is not of this world, a kingdom that will be more wonderful than anything this world can give us. The man, and all those listening to Jesus, needed to be reminded about what is really important in life. He said to them: “a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Do you think this is a reminder just for the wealthy? It’s a reminder for everyone. Anyone might get caught in this trap of thinking that having more and more things is what makes life worthwhile. Certainly wealth keeps food on the table and a roof over our heads, and if we do not have enough to meet our own basic needs, life is miserable. That’s why Jesus constantly insists that we care for the poor and the needy, so they can have their basic needs met. Certain people were even invited to give away everything they had to the poor and then to follow Christ. We might think of some of the saints, especially St. Francis whom everyone admires, but few try to imitate. St. Francis, of course, was trying to imitate Jesus, who said, “foxes have lairs and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Not everyone is called to live like Francis or Jesus, but we can learn from them and follow their spirit. In this world we have to provide for our needs and the needs of our families. That’s why God gave us a brain and gave us strength to work. But we can’t forget that our greatest need is God. Apparently that’s what the man who had a great harvest in Jesus’ parable forgot. He thought security, independence and power were his for many more years, forgetting that our greatest security is in God. Jesus said the man was a fool, for he grew rich in a way that in the end really didn’t matter much. Jesus himself was on his way to Jerusalem and he knew what waited for him there, his own suffering and death, and he knew that growing rich in good works and in our love for God is what really matters,
We don’t like to be reminded how fragile our life is, that it can be taken from us anytime. We like the illusion of being in control. Jesus is really doing us a favor when he reminds us that our life in this world is only temporary, and eternity is forever. Jesus is doing us a favor reminding us of this because he’s keeping us in reality. The things of this world are only of secondary importance and we must use them as the way to him and not allow them to be central in our life. St. Paul, in today’s second reading, calls greed “idolatry” for greed makes wealth our primary goal in life and for wealth we set aside the goal for which we were created – which is God.
I thank you for coming today. Your being here is an indication that you are aware that God must be central in our lives. You’ve heard this story before, but it’s worth repeating and will make a good conclusion to my homily. An American tourist, traveling in Europe, visited a wise and famous rabbi who lived there. The American was surprised when he saw how simply the man lived – in a single room with a table and chair and a number of books. “Rabbi! Where is your furniture?” asked the tourist. “Well, where is yours?” the rabbi asked. The American tourist answered, “My furniture? I’m just passing through here.” The wise rabbi responded: “Although I’ve lived here my entire life, so am I!”

Guiding Light
- Reflect on the Word
Guiding Light homily series - Reflect on the Word - Cycle
B — The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and
reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal
concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a
sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this
day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We
believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as
priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and
Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our
congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand.

Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A — The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15 | ||

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C — In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15 |
Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B — At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15 |

Guiding Light - The Word Alive in Our Hearts. - Cycle A (partial) — Homilies by the Reverend Joe Robinson given at St. Boniface Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is a tremendous honor Fr.
