Prayer for Grace for our Country
Dear Father united to Jesus in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Sacrifice of Calvary sacramentally made present, celebrated around the world, in the Holy Spirit. We offer up all we do united to the Mass. We unite in one mind and one heart as members of the mystical body of Christ, with Christ our head in the pure and holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary, through the powerful intercession of Mary with all the angels and saints and souls in purgatory, and we beg for the saving grace, for our country, the United States. Please help us. We further pray for unity to always do the will of God in love. We spread the Blood of Jesus on the leaders and people of the United States and cast the devil into hell. We consecrate our country to the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart and all our dioceses, and beg for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. God help us. We pray for our families, the priests, the Church and the world. In the Name of Jesus please hear us, we pray. We pray for our new president as he takes office. We pray that we are united as one nation under God to work together in love as God wants.

From the Pre-Blue Book
October 5, 1992 - 3:30am
R. Dear Jesus, Give me Your hand to write this book for you. I am your servant. I want to be Your hand to this world. If you, Lord Jesus, would write a book, what would you say?
Jesus: My dear children,
Today I come to deliver a message to each of you. I want to tell you of each person's dignity, of their beauty and their self-worth. Each child is, oh, so uniquely precious to My Most Sacred Heart. Each child is full of the talents I have given to them. Each person is divinely created by God and given all these gifts to be happy and love one another.
The problem comes when you feel you will be left out. That you will be left by another who has trodden on you and will do it again. I see you all as My most precious children. I watch your every move and know all pain and anguish in your heart. My Heart aches, you have insecure feelings about yourself. I came to this earth I died for you. I felt cold, hungry, lonely on this earth. You need not worry that no one knows the pain and anguish in your heart. God created you with such special gifts and talents. It is important for you to raise above your wound and forgive those who hurt you.
You need only turn your will and your life over to Me and I will guide you in all your ways. I have all the Power. Many are not of My ways. The key to life is to recognize your faults, but still know you are this precious gift of My Father a gift to this world. This world is in need of your strength. Running yourself down, blaming others hurting them can cause you misery and pain. At this very moment, you are the precious creation of God!! You must operate with Me in your heart.
You need not run yourself down. I am with you every day guiding your ways, lest your foot stumble and you lose your way. You will not wander far from your path if every day you keep bringing your focus back to Me. If you dare let Me be at the helm, if you dare to really let Me run your life, I will do with you such wonders that you yourself would be amazed. But you will know with such ease when you did these things that you did not do them alone. You will know My power, moving the mountain, My power chipping at the stone, My power working on your hardest problem and you will be set free.
Oh yes, you will be set free and know a serenity that only comes from letting go and letting Me run your life. To you, My child, I have given all that is good. I made you My holy soldier, My warrior in a world of pain and hatred. You are the light that shines in the darkness, you are the coat to a cold child, you are the smile that warms a troubled and lonely heart. You are the comfort for everyone you meet, because My most precious Heart powers you, smiles through you, understands and loves through you.
Love your fellows for Me. There are so many troubled hearts that need to know My love. I can love through you if you let Me, I can be their friend through you if you let Me. I am He who comforts you and you are he who comforts them. My power is endless, it never runs out, there is not a power failure EVER. In your darkest hour, My light shines in the darkness and I say to you, "Oh blessed of My Father, look at yourself with awe, you are My creation, you are indeed so precious to Me, you are My light to this world, you are My hands and My feet and most of all My Heart."
Oh, you are My loving Heart, to those who are bowed down, to those who are lost in the darkness, you carry My smile and wear My armor in a world that is trying to tear one another down with hate and ugliness. There is gentleness, there is love, there is hope in you, if you open yourself up to Me. Be My knight to the world, wear My armor. I am your God and I will protect you from the darkness. Plug into My power, be not afraid, I go before you always and you can rest in My arms when you feel weary. You can put your head in My lap and weep, you will know, I am truly with you and you are My light to this world. I created you so special - to cast out fear in the darkness, to clothe the naked, to give hope to the oppressed, to be as I live in you and love through you and you are My smile and I touch My hurting ones through your love.
You are he who loves this world. You must stay plugged into My power-source This world is hungry for My love. It needs My love, I give to them through you. I am your God and I made you as a gift to the world. You are filled.
Focus on Me and your life will be abundant and whole, joy in suffering, freedom but you can take the knocks because you will know you do not go it alone, but with Me. I love you My precious child.

R. A man can rebel against God and His
call to us to love and to have the goal
of heaven.
Man chooses to obey God or to reject
God. God is order. God is Divine
justice.
God allows us to operate here below
for His glory. We belong to God –
the world belongs to God –
How can a person parade around
before the Divine God and rebel against Him.
Children may play the game of tag as
a child – where a person is in front and
the other to pass them has to try to
avoid him in front and pass them.
Can we play this game with God.
Can we act as if He does not know what
we are doing or see what is in our
hearts – rebelling against Him with
our free will and have happiness –
we were made by God and commanded to
know, love and serve Him. To help
spread His love to others by obeying
God and our neighbor.
God keeps the universe working –
God loves all of us and has mind
of us. God is a Supreme Being and
we are under God.
I cannot understand how a
person could constantly choose
rebellion and opposition to God - when
they are instructed in this their entire
life.
The more the Holy Spirit is in us –
dwells in our heart and soul – the
more God's truth is in us.
But it is an act of the will –
we have a free will – to desire, to
seek, to want God to penetrate
our soul. It is an act of our will
to obey the Commandments of God and live
by the Word and see ourselves as
under God – God over and we are under
and we give ourselves to God –
We surrender our will to His will –
We seek to listen to God, to spend
time with God to know His will
and to live by His will is an act
of our will.
It is an act of the will to desire
relationship with God, relationship with
others – It is an act of the will to put
God first in our lives.
I love You God and I thank You
for all You have given to me. I thank
You for this Movement – to try to help
me be all You want me to be –
Dear God I thank You for the universe
and the world and all the people in it.
I thank You for baptism and giving
me a sharing in Divine Life and elevating
my knowing and loving capacity. I
thank You God for coming and dwelling in
my graced, baptized soul.
Dear God life is in You – I thank You
for life –
Life is beautiful –
God is beautiful –
God is all good and all full of
light –
God is love –
To know God is to have love in our
hearts –
God really wants relationship with
us.
God is longing for our love –
But love does not force a person –
Love wants the other to give freely –
God gives us a free will – to give
freely –
We can choose to love God or to reject Him.
We can choose to give love to God and
our brothers and love ourselves
as beautifully made –
Or we can refuse to give anything
but hate to others – to see them
as enemies –
It takes God's grace to love as He
desires us to love and God gives
us a sharing in His loving activity – we
can love on a supernatural level –
when we are baptized.
We can ask God for this grace
and co-operate with this grace.
We have a free will –
God wants relationship with us –
God is love –
Do you remember the slavery of the
Hebrews at the time of Moses –
And Moses was to go to the Pharaoh and
plead "Let My People Go"
The people were slaves –
I know from this message May 13, 1993
Jesus said
"The devil's grip is paralyzing and
crippling"
A person has a free will to say yes to God –
or to keep saying no to God –
God commands us He is to be first
in our lives, but if a person
in pride keeps parading in
front of God, committing sin
after sin in front of Him and
denying they are sinning they
go deeper and deeper into darkness
and misery and the devil keeps tempting
them to sin and they can make satan
the Master to them and serve satan
through lewd conduct and malice
of intent.
What we keep practicing becomes
habits. Like pride, a person sees
themselves even above God –
above everyone and they can
act not like God is calling them to act –
but give into satan in jealousy,
envy, anger, slothfulness, lust
and gluttony.
Today's first reading
Colossians 2: 6-15
So then, as you received Jesus as Lord and Christ, now live your lives in him, be rooted in him and built up on him, held firm by the faith you have been taught, and overflowing with thanksgiving.
Make sure that no one captivates you with the empty lure of a ‘philosophy’ of the kind that human beings hand on, based on the principles of this world and not on Christ.
In him, in bodily form, lives divinity in all its fullness, and in him you too find your own fulfilment, in the one who is the head of every sovereignty and ruling force.
In him you have been circumcised, with a circumcision performed, not by human hand, but by the complete stripping of your natural self. This is circumcision according to Christ. You have been buried with him by your baptism; by which, too, you have been raised up with him through your belief in the power of God who raised him from the dead. You were dead, because you were sinners and uncircumcised in body: he has brought you to life with him, he has forgiven us every one of our sins.
He has wiped out the record of our debt to the Law, which stood against us; he has destroyed it by nailing it to the cross; and he has stripped the sovereignties and the ruling forces, and paraded them in public, behind him in his triumphal procession.
R. Jesus tells us in the Gospel we must
go away and pray to the heavenly
Father – he showed us He prayed –
He prayed before He picked the
Apostles.
We need that place inside where we
are so one with God. We need the interior
life rooted in the relationship we have
with Father, Son and Holy Spirit – the Christ-life –
Life in the Spirit – Life in Him –
Our strength lies in this –
Only in God will our souls find rest.
A person that gives into darkness –
refuses to obey God, lives in pride
and anger, jealousy, envy has a
darkness inside – If you don't
have that connection with God
inside it can be like a dark
hole in there –
So they can go out and cause
chaos and confusion, division,
crisis on the outside – addicted
to drama and addicted to excitement –
God wants to come and possess our souls
and to live and dwell in our hearts,
but we must turn away from sin and
if we sin tell God we are sorry –
promptly admit our wrong doing –
"Give and you shall receive"
A devious person of punishment
to his brothers is turning
his heart more and more to
darkness and misery.
If we want Christ in our hearts
we must die to sin – we cannot
hate God and hate others if we
want God in our hearts –
St. Paul talks about this in
tomorrow's first reading to the
Colossians 3: 1-11.
Since you have been raised up to be with Christ, you must look for the things that are above, where Christ is, sitting at God’s right hand. Let your thoughts be on things above, not on the things that are on the earth, because you have died, and now the life you have is hidden with Christ in God. But when Christ is revealed—and he is your life—you, too, will be revealed with him in glory.
That is why you must kill everything in you that is earthly: sexual vice, impurity, uncontrolled passion, evil desires and especially greed, which is the same thing as worshipping a false god; it is precisely these things which draw God's retribution upon those who resist. And these things made up your way of life when you were living among such people, but now you also must give up all these things: human anger, hot temper, malice, abusive language and dirty talk; and do not lie to each other. You have stripped off your old behaviour with your old self, and you have put on a new self which will progress towards true knowledge the more it is renewed in the image of its Creator; and in that image there is no room for distinction between Greek and Jew, between the circumcised and uncircumcised, or between barbarian and Scythian, slave and free. There is only Christ: he is everything and he is in everything.
R. Then in the Psalm we
remember God is the Creator
we are the creatures and we are to
praise God and love God –
forever and ever –
We are to focus on the Kingdom of God –
Live our lives helping to build
the Kingdom of God and
be witnesses for Christ who
lives IN - US –
Excerpt of The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. pp.60-61
136. THE FOURTH DAY
A MEDITATION ON TWO STANDARDS
The one of Christ, our supreme leader and lord,
the other of Lucifer, the deadly enemy of our
human naturePRAYER. The usual preparatory prayer.
window at a former Jesuit Seminary
137. FIRST PRELUDE. This is the history. Here it will be that Christ calls and wants all beneath His standard, and Lucifer, on the other hand, wants all under his.
138. SECOND PRELUDE. This is a mental representation of the place. It will be here to see a great plain, comprising the whole region about Jerusalem, where the sovereign Commander-in-Chief of all the good is Christ our Lord; and another plain about the region of Babylon, where the chief of the enemy is Lucifer.
139. THIRD PRELUDE. This is to ask for what I desire. Here it will be to ask for a knowledge of the deceits of the rebel chief and help to guard myself against them; and also to ask for a knowledge of the true life exemplified in the sovereign and true Commander, and the grace to imitate Him.
FIRST PART
THE STANDARD OF SATAN
140. FIRST POINT. Imagine you see the chief of all the enemy in the vast plain about Babylon, seated on a great throne of fire and smoke, his appearance inspiring horror and terror.
141. SECOND POINT. Consider how he summons innumerable demons, and scatters them, some to one city and some to another, throughout the whole world, so that no province, no place, no state of life, no individual is overlooked.
142. THIRD POINT. Consider the address he makes to them, how he goads them on to lay snares for men and bind them with chains. First they are to tempt them to covet riches (as Satan himself is accustomed to do in most cases) that they may the more easily attain the empty honors of this world, and then come to overweening pride.
The first step, then, will be riches, the second honor, the third pride. From these three steps the evil one leads to all other vices.
SECOND PART
THE STANDARD OF CHRIST
143. In a similar way, we are to picture to ourselves the sovereign and true Commander, Christ our Lord.
144. FIRST POINT. Consider Christ our Lord, standing in a lowly place in a great plain about the region of Jerusalem, His appearance beautiful and attractive.
145. SECOND POINT. Consider how the Lord of all the world chooses so many persons, apostles, disciples, etc., and sends them throughout the whole world to spread His sacred doctrine among all men, no matter what their state or condition.
146. THIRD POINT. . . .

4 Days before Fr. Carter's Death
Matthew 5: 3-12
How blessed are the poor in spirit:
the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
Blessed are the gentle:
they shall have the earth as inheritance.
Blessed are those who mourn:
they shall be comforted.
Blessed are those
who hunger and thirst for uprightness:
they shall have their fill.
Blessed are the merciful:
they shall have mercy shown them.
Blessed are the pure in heart:
they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers:
they shall be recognised
as children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted
in the cause of uprightness:
the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and
speak all kinds of calumny against you falsely on my account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this
is how they persecuted the prophets before you.
R. We are to live in the Present
Moment – Live in that deep union
with God –
Song: Live This Day
From a Lenten Homily, March 24, 2000
Live in the Moment
Today’s Gospel in its story certainly points ahead to Jesus in His Passion and death. And as we read passages such as this during the Lenten season, we are reminded once again that the Church in her Liturgy of the Word gives us an opportunity to undergo a purification, an ever deepening cleansing of ourselves so that we may be a more fit instrument for receiving the great graces which are to be given to us at the time of the Resurrection memorial on Easter. And so all in all, Lent is a time of purification to prepare us for ever-greater gifts of the Lord. It’s a time of self-discipline, a time to renew our efforts to be self-disciplined in the service of the Lord. Self-discipline is an aspect of purification. And I suggest that one of the most difficult acts of self-discipline in the spiritual journey is to concentrate on the present moment. We have a very strong tendency to disregard the importance of the present moment by focusing in a wrong way on the past or in a wrong way on the future. There are proper occasions for thinking of the past and the future. For example, we have to learn from the past and we have to prepare for the future, but our great emphasis has to be upon the present. There is a Latin axiom which says, age quod agis, age quod agis, which means: do what you are doing, concentrate on the present. And of course we are familiar with that term in the history of spirituality: the sacrament of the present moment. And so the discipline of Lent certainly encourages us to include in a deeper self-discipline a greater determination to get as much as we can out of the present moment. People with a terminal illness have an opportunity as they prepare for death for increased prayer, contrition, love of God. However, some are taken very, very quickly. But for those who have the opportunity of knowing with some certainty the time of their death, I’m sure as they look back on their lives, they are saddened by the many times they did not use time and opportunities for the service of the Lord properly, and are overjoyed at those times in which they did use the present opportunity properly. A great means we have of living in the present properly is a greater focus upon our Lord. For if I have that awareness of the fact I am united with Jesus here and now, why should I be concerned so much about the future or the past? Yes, a great help in living in the present and deriving all the good we can from it for ourselves and others is an ever greater focus upon Jesus, because the more I focus upon Jesus and the more I live with Him in the present moment, the more I am satisfied with the present moment. And so let us in our Lenten activity resolve to grow in that self-discipline - which is very difficult at times - to really live in the presence with the fullness of our being as much as is possible, with the help of God’s grace. Now is the day of salvation. Now is the day of salvation.
end of Father Carter's homily
R. We live with happiness doing
what God's will is for us right now –
We live in the moment we are
living in right now. We live the
moment to the full in the arms
of God – We live to love Him, to
serve Him and to know Him more
and more – Reality is as God is –
The guy who keeps busy can be
like a monkey jumping from branch
to branch. The man does not have
that connection to God inside –
is not truthful with himself –
denying sin and filled with guilt –
so he goes outside himself – keeping
busy – and in his darkness he can
be divided, create chaos,
addicted to excitement because
he is turning his back to love
of God and love of others rooted
in his heart –
A person rooted inside can sit in
peace and be with God –
R. We can have a hurricane outside,
but there is peace inside –
We're not like a monkey jumping
from limb to limb on the

Song: I Am Your Sacred Heart
R. It is presence – knowing God's
presence in you.
Song: Your Presence Pervades my Soul –
Prayer for Union with Jesus
Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.
I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.
I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.
When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.
-God's Blue Book, January 17, 1994
R. Prayer is the lifting of my mind
and heart to God –
Sing: Glory Be
"Let everything that Breathes praise the Lord"
Psalm 150: 1-6
Alleluia!
Praise God in his holy place,
praise him in the heavenly vault of his power,
praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for all his greatness.Praise him with fanfare of trumpet,
praise him with harp and lyre,
praise him with tambourines and dancing,
praise him with strings and pipes,
praise him with the clamour of cymbals,
praise him with triumphant cymbals,
Let everything that breathes praise Yahweh.Alleluia!
Colossians 3: 12-17
As the chosen of God, then, the holy people whom he loves, you are to be clothed in heartfelt compassion, in generosity and humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with one another; forgive each other if one of you has a complaint against another. The Lord has forgiven you; now you must do the same. Over all these clothes, put on love, the perfect bond. And may the peace of Christ reign in your hearts, because it is for this that you were called together in one body. Always be thankful.
Let the Word of Christ, in all its richness, find a home with you. Teach each other, and advise each other, in all wisdom. With gratitude in your hearts sing psalms and hymns and inspired songs to God; and whatever you say or do, let it be in the name of the Lord Jesus, in thanksgiving to God the Father through him.
1 Timothy 1: 1-2, 12-17
Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus appointed by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength. By calling me into his service he has judged me trustworthy, even though I used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor and contemptuous. Mercy, however, was shown me, because while I lacked faith I acted in ignorance; but the grace of our Lord filled me with faith and with the love that is in Christ Jesus. Here is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. I myself am the greatest of them; and if mercy has been shown to me, it is because Jesus Christ meant to make me the leading example of his inexhaustible patience for all the other people who were later to trust in him for eternal life. To the eternal King, the undying, invisible and only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
R. When we pray we have that deep
connection in our hearts
with God. God is our Master –
God is our best friend –
God loves us –
We trust in God –
We can always go to Him in
sunny weather or in storms –
God created us and He loves us.
God is with us in moments of need.
God is the one who gives us peace,
even in struggles, hardships.
God calls us to love and serve
Him in our lives –
We in the Shepherds of Christ are to spread the
message of praying united to the Mass all day
and praying for the priests, the Church and
the world.
God hears our prayers – we need
to have faith and believe this –
Divisions tear things apart – Unity
of hearts in serving God builds
the mission God calls us to –
Jesus gives us Himself in the Eucharist –
Jesus gives us His Body and Blood –
so He gives us Himself so intimately –
Psalm 40: 7-8, 9-10, 17
then I said, ‘Here I am, I am coming.’
In the scroll of the book it is written of me,
my delight is to do your will;
your law, my God,
is deep in my heart.I proclaimed the saving justice of Yahweh
in the great assembly.
See, I will not hold my tongue,
as you well know.I have not kept your saving justice locked in the depths of my heart,
but have spoken of your constancy and saving help.
I have made no secret of your faithful and steadfast love,
in the great assembly.Poor and needy as I am,
the Lord has me in mind.
You, my helper, my Saviour,
my God, do not delay.
R. To be sincere in one's prayers –
one must be rooted in God in
their hearts. To be likened to Jesus –
we must be one with God in
our hearts –
We can't just talk about dying
to sin – we have to want to die to
sin and admit the truth about our
wrong doing and live the Christ-life –
our hearts rooted in Christ!
We do what we do for God –
Our lives are lived to serve God –
That is the purpose for our actions –
We are so grateful to God for all
He has given us and we do what we
do for love of Him –
Don't rush through heartless
prayers to God! We are to be witnesses –
listen to the instruction God gives
us through the teachers He has
sent – We don't know it all –
God has called us disciples –
learners – we are learning God's ways.
We have dignity – God created us
and loves us so much –
The devil goes about as a roaring
lion looking for someone to devour –
We don't want the devil to tempt
us and we shouldn't give in if he does.
We have a free will!
If someone does sin they should
promptly admit it –
There must be balance in all
things doing God's will!
Jesus: I call for you to come before
the tabernacle and spend
time with Me.
R. We are to live united as a body in Christ.
We are the people of God's flock.
Sing Song: We are God's People
R. We spend time with God –
being silent – letting Him
sort out what we need
to hold onto in our lives
as we live God's will –

Guiding Light homily series — Reflect on the Word — Cycle B The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $15 |
Guiding Light homily series — Steadfast to the Son — Cycle A The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15 |
Guiding Light — Focusing on the Word — Cycle B At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15 |
Guiding Light — Feed My Soul — Cycle C In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15 |

Priestly Newsletter — 2000 #1 — CD. — Christ is Our Strength — Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. It is so beautiful. "This brief passage contains one of the greatest lessons of the spiritual life. As we progress along our spiritual journey, we become increasingly aware of how weak we are in our—selves, but how strong we are in Christ. To experience our weakness involves suffering. The degree and kind of suffering can vary. The suffering can include the experience of the classical dark night of the spirit as described by St. John of the Cross. One of the main purposes of the dark night is to make a person keenly aware of his or her helplessness without God." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10 |
